@@mariannemarlow I loved every minute of it too. It was such a grrat experience!
where did you park to get to trail start? There's only community parking, but it's not available to public..
Yes, they don’t want you to park in the parking just if you use the facilities over there. You can park on the street, just make sure you be mindful of the neighborhood if you arrive early morning.
@@HungaroExplorer got it! thank you for the reply! Hope will see stairs before they removed 🙏
I'm considering getting either the Utra Flow or the Hoka Challenger 7. I do prefer a medium stack height of about 30-34mm in the heel and 26-28 mm in the midsole. I just tried the Ultra FLow on in a shop and it feels comfortable for sure. I tend to run on countryside backlanes here in the UK so they are tarmac'd but strewn with mud, dirt, gravel and cow shit!! I would like to explore more trail running in the Quantock hills as well. At the moment I am leaning more towards the Ultra FLow because of the price. Does anyone have experience of running in both shoes and could give some feedback please?
I have a Challenger 6 but I only use it for walking around, not running. I prefer the Ultra Flow for runs because it fits me better than the Hoka which is not a bad shoe either. The price is really good for the Ultra Flow too and for now it feels pretty durable.

Would you take this shoe over the Tomir 2.0?
Well, that is a tough question. I have and love both. They are two very different shoes. The Tomir 2.0 has the best grip, built like a tank and can handle every terrain. The Prodigio is more comfortable in the long run and has a more dialed in fit for my foot. Let’s put it this way, I would choose the Tomir for more technical, muddy but shorter races and I would go with the Prodigio on longer, less technical races.
I would say the Prodigio is more a dry conditions, fire road, maybe somewhat technical trail running shoe. It's a way tighter fit too. Also, look at the tread difference on these two shoes. The Tomir 2.0 is wider in the toe box and the Tomir's materials are definitely more durable. The lugs are more aggressive than the Prodigio. I have them both and the Tomir excels in wet, very rocky, rooty, rough, above treeline mountain running. I use my Prodigio on shorter, dry, less high alpine environments and recovery runs. Two different shoes in my honest opinion.
Thanks for the video! 🙏 I love La Sportiva shoes, I have been using them for almost 10 years. I have had many pairs of Ultra Raptor I and II, Akasha I and II, Akyra, and more recently Jackal I and II, including all the Gore-Tex versions available. They are incredibly durable, well protected, well structured, and stable shoes. Sure the Ultra Raptor and Akyra are heavier but considering the high degree of protection they offer, they are not even that heavy. I love the Akasha and the Jackal too which are lighter and a bit less durable but more responsive. With the Prodigio they seem to have gone a bit too far, at least for my personal preferences. I guess it depends on what one is looking for: for those who want very light and dynamic shoes, they need to trade off protection and durability.
I totally agree with you with everything you said! That’s why I said in the beginning of the video that the Prodigio is different to the rest of the La Sportiva shoes. It lost the durability and protection for what these shoes are famous for in favor to be lighter, faster (maybe) and more responsive. But I think the Prodigio still has its place and opens up a new style of La Sportivas.
@@HungaroExplorer thanks. Do you think it could work as a door-to-trail shoe going over longer sections of tarmac roads?
Yes, definitely! It can handle tarmac very well even on some road sections I found it comfortable.
@@HungaroExplorer thank you again! ❤
Great video! Lived on island from 2008-2012 and put a lot of miles under my feet. Cool to see more people getting up into that part of the island. Most people never see it let alone know how gnarly it is. Gotta give a shoutout to Kaleo Lancaster with Island Trails blog. Not sure if it’s still active but back when I was there he was pushing the limits.
Thank you for the comment! Yes, before I moved to the island over 10 years ago, I was reading Kaleo’s blog plus the extremhiking blog which gave me a lot of good info and push to get out to explore.
What is the first song that you used, also great video !!
I’m not exactly sure. I use Artlist for my music and I always search to find the right music, the right vibe for my videos. I never remember the name or the song title, sorry.
@@HungaroExplorer That's fine. Also I really liked your vid of hiking up Mauna Loa, that is the one hike in Hawaii that I want to do the most.
@PureMiko Mauan Loa was a great adventure! I think now the trail is closed from Red Hill cabin, but still open from Ainapo cabin.
So, I have only experience from the Akasha and Akasha II, which I love. Why would I consider the Prodigios over the Akasha? They are more nimble and responsive? But maybe less cushioning? Would you use them for 100K for instance?
That’s a great question Richard. The Prodigio is a much lighter shoe with better cushioning and better comfort for the long ride than the Akasha 2. Nimble and responsive too. But the Akasha 2 is more stable, more durable and better for rockier, more technical terrain. These two shoes are very different I think. I would definitely run 100k race in the Prodigio. What I heard from different sources that the Prodigio is designed to target ultra runners who run Western States type of races. Basically less technical ultras so I think that’s why they made this shoe lighter with less protection and super comfy. If you love your Akasha’s you don’t have to change, but the Prodigio worrh a try, believe me.
@@HungaroExplorer thank you!😊
Good lord!🤪
😄
Amen
I have one and just can say, this ultra flow Salomon shoes are very comfortable, secure as fit well the feet and very ligth to walking and running. Last but not least, the price is low compared with others.
I think the price is very good for what you get. I use it now for traveling because of the comfort and it is easy to take a run with it anywhere you are.
Let’s do it again
Always a fun one!
Hey, are they supposed to smell like a barrell of chemicals straight from the box?
Haha, yes they do have a pretty strong smell. I am wondering if the smell is coming from the Vibram soles or the upper…usually the Gore-Tex has a smell
Prodigio Update after my Sky Race : The race was 18 miles with 7300 feet of elevation gain running through 4 mountain peaks. The terrain was steep, some parts rocky, some annoying steep grassy parts and some ski slopes too. The Prodigio was a good choice. I loved the comfort throughout the whole race. It kept my foot very happy and the grip was working well on most surfaces, I only slipped a couple times on some wet, mossy rocks. I ran throgh some streams where my feet got wet but in 10 minutes I was dry thanks to the mesh knit, quick drying upper. My foot was stable in the shoe and I only had to retie my shoe laces one time, before the big downhill at the end. This race was a good test. The only negative is that now I see even more wear and tear on the shoe, but nothing too significant yet. I think the lugs will wear out early on this shoe, but time will tell. All in all whatever I said in the review is still the same, comfortable, grippy trail runner with some durability problems.
@hungaroexplorer923 Great review straight off the trail/race! Thank you very much for this as I'm considering getting these. Glad you had a good race 😀
@Ripper218 Thanks! Yes, I had a blast. My legs are pretty sore from all the steep descents and ascents but Sky Races are just another level. I am glad I choose the right shoe too!
Great review thank you Nandor. Be good if you do another of them after your sky race. I hope you do well and more so enjoy yourself in it.
Thank You! The race went pretty well, but my legs are wrecked from all the steep downhills at the end of the race :D. The shoe was a good choice.

Yes, orange is my favorite too!
Very good review. Thank you!
Thank You for your feedback!
@@HungaroExplorer how would you compare these with the Hoka Speedgoat for wet and slippery trails?
That’s a good question. Believe it or not, I never used Speedgoat before. For me it is just “too much of a shoe”, too bulky. They have Vibram soles just like the Tomir with a different pattern. They are two very different shoes, but can’t comment much on the Speedgoat since I only tried them in a store :)
@@HungaroExploreryes, the Speedgoats are bulkier. Other brands seem to have improved their treads a lot, so there are more good alternatives. Thank you for your reply.
Which country is that your running in, Asia somewhere?.
No, I live in Hawaii. That is where I test most of the shoes I review.
Are these quick drying?
Not as quick drying than some other trail shoes. They have a lot of protection around the upper which make the shoe a bit less “quick drying”.
Thank you for your review. I just bought Tomir 2.0 (1 size up) I’m very happy the way up-hill but the way down-hill It hurts my toes so bad😢 even I wear trail socks. Any suggestions please let me know 🙏🏽
There are couple reasons why it can hurt your toes on the downhill. If the shoe is too small, probably not in your case. If the shoe doesn’t have a secure fit and your foot moves in the shoe. If you have a size bigger it might be too big so your foot moves in the shoe. I use my regular number and it fits nicely. Not sure what else to say.
@@HungaroExplorer Thank you 🙏🏽☺️🥰

I have a pair of Wings Flyte 2 GTX which are light great to walk, run and hike fast but they are (44) too short and feel small on the fingers. do you have a model to suggest? and which size u think? thank you
That is a hard question…I have custom insoles made for running and I don’t have to change sizes because of them. You can try the 44 2/3, the 45 1/3 might be way too big. I would order but make sure you can return it if the size doesn’t work

With orthopedics it is hard to estimate your shoe size, you should get. I have special insoles for high arches for runing but they fit in my shoe with no problem. If you buy more than a size biggger than your actual size, even with orthopedics can be big. I would go half size bigger maybe so the 44 2/3, but you can’t be sure. Make sure you can return the shoe before you buy it just in case
Is this the mens version? it looks like its fitted for women
Yes, thisnis men’s version. The women is a bit different.
Worst shoes ever! Tomir 2.0 was broken after 25 minutes on trail. Nnormal did not offer any help. If you care about the environment and quality of the product- choose another brand!
Oh wow, that is hard to believe! Wondering if that was a bad shoe in the batch or what’s happened…i didn’t hear that from anyone else. What exactly happened?
Interested to hear your story after such a strong claim. I have the Tomir 2.0 and it is built like a tank! Must be a production error.
Yes, that was my thought…but we don’t know the full story yet..
Hi! It was very helpful. I am planning to go next year in April. What brand of purifier tablets did you use? Thank you!
Thank you! I didn’t use purifier tablets, I don’t really like them. You can use an UV filter, but I prefer the Greyl filters. They come with a bottle and the filter do not freeze inside.
@@HungaroExplorer thank you very much for the advice, My concern is that I live in Florida, and never been in high altitude. I heard that drinking water helps a lot. Is it easy to find bottle water there? I rather to buy there than use the tablets or other methods. Thanks a lot!!

People seem to be cleaning the BeFree in dirty water, but isn't that potentially contaminating the clean side? It actually seems easier to backflush the Sawyer than to clean the BeFree in clean water
The BeFree filter shouldn’t be cleaned in dirty water! That will contaminate the filter. The backflush of Sawyer has to be done with clean water too. The Sawyer last longer but has a slower flow.
Looking forward to watching you climb all 100 peaks! This video gives me so much encouragement to explore

Just bought a pair - already used x2 kjerag over 1000kms on each shoe.......great shoes
I don’t think I ever ran 1000km in one pair of shoe but I am happy to hear that you did. The Tomir is definitely a rugged, long lasting shoe, just like the Kjerag.
What are your thoughts on sizing? True to size or should we size down 1/2 or up? Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Found them on sale for $136. Not sure if they will fit my feet but figured that was too good a deal to pass up.
That’s a good price! Hopefully it will fit you.
Would you wear these for a 100miler?
I know some people who did, but I don’t think I would. With the Akasha 2s or the Prodigios yes, but maybe not with the Bushidos.
