Polychromos for me is the best choice regarding price and pigmentation, but I suggest to choose singular pencils than getting a set. Same for Luminance and Lightfast, get a few to compare. I didn’t try any American or Japanese pencils though…

Cool, yeah I've heard how Americans pronounce "van Gogh". I am not American, English is not my first language. I speak 6 languages and I don't care for the accent or the little mistakes in pronunciation. Correcting people is not something we should do especially when they don't ask for it, most of the time it discourages them to continue speaking the foreign language. Anyways.. it was Maimeri Venezia, student line of Italian watercolors that is now discontinued. But I suggest you to get the Maimeri Blu if interested in this Italian brand.

MARIЯAM sorry I wasn’t trying to upset you. And it wasn’t about the language, more about art brands and artist names. People I know have never heard the right way so they’re always shrugging when they say things, and saying “I don’t know how to pronounce it“. you know it’s really funny about corrections. A lot of people complain that nobody ever corrects them or tells them anything. And then other people get totally triggered and feel like they have to defend themselves. 🤷 so yeah, sorry you took offense.

There is no "right" American english pronunciation of the name van Gogh, it's just a consequence of not being able to make the right sounds. The dutch pronunciation is the only right one, and people who speak a different language can make of it whatever they like.

In Ireland people generally seem to call him Van Goff .

I think the first time I have seen Denise from "in liquid color" experimenting with honey and glycerin. You might watch her video before mixing, at this point I don't remember what solution was better :)

I do coloring just for hobby,but I’m really bad, I like some pencils and I buy them, I like to have an entire set. I have the Markart pencils,same with Nyoni. They are nice and soft,but very dusty/a lot of crumbling,I don’t like that it annoys me. But I have Prismacolors and Polychromos, they are both very good sets. Unfortunately the quality of the Prisma is not as good as it was. I have a few Luminance, I really like them,but the price is crazy for those. I tried the Pablo and I don’t like those very much. There are 2 other budget sets,Schpirerr Farben,they are oil based but not too hard,do you know them? And the Brutfuner square, they are very soft,although they are not wax,but act like wax,and again very dusty. I liked very much the painting you made when you reviewed the Nyoni, that tree with the the round frame,mostly red,very interesting, I thought it was like an Indian artwork,or Eastern, very nice. @@judithf9297 I like Italy, especially the mountains in Trentino-Alto Adige where I live. Still I often miss Finland, how peaceful it is there, the forests and the lakes, the Finnish way of living, maybe I miss my old me and the feelings I had whilst living there.. who knows. Apropo, eu sunt din Moldova. Nu-mi amintesc foarte bine limba română, dar pot totuși să citesc și să înțeleg. Am fost la Iași și în diferite locuri din Transilvania. Moldova are multe lucruri în comun cu România ;) Am studiat design grafic la Sankt Petersburg. Orașul este frumos și cu adevărat grandios. A fost o plăcere să trăiesc într-un loc unde există atât de multe muzee, iar arhitectura în sine este artă. I left right after finishing the studies because I wanted to live in a democratic European country and not what Russia was becoming. As for the drawing and painting, I came back to it after years of avoiding art and now I need it to save my mental health. Colored pencils are the best for forgetting intrusive thoughts, you just color in and think of that particular moment. I like watercolors too because of the unexpected mixes and also for the granulation. Do you use watercolors in your projects? They are also good for initial color placement or background before you go with colored pencils. I have 2 sets of chinese pencils, few luminance and Derwent lightfast and I am not sure of getting more yet because of how expensive they are. And I have a bunch of polychromos. I like bold colors so I choose softer pencils even if they crumble. I've never heard of Schpirerr Farben, sounds like a German name but I doubt it is. On Italian Amazon a set of 96 costs 137 euro that's a lot... I am not planning now on buying another set, but if I could I would go for square Brutfuners. I mixed my Nyoni and OBOS together and put aside all the duplicates, this way I got a huge range of colors. I sorted the colors and now I have them grouped in glass jars on my desk always ready for sketching or drawing. When they were in the box I almost never used them. And as for the dogs, yes I have two fluffy creatures: an italian Spinone named Bianca and a Bergamasco sheepdog Era. Do you like dogs? Do you have a pet?

Thank you Jill! I am proud of myself for not buying new art supplies in 2022 yet. And probably I can resist for much longer especially with all what is happening in the world in mind. I still have some interesting supplies to review from 2021 and a new gouache set that was a gift. But yeah, I won’t do art hauls and will try to promote minimalism and appreciation of what we already have. Have a nice day!

I bought Daniel Smith and Schmincke colors second hand poured in half pans. I picked the colors I was curious about but was not sure I need a whole pan or even a tube. I think it’s a great way also for the seller to not let the paints forgotten on a shelf.

Thank you Marc! Do you like their Turquoise green on pg50 or Phthalo turquoise? Is it the only problematic one that runs away? Or is it just the only Sennelier in your palette? I didn’t take the half pans I filled up out on a plein air yet, but the original half pans after being rewet during painting outside were all dry when I was packing up after a session. Maybe you should get that Turquoise in a pan, they have different formulas.
