    The CAD Equitek microphone features a Battery that operates in conjunction with one of its front switches. This particular switch serves as an on-off switch. It is important to note that if left in the "on" position, the Battery will deplete and require replacement. For detailed instructions, a quick online search will yield the manual.

    Saw Styx recently in Halifax. Great show, however, I felt that the low end was too much of a good thing. Loud, flabby kick drum after the first song. Now Sting and Super Tramp sounded great in the same venue. John Mellencamp had a ridiculous amount of low end happening there, while Cheap Trick, a band I really like, sounded like total crap out front, and we were seated directly behind the foh setup for that show. The above is based on my humble opinion as I'm not a pro live sound person.

    My boy in nashville keeps all his mics in their shockmount and attached to an orbit attachment on the shelves in his glass showcases (used from some jewelry store or something)so that when he grabs one, he just clips it in. Huge time saver even if expensive up front for all the adapters…worth it!

    I would sell and get two BAE Neve and Preamps and get two Shellfords if I were you mate. Neve 1073 is clear winner here. But there are even better copies of it like BAE... plus old hardware components will soon die and when you service them they will not sound the same... newer components will change the sound of 1073 cause newer quality components will have less harmonic distortion etc. So sell them while you can at top price mate.

    It depends on what you’re trying to achieve. If you want to be a top level commercial facility that high level producers rent out, it seems like the mic locker needs to be pretty robust. If you’re a home studio and or small commercial studio, a well curated collection of mics is all you need to get the job done well.

    Yes, Beyer M160's are the best mics for overheads. (Runner-up is Coles 4038's.) The M160 is also my favorite mic for guitar cabs, and always was, long before Royer made every recording engineer aware of the how good ribbon mics work on guitar cabs. The M160 is a superb all-around mic (excels on violins and horns). The Beyer M88 is another awesome mic, and it did work well for the vocal style on the recording you presented. However, it doesn't have the articulation or depth of a great tube mic and would not be my choice for vocals on 'beautiful' or melodic music. Jeremy, although I'm not a fan of the kind of headbanger music you presented here, still I want to compliment you on your magnificent performances and your mix. Great job! I'd love to hear more from you! Sadly, I could not distinguish one single word of the lyrics, so the song could be about the Irish potato blight or the price of pistachios in Venezuela for all I know. Even the title of the song did not make itself known. But considering your level of professionalism, I gather in that genre of music it is detrimental for the lyrics to be heard and understood?

They give me a better idea of how my mix sounds to the person wearing more normal "consumer" in ears or headphones. If you want honest, don't buy fiio. Go buy a pair akg k-712 or bayerdynamic dt-990's. But for plain just fun in ears, go check these out. (If you end up picking these up, strongly recommend songs like left and right by charlie puthe, Comfort zone by Taylor Crawford or anything by phoebe bridgers..) did I mention that they are also incredibly detailed in the lows, like actually the tightest low end in any headphones I have ever heard. And the highs are gorgeous without underrepresenting the mids

  • @lune_aquiline
    @lune_aquiline Před 9 dny

    I think the conclusion of this video is spot on--knowing what you want is key to getting something you like. As someone who's gone through a few pairs at this point, I feel like I've finally figured out what I want out of in ears. Currently running a 4 driver set of customs that I paid a bit under $900 for. They're "reference monitors" and are incredibly transparent and clear. I swear by them as someone who primarily records and mixes, but performs sometimes. I especially appreciate them for vocal tracking as an engineer, since the space I primarily work out of is only one room and I monitor on headphones. They're also a good check for low end in mixes, and though I could use them for the entire mix I just prefer mixing on monitors. Having said that, there is a downside to a super honest monitor that I've found while performing. In the absence of a dedicated monitor engineer who knows what each performer wants, the mix can sound flat, boring, and uninspiring. To me, that's a reasonable trade-off, since I'd rather hear everything clearly than be able to groove to the low end, but it's something worth considering, especially for vocalists. I can't really speak to the universal fit vs. customs debate, except for saying that I personally prefer the isolation and comfort of customs. However, I have small ear canals (bad for universals) and got good impressions, so my opinion is biased. In my opinion, $1500 for universal fit is a really hard sell. Even $1100 is pushing it for me, but I get it. Great video all together. I really appreciate what you do here.

    I just bought this mic from Sweetwater and having a hard time getting a good sound on my acoustic guitar. I’ve spent hours trying to position it all over. Very harsh

      If your guitar is naturally bright this probably wouldn't be a good match. anything in the vein of the c800 is super bright

      Thanks for the response! I actually sought out this mic because I read it’s bright as my guitar is very dark. I ended up figuring out an eq in my interface software that works beautifully now.

    I've heard the M160 before and thought it was ok but not great, but hadn't heard the M88 until now and it's going on my wishlist. Sounded so good on the guitar cab.
