- I don't use Fastrack anymore but I know many of you do. Like many of you I find a need to have some sections of my layout have the ability to be powered off from time to time. I modified this block where each half of the block is insulated from each other. Many have done this before but what I did that was unique was I wired in both a switch and an LED so that it was easy to power it on and off and be able to tell from anywhere its status.
This is a re-edit of my first ever CZcams video. The original was actually in two separate videos. I re-issued it because many of you use Lionel's Fastrack and want the ability to turn sections of your layout on and off at will. This is how I did it, I hope it's helpful to some of you.
Can you post a parts list for the toggle switch and the LED?
I came back around to this. Have another question. I'm trying to do something very similar. Conventional from 82 and a newer lion chief. Both are generals. Want to do something like this on a side turnout with remote command switches. 1) do I need two of these blocks one on each end of the side loop just before the switch goes back into the main? 2) is there a way to eliminate the pole switch and turn power on an off with an IR remote?
Curious why you chose not to use fastrack anymore.. but hoping you could help. May be better by email but I have questions about power and wiring up bus lines and feeders, etc.. I'm not a wiring genius but looks like you know better with the connections in the underside. I am putting up a ceiling and wall shelf layout around my pub in the house. Approx 14x16.. With my back, I'm trying to avoid being on a ladder as much as I can and hoping not to have to solder without losing signal quality.. any chance we can chat by email, phone, etc? Would appreciate the help. Jim
What kind of toggle switch do you use? Is it just a simple on and off?
FutureRail Productions simple on/off from radio shack. Any should work as long as it can handle the amp output of your power supply.
Thanks! I use a Lionel Powerhouse Brick for my power supplies as my layout is command control, but I would love an unpowered siding that would go to a workbench so I'm not breaking any of my building and scenery on the main table.
@@TheKennethMarshall Output capacity of the power supply is not a factor in sizing the switch. The thing that matters is how much current does the blocked section (load) draw.
