Purple Creek Walnut Slabs on the Sawmill
Sawing tons of walnut lately, these were two of the logs. Really pretty purple that will turn brown as the air gets to it but for such an ugly log it sure made some beautiful slabs.

Massive Cherry Slabs!

These are by far the longest slabs I've cut yet. This was a huge cherry log I needed to get sawed. The slabs were 250 lbs each. Man were these nice slabs!

It was way to hot to saw but it was worth the effort. Still testing the carbide blades and so far I could not be happier with them. Tell me what you think these beautiful slabs would sell for?

I finally tried a carbide blade on my LT15wide. Sawing up a black walnut Y log that was 27" wide. Did I like it? Real world test.

My sister Beth and I saw up a big spruce log on the woodmizer. It was a beautiful day to spend outside sawing. It was a big log and we ended up with a lot of lumber from it.
Amazing Hickory Slabs!

This was one of the best Hickory logs yet. Steve and Karl were really into seeing what the next cut would reveal. I made sure they had plenty to take home and I've got more if they want it. Was a fun day sawing.

This is the first of a load of hickory logs Steve and I picked up a few weeks ago. I didn't expect this log to yield much but it turned out to be some incredible wood.     You have to hang heavy stuff closer to the machine. You can even take the fork attachment off and hang it from your cross bar. Good looking slabs.

    Large sawmills pile their walnut tight. Steam it so it all turns brown. Then dry it. So there’s no white sapwood cuz no one can afford to cut off all the sapwood from every log

      I would love to find a way to preserve the fresh cut colors. Also when I saw walnut for me I keep sapwood on it, I like the contrast.

      I'm picking up 3 hemlock logs today to saw up for the kiln build. Can't build without the wood lol... Hemlock is amazingly difficult for me to get for some reason.

      It's black cherry, one of the few logs I can identify easily because the cut ends turn black.

      You sure could but it wasn't really that heavy a cut, I was just taking thin cuts because all I had was a 1" flattening bit.

    That’s a great discovery. May have to try it. Wish it had up and down adjustments but I suppose putting shims in of equal size will be fine. I might have to come up with the additional rail system for the lt35

      Any slab over 2" would need shims between wheels and extrusion bars but I make wood so that's not a problem.

    I have no idea whether you thought of it or not, but is there a way that a person can patent an idea such as you had there. If you didn’t think of it, and you did patent the idea and you mailed a special delivery letter back to yourself with the idea and drawings in it, you probably will make a fortune because I can see everybody who has a sawmill will want one of those gadgets. It was just an idea I had it was told to me years ago by a friend and of course I have no talent for thinking of things, other than when to come home for supper. Best of luck with your new toy.       It's not a new idea. Woodmizer makes a really nice one called the MB100 that they sell for $10,000.

      That's AWESOME! I wish I had skills to build stuff like that! You can't plane wet wood, try it on dry slabs and take 1/16 or less off on final pass for a good finish, 1/8 is crazy heavy pass.
