People can change, if they want to. I have a very close friend that when I first met him had very openly anti lgbt views. He comes from a conservative religious background and had little to no contact with any lgbt people. We weren't friends at the time but he mentioned something lgbt negative online in a conversation and got jumped on by loads of people. I Jumped in to defend him. "I do not agree with his opinions at all, this affects me personally but please don't attack him guys, he is entitled to his views and opinions even if we don't agree with them, please let it drop" That was the moment that he saw for the first time that lgbt people are not just raving loonatics, it flicked a switch that got him thinking. Eventually he ended up in a friend group. A group that currently has 6 trans fem members including me one gay guy, 2 lesbians and a bi person. As well as a few cis and straight people including him. Over time he got to see what lgbt people are really like, what trans people are really like, that we are just people, just trying to live our lives, we really aren't all that different and absolutely not the insane hurtful people that he maybe thought we were. He has since become one of my closest friends and a genuinly supportive person, one of the most supportive people you could ever ask for. Our little group would not be the same without him and I am so glad to have him in my life.

Im not trans but im part of the lgbt+ community. I find acceptance from anyone to be amazing but i especially find it moreso from the older generation. There really is no excuse for prejudice.

What lovely grand parents need more grandparents and even parents like these my kids know i will love them no matter what sexual orientation they choose or gender there still my children. really does make me angry when people have so much hate and homophonic words towards others

I think this proves that the older generation get a heck of a lot of stick for being prejudice / homophobic etc when many are not. In fact, I’ve only found a lot of the older generation to be incredibly open minded. My father just turned 79, he now has a friend that is transgender, he also has friends that are gay. When I asked him what he thought about it, he said he didn’t care, why would it? He hopes they’re happy. He loves and accepts them for who they are. I’m nearly 38 & it made me teary eyed hearing my Dad be so open minded. Perhaps it was my own judgement that thought he was so old fashioned, & it even taught me something. For as long as I have breath in my body, I will never understand the pure hatred transgender people receive. Ever. It has absolutely no impact on others lives whatsoever, they dream up reasons to make it a problem. As someone who has been in a ‘minority’ for reasons I won’t go into here for most of their lives, I completely empathise with how hard all of your journeys are. I wish you so much love and luck, all of you. X

Great grand parents: they accept the situation as it is and they don't try to make it the way it 'should' be. And they love their grandchild regardless, beautiful! I am all for 'live and let live', but (there's always a but after beginning a sentence like this, sorry 🙂) I still find the idea/concept/fact/situation of being transgender hard to understand. What would be a good starting point to educate myself?

I respect that he’s ( obviously not a juvenile / v young adult), has got wonderfully supportive grandparents but I think it’s each case to be judged case by case on its own merits. He comes across as settled and balanced ( ✅) but does not have a Functioning penis or can impregnate a woman and still has xx chromosomes . What ever the outside presentation , he is still a biological woman . Trans is not the issue , it’s the demand that trans be something other than it is that caused the issues .
