Affinity Kicking Adobe While They're Down - Get Affinity Photo and Designer 50% Off
So Adobe stepped in it earlier this week with a license update that has made many of their customers less than happy. Many customers that are looking for alternatives. Well, remember when Unity screwed up with the run-time fee and their competitors all took turns dunking on them? Well... now it's Adobe's turn. Serif, the makers of Affinity Designer and Photo, probably the two most viable Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator alternatives, have just announced a 50% off flash sale!

Unity 6 Preview Released - The Final Before the Run-Time Fee!
They are making a smart "business decision" I dropped Adobe way back with the subscription no purchase option debacle. Who didn't see what they would become.
i've been using affinity software for possibly over a decade now, not sure but it's been a looooooong time. some things i've wished they'd add but overall im a very happy user.
No, the solution is their software rewritten to be locally installable without a cloud connection and without a time-limited subscription. Ownership, they used to do it, now they need to do it again to restore their customer's trust.
never used adobe always used alternatives and im glad i did
Just a word of caution with Affinity-- not their products... they're great. Serif (the company that makes Affinity) was just purchased by Canva. Canva has a less-than-stellar reputation in the UI design community. So be wary of the new Serif/Canva combo eventually going down the Adobe path. You may want to also learn GIMP while learning Affinity. Edit: Presently, I strongly recommend Affinity products. Emphasis on _presently_ .
Just want to note, I was very excited about Affinity designer, as it seemed like it met all my needs - for me it was insanely unstable on Windows, Mac and also on iPad (which is a separate purchase) - the amount of lag and crashes felt impossible to work with. I thought it might be my configuration, but I don’t understand why it has issues on all platforms
I wonder if Adobe thinks it can become Big Brother's MEME police!
"every serious company would drop us immediately" ... yeh, the gaslighting catch cry I've heard for the last 20 years, especially in relation to cloud migration... AND YET Google deleted an entire superannuation company's data. All of it. Unisuper, a company managing AUD$124 Billion (with a B) of funds, all their data in Google's cloud gone. Nope, Google couldn't recover it, Unisuper had to. "every serious company would drop us immediately"... I wonder if that will happen to Google. You'll never win against these corporations. The only way to win is not to play.

I missed this month, and it's the best for me in a long time. 😢 Gah! Stupid life stuff.
Any links to .dmg file? The official link seems to be dead. Thanks..!
Long time Affinity user. One my favorite parts is cross platform. I can use on my Windows, send it to my Macbook or draw with my iPad. Love that.
I quit using Adobe like 15 years ago when they had a massive data breach, where everyone's logins/passwords were accessed and weren't even encrypted. They were plain text. Then they didn't even notify at least half of those exposed, including me. Evernote emailed me that they'd found my login info on a list of those exposed. Adobe never said a word.
Everyone start doing art wrong to fuck up their AI on purpose
did they hire john rochotello?
Affinity Suite + Capture One + DaVinci Resolve + Moho
Maybe it's just me but "easy" isn't the word for this. 99% of the beginner tutorials out there are by teenagers who have no idea of how to actually help others get started / what the interface is or how to actually use the engine. I just did the Brackey's Godot Tutorial and if CT.JS had some proper beginner tutorials, it might get more traction.
Clip studio paint is another alternative for the digital painters out there. They offer one time payment or subscription
Glad I left these imbeciles when they started the subscription model, I knew what they would become, it was clear.
Whats Corel doing during this time? We used to used corel draw in the sign shop back in the day.
Has anyone used Hasselblads lighroom alternative Phocus? Is it any good?
Publisher is WAY better than indesign, it’s a straight up upgrade
Boy too bad Gimp is sub-par and Krita can't do photo-editing...
Affinity Designer 2.0 is SO much better than 1.0. I might switch from Illustrator.
Makes me really glad I dumped them a few years ago. Then I was not exactly thrilled by the real cost of their subscription model. It was something that looked like a great deal at first until you added up what it would be each year and realized you would be paying perpetually. Now that they are pulling this stunt and have all kinds of tricks to force you to agree I'm doubly glad I gave them the old heave-ho. The "industry standard" argument has always been held over your head to try to get you to join the lemmings who continue to blindly shell out money and blindly trust this behemoth but with competitors getting better and better (Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, Affinity Publisher, DaVinci Resolve, and more) it makes less and less sense to even consider them. Good riddance.
I tried to cancel my subscription but realized i'd be fined $99 for early cancelation. XD SO glad i still have a cd based version. :) I dont need AI that much.
I stop paying for adobe because my university give it to us BUT nd im never going back to adobe
"We didnt do anything... it was AI."
Saw it today and I already knew to was to dunk on them
Well yes, but I have been in this world long enough to know that a lot of things may happen in the future, if they have a license to your content, they may not use that now, but what if they are bought by ea games or other company and in five years they decide to use your content, license it to others, sue you or demand a fee for a license to use your own content, the same for "we don't use your content to train AI", I don't think that writing that phrase like that in the terms of use is even legally binding.
Affinity designer is amazing. I highly recommend it. Affinity photo, left something to be desired imo. At least, the last version did. Not sure about the new version. I might upgrade to it now.
thanks Mike, I guess, time will show what is better...
Their AI sucks, it needs all the training it can get. This also makes sense considering it’s cloud based. Just don’t save your stuff in the cloud. They shouldn’t be pulling remote content from people’s hard rive or computer.Definitely no live monitoring while you are working. If you put work on Behance or in their cloud server, instead of storing locally… it’s to be expected
My personal experience is, even though I'm very unlikely of getting sued by Adobe for using pirated copy of its software, I still switched to Affinity several years ago, simply because Adobe products are just hard to use. Sure there are features missing in Affinity products (especially in V1 days), but Adobe products are just clunky to use in general, runs considerably slower (especially after Affinity got its hardware acceleration) and calling the software bundle a suite is almost lying: even Photoshop and Illustrator would have a hard time working together.
Well, shitterstock took people's content to train their AI and then put content creators out of business with it and they didnt ask... Instead they retroactively paid people 15 bucks... Well, Adobe is asking...
As an amateur I’ve been using Affinity for years now, couldn’t go back to Adobe. I don’t really need publisher, but quite the bargain for the price.
We should sub-license past adobe products on the high seas!
Well, thank the fools who use Adobe. Should have quit when they went full nzy with their subscriptions and always on connections.
We should sub-license past adobe products on the high seas!
I've been using the Affinity suite for the last few years. I still find some problems with them (especially Designer) but I hope they will catch up to Adobe Illustrator somewhat soon. Unfortunately, I'm still stuck with Adobe for a couple of things. I use Substance Painter and Designer (but plan on switching completely to InstaMAT as soon as it updates a couple things. I also use After Effects and there just isn't anything equivalent. I can do a lot in Fusion but my brain just cannot grasp the node work rather than layers. I also use AE for compositing and VFX and rarely for motion design/animation which means there really isn't any alternatives.
It’s affinity chance to port to Linux and win a market free of competitors
Adobe is been taken over by the indian mafia just like the whole american healthcare system and tech sector. You think I'm joking but this is what's happening.
Using Davinci for a long while now (on private stuff mostly that doesnt end up on the internet) and man, i love it. Even the free version is all you'd need unless you are actively in the movie/video making industry, but any hobbyists should find all they need in the free version (exceptions are always a thing obviously, but you get what i'm saying)
If you buy three of them you can launch anyone and access the others in the same GUI while working on the same file, it’s awesome
stupid me i thought it was mcpe shaders
Can you ctrl + c and ctrl + v the node before inputting any kind of image in it? Like setting it as a tileset, copy paste it, then input what ever tileset you have
If you design a lot, you will know they are all the same, Adobe, Nvdia, Autodesk, etc. Using your work to feed their AI to replace your job.
Can't wait for people to get jailed because Adobe flagged their baby bathtub time pictures as illegal material.
If you don't have money you can try Gimp as substitute for Photoshop and Inkscape for Illustrator. They are not the best but is an option and the only one if you are using Linux
