Escape the Dark Castle Collectors Box and the dilemma it has caused me
This video and the first part-er, were great ideas for solo'ing this gem. Subscribed, bro. Just started toying around with it tonight. Really liking the stories you can make with all the random tables. I'm in the same boat in you, I desperately need more random western tables. The only other western themed game I own is dead lands from Swade. Might dig through there and see what gems I can dig up. Also, I feel you on the writing, especially with this setting. Showed the girlfriend my soloing day to day notes from this game and she said it reads like a blood meridian book, man vs nature, bleak. lol I'm sad because my PC only has 6 hp, don't know how far his odyssey will last.
Thanks for the sub and your thoughts. I still have not found a lot of old west tables and games. They are out there just not treated the same as fantasy or sci fi. Your girlfriend nailed the setting, it is man vs nature and should be bleak. It is the frontier and so unknown. These Morg Borg style games are not meant to last long and it is better just to enjoy the character while you have them. Have a great day.
Have a great time at GenCon! And I can't wait to see you dive into the Moria book!
@@AdventuresWithDice me too. I might take it with me on the trip. Something to read when I’m not driving.
Glad you mentioned the error with the cards. I also had an order that input in and all my tuck box cards were doubled up. Might be a glitch in their system.
@@Doubledb519 yeah it has to be a glitch. I will find homes for them.
i have a question to anyone that can answer pls, i have the Strider mode solo rules for the One ring printed, but i'm questioning if this solo rules on the Moria expansion are the same as strider mode, complement, or a new solo mode, and if they are different , what should we use? thank you.
Here is what is written in the book. Solo play within Moria is complementary to Strider Mode, a supplement for The One Ring that offers rules and tools for solo play, including expanded events for overland travel. You can utilise Strider Modes in addition to these guidelines if your adventures take you beyond the confines of Moria. However, Strider Mode is not required to play a solo campaign in Moria. If you prefer to explore Moria as a lone hero without the aid of a Band of Allies, you can use Strider Mode along side some of the resources herein to help depict your lone exploration of these ancient halls. So the solo rules are something that can be used with Strider Mode or stand alone. I was hoping that we would see Strider Mode printed in a book at some point. With these new solo rules you are running with allies. It also has some great tables for creating your adventure. I have not read through all the rules yet but I like what I see.
@@solitaryrpgthank you for the info ! I would also love to have some officially printed strider mode. 😃
@@Daemonarch10 happy to help. One day they might print them in one of their releases. They have some other releases they didn’t print so maybe they have a plan for it all.
I would love to purchase the extra cards from you. I love shadowdark!

Always interesting to see the new stuff you found 🙂

Where'd you get those playing cards?! So neat!
Great life advice as well. Thanks for sharing!
@@Signalhunter205 thank you for watching and leaving a comment. It means a lot to me.
love that you are talking about resistance and the desire to be perfect getting in the way of starting something new. And the warden's manual definitely needs more praise for how well written it is
@@MegaChiliMac it sure does need more praise let’s hope others see the video and we can get this more attention. That is for commenting it means a lot to me.
Wish I picked up that humblewood sample. Fateforge should have come with pre-generated characters. Then it would have brought in more people. Bad dice at the end... it's always the pretty ones!
@@Zr0din it is always the pretty ones that let me down. Pre-gens always help with sample rules and settings. Sorry you missed out on the Humblewood sample it is nice.
Just bought it myself and agree with you on all points. I have such a hard time physically writing and my spelling is atrocious (spell check fixed that word for me). It does feel good to not worry about it and just start journaling when playing. It becomes second nature after a while. My spelling still sucks but the fact of being organized trumps it.
That is why I feel the advise is so good in the Warden's Manual. Just get at it and start writing. Glad you found the video helpful and don't worry about it being perfect. It just needs to work for you.
Some of the best game advice I've heard in a long while.
@@artistpoet5253 Yes just get started and stop striving for perfection.
It's a really great manual; I need to reread it again now that I have the hard copy.
@@KyleMaxwell grab a cheap notebook and create your adventure.
Thank you for making this video. I’ve been eyeing the warden’s manual and looking for someone to do the video you just made. Very insightful and motivating.
I feel it is full of good advise and worth having in my collection. I might print out a copy so I can make more notes as I read it.
Thanks for the nice overview, I hadn’t heard of this but EF is releasing a new slipcase version next week and I wanted some kind of overview! I think I’ll pick it up!
I am surprised that this game is not getting more attention. It is a great game design and awesome art. I have not seen the new slip cover box set however I am sure it is amazing.
Fantastic review! I'm glad Wizard Van is your jam! I had a helluva good time writing it.
I really like the Motorhead reference in the rules. For that we salute you. Great fun playing but I spent most of my time banging my head to the music and just having a great time. I hope you are getting a lot of positive feedback form the community with the hard work you put into this game. I truly had a blast playing it. I am going to run it again with either Pink Floyd or Rush have not decided.
This looks dope! LOUDER THAN EVERYBODY ELSE!
If its too loud you are too old and I just could not get any louder with my system. It was great fun just to really dive back in to music that I love and has meant so much to me in my life. I grew up with Motorhead and so many other great bands.
First off, Dispel dice are balance dice, don't defame especial when you don't know the company.
@@Kineteken Do you really feel I was serious? I was joking based on my rolls and that is a common excuse people use when they roll bad. Sorry you took offense to my humor and felt I was defaming the company was not my intention.
What are the odds? everything you talk about in regards to music, i agree 100%. You are my long lost brother! Long Live Lemmy!!
We are all brother of Rock and share a bound that can't be broken. Music is such a powerful art and I don't like all types of music but I don't put that music down. That is why I have always looked up to Lemmy. He just liked music and didn't care what others thought. Rise the horns and keep the music alive, Rock On Brother.
@@solitaryrpg Amen!
Never heard of this game but it sounds like extremely my jam. And Motörhead forever!! \m/
I am so glad I could share this game with you. When we lost Lemmy we lost a piece of Rock and Roll. Keep their music alive and just enjoy the journey.
Wow! I'm a huge fan of The Moody Blues, whose music has always sounded magical to me. I am definitely gonna get this game and pull all my lps and cds out for this. :)
@@suburbohemian that would be an excellent band. Magic user might be a good character path with their music.
Sounds pretty cool. I wonder what kind of game Ween's Chocolate and Cheese would inspire? ;)
@@TheDungeonDive I will have to check them out. Based on their name it could be delicious
Ahahahaha that’s gonna be an interesting world😂
Have you tried a bit of heat to remove the stickers? You have to be careful to not damage the boxes, but it has worked great for me. I use a heat gun, but a hair dryer would probably do the trick, too.
I have not tried heat. I do have a heat gun I will try it on some magazines. Thank you for the suggestion.
@@solitaryrpg it'll likely destroy that thin paper. I've only used it on cardboard and glass. Gotta gently heat it, though. Maybe Goo Gone is better after all, lol
@@ike_d5402 I might try a hair dryer on paper
I gotta pick up that Names book! Whitehack is REALLY fun, love it for my one on one sessions especially. I actually gave away my "official" copy of Maze Rats to a friend who's starting to learn GMing since I have my homeprinted copy - as you said, the tables are great!
I think you will like the names book and it is more than just names. It is a good resource to have in the collection. For now Whitehack is going to sit on the shelf until I return from GenCon but I am sure I will find more cool stuff at GenCon so like so many other great games, I will get to it one day, lol. Just so many awesome games out right now even if I didn't work I still could not play them all.
@@solitaryrpg I get that for sure, haha! :D
this was great! thank you!
Glad you liked it. Thank you for commenting.
I'm new at all this. Are these Free resources/RPGs available online or as PDF downloads? How do you get them if you missed or local store did not participate? Thanks
Some of them will be put out as free PDF’s on the publishers websites or Drive Thru RPG. They are normally quick start rules used to promote games.
Free RPG day sounds amazing! And those Story Engine cards are super cool! 😃
Yes it was fun to see so many games being played. I didn’t get to hang out long had lunch plans with a friend. The Story Engine Cards are cool and easy to use.
They put out good stuff.
Jay is very creative with his products. They are just fun to use and give me so much material to work with.
These are really nice.
I think Little Monk has done an amazing job getting some great product out to keep this game alive.
l've thought something similar, but with used book covers. But would you create a big, foldable gaming board like original HQ had?
Warhammer Quest does not have a set board and changes every game. If you had a cool dungeon design that you wanted to play for other games that might work.
Is there a link to where I can purchase this box? I've tired searching google but could not find any information on where to order one of these. Thanks
You can send Little Monk and email at littllemonkwhq@gmail.com or if you are on Facebook join his Warhammer Quest fan page.
@@solitaryrpg thank you!! I'm thinking about ordering box and tiles set. The cards look nice too, I'm thinking about order a set of those as well
@@TSRCardMasterFan very cool reach out to Little Monk and he will help you out. If anything is out of stock he will put you on the list for the next reprint.
@@solitaryrpg Cool beans thanks for the info :D
I love what you're doing and of course it's gorgeous but there is no way someone like me can afford this. I can only wish.
Yes it can get costly. If you look at my playlist I have some videos on making the boards. I made all the core game stuff to just play the game.
The setting book and adventures look really cool
Yes the setting book with the maps are just amazing.
How do we get this?
You can reach him by email, littlemonkwhq@gmail.com
Definitely need to save up for the tiles. Those are beautiful!
They are great and are worth the cost.
It's quite amazing what Little Monk is doing. Hats off to anyone who is doing anything just for the love of it. Fantastic!
I agree so much passion for the game
Thanks so much for this wonderful and detailed review. We really appreciate it! So glad you got to pick this up at GenCon, and the Exalted Funeral version should be available soon!
See a lot of people complain on their brand but I like them for what I’m trying to do. My kids are young and want to play and their cheap
For the price you can’t go wormy especially if you are learning g how to paint. They had some scale issues with their first go but they are getting better.
Your self-made book and that you learned how to do that is very cool and inspiring.
It was one of my early attempts at book binding. I have learned a lot more since that video and have improved. It is a lot of fun making books and relaxing.
Not sure if u noticed but your missing a finger on the right hand
Am I missing a finger or do you have too many. Yes I lost my finger back in 72.
@@solitaryrpg Haha! 🤣 Was it a fan belt on a truck? That's how my dad lost his
@@shanesmith7672 No not that exciting. I was two and put my finger in the sprocket of a bicycle and I learned never to do that again.
Hey, Mike! Great video, as always. Your passion is clearly shining through the engagement you have to the wonderful world of role-playing games. It feels youthful-in a way. I wanted to share some thoughts on and regarding running a city as opposed to the more traditional wilderness and/or dungeon. You start by bringing up a point I think is very important and with the help of another wonderful supplement-Into the Cess and Citadel-I have the words to describe the point: a city is reactive. Meaning it's entirely possible to stay within a city remaining incognito; silently observing its pulse and thrum. Great to see more resources being created in the city/urban setting, as I haven't found many that engage me. This one seems very good and I believe one of its strongest qualities is its conciseness-where the aforementioned resource can be rather daunting. Also; I really appreciate the format you did this in, that you showed it in use, sharing your thoughts along the way. As previously stated, you always provide quality, long-form content and I must admit you have gained a special place in my heart. Especially when you explicitly stated you do not care about the arbitrary numbers going up, but rather community engagement. Thank you very much for all that you choose to share online-even though you want to stay purely analogue. Great content, already looking forward for the next! ―Even
Even Thank you for all the kind words and thoughts. I also have Cess the Citadel and I felt the same way. There is something about the work Shield Dice Studio puts out that I really relate with. It is easy to use and still has enough to get your imagination going. Thank you for the feedback on the format. It was a lot of work but I felt it was worth it. I will be doing more of these style videos for tools like this to really show them in action. Have a great weekend Mike
Don't hate me, but I like the red walls.. _runs out_
LOL well I am keeping the red paint on the back wall now just for you.
U got it from kickstarter?
Love the assassin cloak. Will try that the next chance I get. Any specific reason you use the paint handles upside down? Just wondering. New sub. Loving your content and presentation.
Thanks for the sub. No real reason it has just become a thing that started on my painting stream. It has become my trade mark thing over the years.
Happy (late) b-day, sir! I love Battle Systems stuff. Curious about Castaway and Dungeon Saga too. The game room starting to look real good!
Thank You Martin. yes I am starting for see the value in Battle Systems terrain. Liking in the desert storing terrain outside can be an issue. This stuff is cardboard so I can just put it in my garage and not worry about it. The game room is coming together nicely can't wait till it is finished so I can get some games going.
@@solitaryrpg I bought some Battle Systems terrain a while ago to play Fallout Wasteland Warfare and my only regret is not buying more clips! Next order!
