Blisco Dash fell race 2024 - English and British Championship short and steep race
Blisco Dash fell race 2024 - English and British Championship race. AS category - steep and short - 4.3 miles long, 2000 ft elevation, goes to Pike of Blisco (705 m) in Langdale valley and back again. Organised by Ambleside Fell running club. It's normally a Wednesday night fell race but this year it was A Saturday race part of English and British Championship.

    I did have the immense privilege to meet Jos on the top of Helvellyn back in the 1970s. I had struggled up (walking) from Thirlmere when this guy shot past me. I caught him up while he was eating a rock cake on the summit. Apparently he had not started his run at the foot of the mountain, but had run all the way from Braithwaite, many miles away. He said that he would reach Thirlmere in 22 minutes, but if he did not he would turn around and run back up!!!!! What a man!

    Thank you for this video. An absolute hero of mine, one of the best ever but always modest and kind. Think the Lakeland fell running community gave some comfort on this day to his family as to how well he was regarded.

      I couldn't capture on the phone all the extent of how many fell runners there were. BBC Cumbria was there with their equipment but they didn't even go up a bit to film. I think they filmed all the runners running past the church.

      ​@@bensisko2443please, can you be more specific. Not quite sure what you mean. There are cut off points, so only people who know they can make those cut off times take part. One of the fell running sport's principles is not to make profit out of it, so all the marshalls and organisers are volunteers. It wouldn't be fair on them to expect them to be up in the mountains marshalling all day if there are no cut offs on big races.
