    Here is my interpretation as a writer who writes similar lyrics: Bunny is a Rider (On the edge of wonder) Bunny Is a Rider Bunny is a rider (Unknown, doesn’t matter) Satellite can't find her (She’s open to different non mainstream, non traditional or non progressive ideas) No sympathy, mm Ain't nothing for free (She’s cynical not naive) But I'm so nonphysical (She’s spiritual) I do, I do, feel like the lady I do, I do, fireworks blazing (Wedding, great sex) I do, I do, heart is un breaking (Healing from past abusive relationships) I do, I do But don't drop my name (She’s very private) Dirty like it's Earth Day (Feeling sexy) Tryna wet that palette (Wanting sex) Can you cut that check (Complicated relationship between sex & money) Crush that wreck (Killing it) Run out empty on 'em (Nothing to say) AWOL on a Thursday (No need to get back to them or go to work) Tryna go as Alice Tryna catch that rabbit (Alice in Wonderland)

    I was 17 at the height of the Rumours album. It is still in my collection today. I was going through a really rough time, constant fights with my parents, mostly my Mom, and an on and off relationship with my first love. Eventually I left home , at 17 to go out on my own, and when I was feeling insure I played Rumours. I really related to Daisy Jones and the Six. Being an only child, like Daisy aka Margaret and being ignore really hit home with me. I saw the reference to Fleetwood Mac right away in the first couple of episodes. I was lucky to see Fleetwood Mac in concert a few years ago and loved every minute of the show. Sadly with Christine gone I'm not sure they will ever tour again.

    I don't understand, why a poor artist should be more relateable than a rich artist. Also beeing a good artist and being a good business(wo)man can go hand in hand. So I have no problem with your opinion, I jst don't understand it at all... 😉 (And apparently you didn't really read the reason, why TIME named her person of the year.)

    • @surette2012

      I mean, the sheer staying power of her presence in pop culture and the recent drama with her masters on her music/confronting the bad ethics in the industry is what caught the attention recently, and likely sealed the cover. It’s been a long time coming. She has a tectonic impact on youth culture and encourages voting from that demographic. Being a literal boon for the economy (I don’t know how I feel about the state of the economy, in general, if it relies on wealth disparity and the whims of billionaires.) And recently breaking barriers from being rich to stupid rich. People under her employment and cities she scores through benefit financially. Hence person of the year. I think people just can’t agree with the existence of billionaires, in general. Or at least they can’t defend their moral compass and work ethic because there’s no such thing as an ethical billionaire. A billion earned is a billion lost or a great many people are being swindled in an underhanded way for that to be so. Ill gotten gains. I think it is a reasonable judgment. Your character very much ties into your comfortability with sitting on a cartoonish amount of wealth. Just Allowing yourself to break that threshold and enter the 1% would stir up polarized feelings for most. Also gallivanting with no concern of the jet emissions doesn’t seem wholly empathetic or in tune to the state of the world. If we are gonna wax poetics and be referential to poets that valued the natural world, it’s just a 🤏 funny to be a main culprit to its demise. rich people set up “charity” accounts to lessen their tax burden. All these Tax breaks while also not making a stance on urgent issues going on in the world or donating there…Iykyk. They have to donate a small percentage and they are treated like deified gods. we have to remember that millions to her is like an ice coffee order. I say this trying to be as unbiased as possible. I also say this enjoying a few of her songs. Not my favourite, but I digress. Just know I’m not saying this out of some hyperbolic hate. I liked 4 songs from her 30+ song new album if that counts for anything. I think that’s a trend with me from her recent stuff (evermore, folklore, midnights, tortured poets.) I’ve always liked 4ish songs from each. Even some of her unreleased stuff she recorded for her masters. I don’t really like any of her older stuff, though. I don’t like the Parasocial boundaries she pushes, I don’t like the strategic pop star-fan dynamic she goes for. I don’t like how she invites fans to her home or has her team mass like fan content on her socials. I think it’s created a perfect hive-mind to propel her to this level of fame. It’s unsafe. Of course, monetarily amazing. But not healthy. We celebrate that and I don’t know how to feel…pretty ambivalent. Christina grimmie died with far less exposure. We really want to pretend these public figures are our friends. In conclusion, she has her artistic merit. Sometimes it’s great, sometimes it’s bloated and cringey. We should fairly assess her work and try to keep her socioeconomic position separate when going through her songs. But I think people can feel the fatigue in her music, now. You can’t go through what she’s gone through and not become a bit out of touch or in some form of arrested development and you can pick up on it in some songs tbh. You can’t make 30+ songs in such a short amount of time and keep up quality.

    1:00 "If you are a Swifty, I'm not making this to offend you or take anything away from you." The way people have to apologize to Swifties at the beginning of valid critiques is really bizarre, this video included. It's patronizing to everyone. "Swifties" can be spoken to like adults and can suck it up without content creators coddling them before talking about capitalism and consumerism.

  • @Ozymandi_as
    @Ozymandi_as Před 16 dny

    It's funny how billionaires have morphed from being 'inspirational' to 'unrelateable'. They used to be a great rarity, of course, and tended to keep themselves to themselves; whereas there seems to a plethora of them, nowadays, many of whom are palpable dickheads, and speak their minds accordingly. Nevertheless, in the capital of capitalist countries, it feels somewhat novel to hear a young American (forgive me if I'm being presumptuous) grumbling about Taylor Swift's wealth, and tireless business acumen (or avarice, as some prefer to call it). Is this a characteristic trait of Gen Z? You talked about it a lot, and I found it a little bit jarring, tbh. Given the reach of pop music, it's inevitable that some pop stars will reach a lot of people, and Taylor's been at or near the top of the game for 15 years, and sh e's done it through graft, as far as I can see, so given that there will be some outrageously wealthy people, then she deserves it. The cost of so much success and celebrity is normality. I don't know whether she 'needs' eight houses, but if she wants security, privacy and the freedom to bake cakes in the nude, or whatever, then checking into the Hilton isn't going to be the solution she needs. But really, isn't it up to her what she spends her money on? Is her philanthropic giving merely an opportunity for sanctimonious judgement. I heard she gives a lot to cat charities, which makes me furious 'cos I fukn hate cats, and doesn't Taylor understand that *_people are more important_*__, or that __*_every day, the suffering of millions of rabbits goes unseen._* Every dollar Taylor gives to this is a dollar not spent on that, so really she's practically _robbing_ them with her voluntary giving ... there'll always be someone ready to offer their unsolicited opinion, but I suspect Taylor Swift is capable of making those decisions herself. I'm not a Swifty, to be clear, not even a fan really, but I don't have to be either to be interested in her as a cultural phenomenon. 2023 was an _annus mirabilis_ for Taylor, one that defied all comparisons, and expectations, at a time when social atomisation had supposedly put an end to cultural ubiquity. Taylor was everywhere, and everywhere admired, albeit from different perspectives. Swifties radiated the validation they'd always yearned for; dudes whose sullen asses were dragged to Eras were born again, and took to podcasts to proseletyse their bros; Treasury officials smirked in gratitude as a range of previously flagging economic induced ticked upwards in the wake of her tour; academic coffers swelled with research grants to study almost every aspect of her being about her; and meanwhile Taylor herself was to be seen at every award show, dancing with conspicuous enthusiasm to the performances of her peers, showing everyone how gracious she could be in victory. She was the undeniable HBIC, and as if to emphasize the sheer magnitude of her celebrity, as the days grew shorted, she returned to the stadia where she had triumphed in the summer, to claim the troth of American Football's best-loved son. In game after game, whatever points the teams accumulated in play were immaterial, as Taylor dominated the field from the stands; and in February she crowned a remarkable season by becoming the only woman in history to win the Super Bowl. Seasoned commentators, disarmed by the brutal demonstration of raw feminine sexuality, could only burble inanely; which, ironically, captured the mood of the nation perfectly. It was a famous victory (Taylor's Version). Of course, it couldn't last. I've not yet listened to TTPD: the thought of 30 new songs in one go is exhausting in itself, but the ones I have heard sound rather dreary, sonically and musically, and the lyrics sound more like first drafts retrieved from the studio floor in comparison to her best. When the album was first announced, the screeching from flocks of carrion fowl that gathered on their soapboxes in anticipation of feeding on the remains of Joe Alwyn struck me as rather distasteful. So it's somewhat amusing that he is not her principal subject, not the target of her fury. Nevertheless, Taylor knew how the track list was being received, and the discourse surrounding it, and let it hang over his head like a Damoclesian shadow; rather cruelly, one might think. However, I don't particularly want to listen to a bunch of songs about Matty Healy either. Coming out of a long-term relationship, Taylor had a horny fling with someone inappropriate, which proved to be as brief as it was unlikely. Gosh, how unusual. It's hardly a surprise that he was not what she wanted him to be, but does really deserve so much contempt? He's immature, he's pretentious, he's got some hang ups and he has a tendency to let his mouth get ahead of his brain. But as rockstars go I'd say he was relatively benign. The sanctimonious outage of some of the Swifties to Mattaylor last year was preposterous; but her reprimand to them on But Daddy I Love Him seems to say "how dare you be so judgemental about who I choose to 'frolic' with - that's my job"! The disclaimer she put out about chapters being closed, no hard feelings, and all in the past seems rather disingenuous when she's very obviously just shat all over him. She might as well have sung 'Matty Healy is a cunt', now she's added profanities to her lyrical palette, and has dispensed with using an editor. She may feel that there's no more to be said, but after hearing TTPD, he may disagree. His unvarnished thoughts on Taylor could well elicit calls for his public execution; but he is a songwriter, and he has a right of reply. If the stiletto boot were on the other foot, perhaps that might be a valuable experience for Taylor. However the larger point is that this album seems to be eliciting mixed reactions from many directions, and feels like a mis-step that could have been avoided. It might have been better if it was shorter, or if she had taken more to allow her feelings to settle, or found a different outlet for some of her emotional distress. She might have spent some time developing her sound, or working with new collaborators. Or maybe just having a rest. Her work rate over the last five years has been pretty incredible, but no-one can sustain that forever. The last couple of years in particular, Midnights, Taylor's Versions, Eras Tour (massive and ongoing) and now this, an album that is much longer than anyone expected or needed, and arguably not as good as some would hope. She must be recording just about everything she is writing, maybe the vaults tracks have encouraged her to be less careful with what she releases? If she records it, and puts it out, people will buy it, but should she? Is this hubris? Has Taylor been taken in by her own hype? The bigger you get, the fewer people there are that will give you an honest opinion - until it's too late, that is. Is she trapped on the treadmill of her own work ethic? Is she greedy and cynical? Or is she manic? It seems as if she is almost afraid to stop. Meanwhile this album feels rushed. Mark Twain famously once said 'I apologise for the length of this letter; I didn't have time to write a shorter one'. (I feel much the same way about this comment, which unfortunately I am using to work out what I think ...). Someone else said 'You need to calm down ...', but I can't find the life of me remember who. Anyway, I kind of hope Taylor takes a break.

    I SO SO SO agree that she just kept making music and nobody stopped her or said a thing about it or edited the process at any point and *it shows*. I also agree that 30+ songs is just too much. I was happy when the tracklist dropped and I saw it's "only" 16 songs, but nooooo. it had to be a double album and it took me a week to listen to the whole thing. She's also such a Capitalist Barbie that I cannot relate. I'm just watching to see what comes out in the wash, since none of it has anything to do with me. I also enjoy watching toxic Swifties froth at the mouth whenever anything even vaguely negative is said about her. 🍿🍿 And not all of us are looking for love. I think TS says it best: “Be new to us, be young to us, but only in a new way and only in the way we want,” she said. “And reinvent yourself, but only in a way that we find to be equally comforting but also a challenge for you. Live out a narrative that we find to be interesting enough to entertain us, but not so crazy that it makes us uncomfortable.” Her level of success, which has resulted in her billionaire status obviously makes you uncomfortable. It's amazing that we support up and coming artists(of all kinds) when they're the underdog, then hold their success against them once they become the success their talent predicted all along.

    • @usagibun7639
      @usagibun7639 Před 17 dny

      yeah it's like I've been waiting for so long for the masses to recognize her as the talent she is, but then when they did it blew up so much and more than doubled her net worth in a year because of eras. I criticize her billionaire status and hope she pulls a dolly parton with it or something but I can't help but wonder like .. the world begs for YEARS for her to make them understand why she deserves to be considered a good musician.. and when she does in the only system available to her its time to criticize the success. which like fine, yes, I criticise it too. billionaires should not exist. its just now a lot of criticism of her music is reduced to "womp womp billionaire" like... sigh idk.

    • @marigolden_mariposa
      @marigolden_mariposa Před 3 dny

      @usagibun7639 exactly. and every time I've read an article about her billionaire status it is talked about how she's become a billionaire solely through the music. meaning she doesn't have a perfume brand, fashion line, makeup line etc. I know she's done commercials in the past and she licenses her music to TV shows and obviously she sells merch on her website but I have seen this in several different articles talk about how she became a billionaire solely through the music in a way that most other artists that became billionaires have not. she literally beat Records only set by the beatles. she's in her own league right now. and I completely agree with both of these comments it's crazy how we want artists to be successful so bad and tell them to get their bag and then the minute they do we hate them for it. I also hope she pulls a dolly parton. we've seen her donate a lot to charity in the past she pays her workers extremely well and donates to food banks all along the Eras tour. and we've seen her donate to things in the past at the end of her music videos. so hopefully she just keeps donating more and more and more until she's technically not a billionaire anymore. I've also seen that she does things to offset her carbon footprint but I haven't looked too deep into it so hopefully she can continue to do that more. also, can we get the same energy for Beyonce being a billionaire? it feels very hypocritical to focus on Taylor Swift or bring up a billionaire status every time you try to critique the art when nobody does that for other billionaire artists.

    Great choice here! Love seeing someone talk about this incredible movie. Ty! For me, I grew up with a ripped off VHS copy. I sorta of discovered it in my grandad’s things in ‘92 or ‘93. The tape didn’t have a title so I just put it in. The first few minutes of the movie were cut off so I never saw the title for years. I thought it was this great and miraculous discovery on my part. But I also couldn’t get past the first scene the first few times I braved it. Finally, I brought it to my dad and we watched it together and he went “oh I know what this is, Dragonslayer!” We watched it yearly after that.

    I saw this movie in the movie theater when it came out 1981. I thought it was very well done and I still remember it to this day, especially when the baby dragons kill the king's daughter, when the old wizard is fighting the dragon and has to recite a speel to keep from being fried by the dragon and when Galen crushes the amulet and destroys the dragon. A few things that you didn't talk about was where he got the magic spear (it was made many years before hand and hidden in a brook by the blacksmith) and the how the king takes credit for slaying the dragon. Galen and Valyrian are standing around looking at the dragon carcass (it fell in the lake) when the king rides up with his court. He walks up to the dragon, sticks a sword into the carcass of the dragon and his councilor declares him King Nitwit, Dragon Slayer. All in all, a very good movie.

    I absolutely loved this movie when it came out. I watched it on cable got it on VHS love it love it love it. As a fan of fantasy literature I was floored when this came out. It was a serious effort to make the fantasy of magic and dragons real on the big screen. I believe that due to this film we were able to have films like The Lord Of The Rings and TV shows like Game Of Thrones. I would love to see this movie again it was great and would highly recommend it to fans of fantasy and high adventure.

    I have it on DVD. One thing they didn't put in the movie which explains the ending is Galen's parents brought him to the wizard as an infant because wild animals kept coming to him. The wizard put a spell on him for the promise they would bring him when he was of age to be his apprentice.

      @@natscanfly That was from the novel, I wish they had included it as the ending's confusing otherwise. My BluRay player was $5 at a yard sale but I put my DVD on my hard drive to network them so I guess it depends.

    I saw this underrated masterpiece at he theater when I was 16. It captures the setting of early medieval Europe perfectly. The dragon was an astonishing work of stop-motion animation. As a AD&D kid I thought Dragonslayer was way better than Raiders.
