We ride the train from Hill City, SD to Keystone, SD and back on a chilly rainy July 4th, 2023. Despite the weather it was a pleasant ride through the black hills of South Dakaota.

Episode 2 of my layout redesign. In this episode we review the track plan I drew up in SCARM. We take a printout of it down to the layout to show how the layout is changing. We wrap up this episode by running the UP 3893 Challenger with a few passenger cars in tow.

In this episode I share some of the track ideas I have, including showing a double cross over from Ross Custom Switches I'd like to have or at least find a way to achieve functionally. I also show the structures I currently have and I take us online to look at some I'd like to add.

UP 3893 pulling 17 scale passenger/baggage cars!

One of a few test runs today. I had the UP 3893 pulling Polar Express, Orient Express, Chicago & Northwestern, Norfolk & Southern and Union Pacific passenger/baggage cars. The layout has been dormant for a couple of years. I’m going to reconfigure to try to solve some electrical problems and create some more storage in the basement.

you see this is what sucks with the newer fast track for o scale the props for the original o scale tracks are more easy to find in a way but they really arent a thing for the new stuff
Gorgeous layout with stunning scenery and economically bustling cityscape. Love the numerous natural looking water features! Truly a triumph of the high rail and narrow gauge arts. The believability of a remote Northwoods community, dependent on railroads for connection to the wider world is exquisite!

My favorite memory of the Illinois Central is watching the “Green Diamond” passenger train run east from St. Louis through Madison County, Illinois. We usually saw this train pass from our vantage point at Peter’s’ Station.

I can’t tell you how many times I have visited Bruce and I overlooked that detail. Of course there are always stalks near the edges that are shorter than the rest.
