1971 Dodge Challenger Convertible Restoration. Changing Manual to Powertop Convertible Top #mopar
Changing Manual to Powertop Convertible Top for a 1971 Dodge Challenger Convertible #automobilevlogger
moparrestorationparts.com/
Today I removed the spring loaded manual top cylinders and installed an electric pump, new hydraulic cylinders, and new hydraulic lines. I added transmission hydraulic fluid as recommended, bled out the air, and tested the top in both directions and it worked really well. I also installed the power top switch and harness to complete the power top conversion.

How available is sheet metal for the 70 Plymouth B body? It's a bad ass car and I'm sure there's a market for the metal.
Sheet metal is available thru AMD and GoodMark. All parts except a trunk lid and fenders. But I had no problem finding them trunk lids are tougher and expensive.
Going to destroy a super rare survivor.😢
Don’t! Leave it alone.
Three good lookin' gents right there!
I watched your video mainly because your GTX looks nice original with rallye wheels love original mopars looks awesome

Absolute Beauty
horrible useless video learn how to take videos or give up
Thank you man
I am trying to figure how you got the back panel out the way without enough cutting it.
Cleaning the harnesses will give them an almost new look, unless they are sun faded. Cleaning the old dirt and grease from them makes for easy taping and restoration. As always when you use chemicals read and heed any safety instructions. I wanted to make it clear that you do not need to soak painted sections of the harness for long periods of time, usually less than 5 minutes will do to remove paint. It is better to do it a couple of times only spraying the painted areas. The Bleach White product will help to remove dirt and grime and it will help to restore the bright color of the exposed wires. I welcome any questions or comments.
If you have questions please feel free to contact me, and remember safety first is always the key. John
cant see because your hand blocked it and the camera was to low. please re duo
You say your going to take a closer look several times. Don’t think that is possible
Note -- the square head carriage-style bolts that attach the tracks to the upper seat frames for a '69 Charger need to be removed from the tracks before you can disassemble the tracks. They are swaged in place, but you can carefully drive them out with a punch. Replacements bolts to be used after tracks are disassembled are 5/8-18 carriage bolts. A small tack weld can hold them in place after the track is repaired and reassembled, before installing back onto the frame.
7 part series that never shows how to actually set them up on the bottom of the seat ......Frustrating
U said that it's an RV graveyard. Are any if them being parted out?? I need parts for my 76 apollo
Great work! 😀👍
This series is def helpful. It’s a pretty obscure project that’s hard to find on CZcams. Much appreciated. Quick question - is the type/brand of paint overly important? Wasn’t sure bc the grease/friction.
Facts man that’s so true
Very good, well done! Talk to T. she needs you.
Very good, well done! Talk to T. she needs you.
Quick question....you said that you didn't pre drill for your plug welds did you just drill well in car ? Would love to see how you did this if it's a time saver just about to do a 69 superbee thanks
yes, I just did them as I went along, I did us a 1/8 bit first to start a pilot hole and to make sure that I was staying true on the frame...I guess I could have chalk marked it as well. but anyway it all worked out well..... let me know if you have anymore questions...thanks
Easier if U cut the pan in half to install weld it up when the is set in.Thats what I did {69 Coronet 440}
Beautiful work JOHN if I desire to redo my coronet can I trailer it to you? It would be well worth it
You restoration brings back memories of My coronet restoration my car needed the same thing trunk floor, tail panel, both full quaters, inner and outer wheel house but I notice that your project is supported correct on the cars suspension my project had many issues that require a complete do over to get it right all because of stupid mistakes. The jack stands were not placed correct now I know. Great job so far
Can u use rust bulletin metal that not rusted.. I ask because not all Of my rusty.
Would like to know what else had to be done to slide that pan up in there, doesnt look like it would make the turn to go down without hitting the panel below back glass
Where is part 2 thru 15..?
Just go to my CZcams channel and the rest are posted there. Let me know if it doesn't work I can send you the links Thanks for watching and your comments John
Whats the best way to press out the studs to move to different spot in the track
dude you need to back your camera up
Yea you got that right, I was using a pretty lousy camera, just bought a new Sony 4K Video camera should do the trick, I tried a GoPro Hero 6 and it had terrible audio so let's see how I do on the next video installment. Thanks for your constructive review ............GTXJohnC
Do you have to remove the carriage bolt on one end to get the slider out?
I hope you can do a video on the final install of the seat tracks including the connecting of release spring/wire and showing how that works.
I certainly will, I will be restoring a set of 69 R/T bucket seats in the very near future, I will make sure to document the process along with the track installation. Thanks for watching
John, thank you for posting the seat track restoration videos. I am restoring the seat tracks on my 1969 Coronet R/T soon and now, thanks to you, I know how to disassemble the tracks.
Thanks for your comments emails and phone conversation. I really appreciate you reaching out to me for help. Please keep me updated on your progress. I would also love to see pictures of the car when your done.
