Why does carton cover tires? What is the reason?
It's a good thing I'm starting with experimental walls. 😂 I have a bunch a semi truck tires but with the rims still on.
Yeah, no, I’d definitely buy a cheap jackhammer and fabricate a packing head for it. That’s not a gym membership, that’s slavery.
Whenever I see dirt being hammered into tires I think, "There has got to be a better way."
If you need to have specific instructions on how to hit dirt with a hammer, building ANYTHING is gonna be over your head. Just try not to drown in the rain.
Why do you move them 1.5” away from the line? Also, in which direction? Away from the inside of the house?
Felt discarded and was let down by adults who should have been more supportive even if hockey may not have been a part of his future. Exit process needs some work…
Wouldn't running water in the tire after you fill it with dirt do the same. Just wandering?
That's what I wonder too. If we build during monsoon season that'll take care of it careful to let it dry out as wego
DO NOT DO THIS, IT IS A RECENT DISCOVERY. THE STEEL USED IN TIRES., ESPECIALLY FROM OVERSEAS IS THE LOWEST "GRADE" OF STEEL (RECYCLED) RADIOACTIVE STEEL . THE STEEL USED IS RADIOACTIVE TO THE POINT IT WOULD JUST FLUTTER ON A U.S. GIGER METER (OVERSEAS ARE MORE SENSATIVE AND "TICK"). BY "USE" OF TIRES, THEY GET MORE RADIOACTIVE. THE "TYPE" OF RADIATION, IN THE STEEL, IN TIRES, IS THE "WORSE" KIND. IT IS WHY THEY USE IT IN TIRES. THESE WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE RECYCLED. I LOVE EARTHSHIPS. I AM LETTING YOU KNOW TO SAVE THEM. CHECK YOUR HOME IF YOU HAVE ONE, AND DO NOT REUSE TIRES.
There has to be a more efficient way of making rammed earth. Compare saving 900 tires to the hundreds of millions of tires out there. Its out dated hippie thinking.
You can take a razor knife and cut one sidewall out and just fill it also.
What happens when the cardboard decomposes? Doesnt that leave gaps and compromise structure?
If you build where there is sand there would be no pounding necessary.
As opposed to ramming earth after laying tyre down could an excess central colomn of dirt atop and let gravity do rest.
INTERDIT AU MOINS DE 18 ans :)
COOL la vie , Flo :)
I'm wondering how stable this is going to be and how easy it'll be to push those tires over
"You don't need a gym membership to build an earthship.." luv it :-)
Weird. Was reading this comment right when he said it. 😄
Great workout.
Where is this???
Hello Florent Conti. I'm the Scottie Econerds Davidosn, I'm the person pounding the tire in this video. Anyone want to find me on facebook can find me at "Scottie Econerds Davidson" I just found this video you made of me doing this demonstration. I would love to get my hands on the raw of this so I can add it to my educational folder for future builds I work on.
Hey Scott! Long time! Happy to hear from ya. Send me an email at mavieenvan (a) gmail (dot) com !
Far too much labor for an old man like me. Considering alternatives to dirt filled tires, I happened to notice at work that we produce bales of empty polyethylene super sacks that measure roughly 3' x 3' x 5 feet. These could be stacked and secured to form a perimeter wall just as these tires do.
The idea of the packed earth is "thermal mass" if you do not have the mass to absorb warmth from the sun, then the concept of the thermal mass wall will be nul and void. Are you talking about filling those sacks with dirt?
Isn't he cute, tho! :)
Why thank you *blush*
It’s pretty funny watching a hippy do manual labor.
bonjour jolie montage 👍
Hey great vid! Any tips for getting lots of cardboard?
I always go dumpster diving for cardboard boxes behind our local liquor store. I use the cardboard as mulch in my Organic garden!
Small Pneumatic hammer.
waste of time. All you're doing is fighting against yourself with how much the pneumatic hammer moves. causes tires to be moved out of place, inconsistently packed, and the impact on your own joints from running a pneumatic hammer would we WAY worse than swinging a hammer manually.
Let’s see cardboard under it, so how is the compacted dirt going down?
Only for single people or single couples without kids??? One bedroom...NO privacy....... Are there Tiny Homes with at least 2 bedrooms?
You can make a second one and park it nearby.
haha sick. looks like a good way
In other words that's why your back feels like shit every night
Honestly my back never really gets tired while pounding tires. Ab's and shoulders do all the work.
Thanks mate... Did not know how to fill a tire
You need to change the title to how to fill a tire with dirt. 😂
God, bless his soul
Hello sir, a question How could we make lets say a triple story house with tyres? We have a plan to make a full house with these and need advice
Not really something that you'd want to try. Earthships are typically one floor buildings. If you tried to do 3 stories, You're berm would have to still make it to the top of your roof. thats like... a 30 foot hill. Best bet is 2 stories. Main floor and a basement but even then its tough.
Question:?:. Where do you get all those tires from? Are they donated? Are they free? Are they harvested from a junkyard? Where do you get the tires from. Also if sand is all that's available to you Can you build a earth ship home out of that ?
Typically from tire shops. They usually have to pay to have tires hauled away. So when you go asking about tires for an earthship. Most tire places want to make sure you're not reselling is all. Other than that, they give tires for free if you pick them up. NO do NOT pound tires with sand, Sand does not condense. You want earth or clay, No top soil, no sand, no garden soil. EARTH is your best bet.
Fuck you for incomplete video and too much trash talk
I’m literally wearing that same shirt while watching this video!
Loved the video! Gonna have to call level abuse tho, levels are generally considered precision tools however that one is no longer.I think you have inspired me, might blind a small wildlife observation blind with my kids.
Um?mmm how to pound dirt......
There has got to be an easy way to do this shit. I would get wore out after like 5 swings. This is the only thing from stopping me from starting a project like this.
Sounds like you need to get back into shape then. Building your own earthship gets you in shape. To answer your question about an "easier way" no. not really... using a pneumatic tamper or hammer would mean all you're doing is fighting against yourself with how much the pneumatic hammer moves. causes tires to be moved out of place, inconsistently packed, and the impact on your own joints from running a pneumatic hammer would we WAY worse than swinging a hammer manually.
Is there a website or how do you buy one of these?
"How to build an earthship" 1. Sludge hammer 2. Cardboard 3. Tires ...ok I fkn got this.
