Sawing a black walnut log today. I kept a lot of the footage of moving the slabs for @sawingwithsandy since last week he struggled with a big log too. Enjoy the video.
I didn't know walnut towards the outside of the log is lighter in color than the more mature center when freshly cut. That must smell really good off the mill. Thanks for the video.
Your nephew sure does get a lot of beautiful wood without helping a man out lmao. Be careful out there. These big pieces will take a toll. Beautiful wood and great video as always.
@@mcsawmill Yeah all good here thanks, we've had crazy weather and my excavator needs some work so the engine got pulled out last week, and my chainsaw needs replacing too! Hoping to be back in action in the next week or so.
I hope your nephew appreciates your back breaking work! The bleeping red squirrels chewed thru a plastic deck box to get to the bird seed inside...very destructive and determined tree rats!
Yeah, I saw Sandy's video of sawing a giant Red Oak. There's a new saying - "the struggle is real" that comes to mind when you guys are sawing the big ones on a mill without hydraulics. Good video that shows whatever you get paid for your service, you have earned it. I'm currently turning some big white and post oak into firewood which I would love to have had milled but....... Be careful, don't strain anything.
I know it must be fun, but you have to get paid something unless it's for family. You did mention it was for some family member. But even then, he should be there to help with handling everything. LOL
@@joebenjamin9840 I move wood into my garage where I have a heater, in that environment I can air dry twice as fast as if it's outside. So if you are looking to ait dry, do it in an enclosure.
Wind shake is when a tree gets a crack between rings. They used to think it was caused by strong winds bending the tree but now they suspect fungus of some sort.
Nice cutting n that walnut very very nice looking timber
Really nice looking walnut slabs, nice video
Thanks, hope you enjoyed watching.

Really enjoyed the video! Beautiful log with real nice lumber slabs you got from it!
Glad you liked it. It's much easier to saw heavy slabs in summer, I don't know why.

Oh I get to keep half of it and his work was cutting the tree and hauling it to me.
That is some gorgeous wood.
Another beautiful log coming off your mill again!
Hey you havent put out any videos for a bit, you ok up there?

Wish the foxes would come back, no squirrels when they visit!
Those things definitely are giving you a workout
One of the best log reveals on youtube!!!
Nice looking heavy, wet, walnut slabs! I’m wore out just watching you! I hope you didn’t break your finger too
Finger is fine, should have seen me picking up logs this weekend, way more work than slabs
enjoyed that overhead shot of the cuts.

Nice cutting and timber hard work u need Yr mate when doing big timber like that
help is always welcome but I'm not afraid of taking on the big logs alone.
The combination of white oak tannins and water on clothing will stain shoes, socks, and pants. Ask me how I found this out.
does it create a light color stain?
@@mcsawmill Turns everything a charcoal gray. Even your hands through gloves. I LOVE white oak, but it stains everything.
I enjoyed it. Nice looking. About how long will the boards have to air dry before using?
about 2 years, but in about 6 months they will be dry enough to put in a kiln and hopefully by then I have my kiln built.
@@mcsawmill ok thank you. I was just wondering about the air dry.

I'd like to make some handles out of that.
What kind of handles?
This video was brought to by The American Heart Assc. Not really but the heavy breathing made us all tired out
yea sorry about that, usually you won't hear me breathing except the microphone was on my chest so... It sounded way worse than it was.
what's "wind shake"?
Wind shake is when a tree gets a crack between rings. They used to think it was caused by strong winds bending the tree but now they suspect fungus of some sort.
Why do you saw a slab, and leave it on top of your next piece? Just push it off!
The log isn't clamped so weight keeps it from moving.
