Avoid Mental Health Relapse

    I was diagnosed with all of the same things and I am currently eyeing the Lamictal pill on my desk that I have been hesitating to take for the past 3 months... I've been really nervous about trying it too as medications really just scare me. I'm going to give it a try though, I think I've researched this med enough. I am also on clonazepam 0.5mg as needed for panic disorder & agoraphobia but I think I may need to take it more often and will be talking to my psych about that.

It’s incredibly frustrating especially for how much money this can cost. It’s hard to trust people already. This just adds fuel to the fire. It’s so hard to find the right therapist. One said go slow with everything. Pet your cat. You and I both know spending time doing anything is impossible. I pet my cat all the time. Also I know how doctor's can be. The last one was chewing and snapping her gum telling me I don't have breast cancer. The pap smear one said she has no reason to check me since I had an abortion . I had one at 17. My mother the father and everyone in between told me too. I am 61 now. Old enough to be your mother but still struggling with bipolar. I am retired. At times the last few weeks I’ve had giggly stoned and high sensations like I’d had a joint - going from 150 to 175 (9 days), then 200 (17 days). Over three and a half weeks it’s all gone to shit! I’d fee Calm and relaxed and slow breathing - literally zero anxiety. But I’ve had horrible dizziness and my head has moments of “lolling” around. I drove my car and had a car accident! I had gone up from 150mg to then 175mg and then 200mg. I have actually “had mood swings” where I never had them before, and I feel I’ve been misdiagnosed - hence why for me, I’m having so much trouble I think - OR - the mood swings are revealing bipolar and will settle ? I’m just so confused. They are actually causing me mood swings daily. I’ll feel ok and not dizzy, then I’ll feel not dizzy but low. I’ve had pressure behind my eyes like they are bulging out of my head! I’ve been spaced out, can’t focus or even do a simple task. I’ve had to take a week off from work. So last Friday (5 days ago), I dropped back to 175mg and then after dosing 75mg at night i had giddy giggly highs like I was stoned and had dropped Valium. For the last three weeks it’s been nothing unpredictable at higher doses for me. Be very very careful. I can’t reach my psych as he’s on a weeks break. I’m of course not in a good mood at the moment - for most of today I wasn’t dizzy and felt ok. Then for a few hours in the afternoon it came back. Took evening meds, it went away; and the bad mood appeared. Pay attention to your moods!!!!! If I have to come off of this I’m going back to hospital, it’s what I’m considering. Most have said to me this, “I feel a bit crap for a few days going up a dose, then feels ok”. This HAS NOT BEEN THE CASE AT ALL!! I feel very alone and frightened by all this. I’m incredibly logical when it comes to medications and it’s not a psychological cause.

    Benzos can cause agoraphobia eventually. It happened to me. I am 10 months off my clonozopam after a 2 1/2 year taper. Please be careful tapering off your benzo...

    • @zoecain123

      interesting that you say it is the cause. cause is a very strong word. for me personally my agoraphobia is caused by childhood sexual abuse and trauma, where I don’t feel safe in the outside world. When I was 18 I was assaulted and started having panic attacks and have been on benzos ever since (10 years). I’m so sorry you had that experience with the klonopin 😢 ... the medication for me has been a life saver for me over the years.

      @@zoecain123 Benzobuddies.org is a great resource to learn about benzos. I was on alprazolam and then switched to clonozopam for a total of 15 years. My Rx kept increasing dose till I was taking 4mg a day as needed. I'm still healing from the injury that benzos cause to your nervous system. The FDA finally put out a Black Box Warning late last year on benzos but I haven't read it. I'm sorry that you've been through so much. I got put on benzos bc I was having major anxiety. I got diagnosed with agoraphobia years later after a career in sales talking directly to the public all day for T- mobile/ Family Mobile at various Walmarts.

    • @zoecain123
      @zoecain123 Před 3 lety

      @@greencardinal98 i have heard similar stories like yours on benzos but there are also really positive stories as well, where it has been the only medication that has worked for ppl. I make sure to stay below 1mg a day of my clonozapan and have been able to be consistent with that dosage these last 10 years. Have never gone over that daily dosage. Most days I take between .5 and .75. High anxiety days are different. But the benzo plus CBD and magnesium, as well as therapy, breathing techniques and group therapy helps a lot. My lamictal, i’m on 50mg a day still. The dr. has said to go to 75mg but overall it’s my decision so I decide what feels best. I do like lamictal a lot as a medication. No other mood stabilizer or SSRI has helped me. I also have the hydroxizine that I mention in this video. Think I’m finally going to make the leap and take it at night to help even more with night time anxiety and help with taking less klonopin. I want the klonopin to stay effective, that is my goal.

    • @greencardinal98
      @greencardinal98 Před 3 lety

      @@zoecain123 I used a whole milk solution to taper off my last 1mg of clonozopam and that took 51 weeks. I stopped taking my benzo cold turkey at first bc I didn't know better. I had reached tolerance once again and I wasn't working at the time so I thought I'd stop taking it so that it would work again when I needed it most like for a job interview. But within days I developed grand delusions that lasted for months before realizing what was going on. The benzo was a wonder drug for me until it wasn't. I'm working part time at Walmart's now getting daily exposure. The anxiety from benzo withdrawal fades over time and i've realized that i'm going to be free from debilitating anxiety. For now I live at home with my mom. I moved home in 2009 when I was 29 years old. I was a pharmaceutical rep for GSK when I started my benzo.

    Hi Zoe, I can relate to the feeling about not wanting to take medications because you don't want to put your control in the hands of a medication. I had a nurse practitioner tell me something that helped me with this thought. They said not to think of medications as a crutch but more of a tool to get us where we want to be. For example, if we want to travel somewhere that is 15 miles away, we have options to get there. We could walk, but that would take a really long time and probably make us tired when we get there, or we could take a car and we would get there in a fraction of the time. Medications are like the car, we don't have to use them but they sure make the journey a hell of a lot easier. Thank you for posting! I just started back on Lamictal this week along with Effexor 75mg and Seroquel 50mg. From when I remember taking Lamictal in the past, as the Lamictal went up I didnt have to take Seroquel anymore.

That is an interesting way to look at medications. I don’t think I’ve been experiencing the benefits of the lamictal any longer and that scares me. I don’t want to be on a high dosage of a medication but it is something to decide and think about. I also take Klonopin, which is a controversial anxiety medication and I am dependent on it and have been for the last 10 years of my life. It is a rough thing to deal with. I’m so proud of you! I think it was a good call on not doing it for a second time, it’s best to take it slow and only push so far.

      @@elizabethcastillo8819 this one I wanted to do on my own. Listened to music really loud and just enjoyed the ride. Not sure what ima film next, still thinking about it. If you continue working on yourself, going to therapy and working on your confidence, you will get there. Just remember, your anxiety and fear is much less than how much your father misses and loves you.

    I got sick of the Bullcrap with the Mental Health System, I am now being treated with meds by my Primary Care Physician . For me personally.....thats the way to go

      You’re lucky that you were able to get treated for mental health by meds prescribed by your primary care, like you prefer. Most drs won’t do that, mine won’t. Are you seeing a therapist as well?
