I don't know if your 17 or 23 jobs per year are 1 day shoots or more but if they are more then you are probably undercharging for your gear. I can't speak for Canada but here in the UK, it would be a per day charge for gear. You also don't mention and I am again not familiar with your system but it is worth also taking into account, with gear, tax write off, which here would be at least 25% of total cost. It's also perhaps worth considering, next time, since I calculate $5480 at £3390, that it's not very much more to buy the Ursa Broadcast G2, with the very same sensor and charge more. You have rigged the Pocket to be almost as big and the UBG2 comes with full should mount kit, V-Lock plate and EF mount + the B4 mount, all included, and I paid less than that sterling figure for it here. I realise the Pocket could be more versatile de-rigged but your video seems to suggest this rigged config is what you mostly use anyway. With the amount of work and return you seem to get you even keep the Pocket - since the 2 would be a good pair. You will increase your gear fees too. Anyway best of luck.
Most of my shoots are single day shoots (or else I do charge gear by the day, or a weekly rate). But fair point, same with including the tax benefits. Although I think if the gear purchase is only worthwhile if you include the tax advantages you may run into some cashflow issues down the line as capital expenses (here at least) are spread over several years.
Great video. Liked and subbed. Keep em coming!
Cheers - Will do!

@@shanebahmann thanks man!
nice breakdown!
Thanks!
Although it lacks a lot of “pro” features, it’s worth it to own one. TILTA cage is a great cage for the setup, most other accessories can be migrated to other cameras.
Definitely, it's a great intro camera for the cinema world. A lot of the parts will be useful on other cinema cameras and it has amazing quality for the price
@@shanebahmann thinkn more it’s a “I can’t even afford a RED right now” type camera. I’d be more happy with an SDI output, atleast UltraHD out the HDMI, indiglo buttons on the back…those three alone HUGE difference, and the little two prong power receiver is weak, I bent a pin in less than two weeks owning the camera with the Vmount accessory on tour. But it’s a sik camera and a must have if you’re DP, totally worth the purchase 100%
Wait are you only charging $250/job, or is that just the rental fee?
I charge $250/job for just the camera rental. So for example, if I charge $5,000 for the whole project, $250 of that is a 'rental fee' for equipment and the remainder would be time, editing, pre-production, etc.
@@shanebahmann I see. Sorry for the confusion.
how long are those carbon fiber rods
I think I’ve got the 12” ones! It has lots of space for the v mount and a follow focus if you want one
Canadian people are always screwed on prices bc I spent less than half of that to rig it out. Minus the mic

Glad you’re finding it helpful man! Keep at it, the first several months for any business are always a grind
5500 for all?
Plus taxes yea, the only things I think I didn’t include were the cables and hand strap. Obviously it depends on how many hard drives and batteries you want to get as well. I’d also recommend getting a legit tripod that can easily support the weight of everything
This was just what I was looking for, a quick tip, showing the before and after a few times (so I don't have to rewind the video to see it again lol) and showing what quick keys you used. Thanx for this so much 🔥🔥🔥👍
Glad you liked it! If you have any other styles you’re after, let me know and I’ll add it to my list
Awesome film! I like that you gave the prices! Hi from downtown Montreal!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙌
Shane! How much should I be charging clients for hours spent shooting and editing? One professional told me low end $60/hr high end $100/hr. May I ask what the average cost is for your clients and how you came to that number? Thank you, subscribed 🙌
Honestly it varies. My projects are usually $5,000-$10,000 but I started cheaper and kept increasing my price until my schedule became more manageable. I can do a full video on this in the coming weeks, do you have any other questions/suggestions you’d like to see?
@@shanebahmann Okay! I would love to see a breakdown of how you invoice clients, and how you get to those figures. It would also be interesting to watch a video of you explaining other services you give your clients... Do you purely shoot, edit, and deliver videos? Or do you also do web design, social media edits, etc? Thank you Shane I am learning so much from you!
What is attaching the battery to the rails? I see you linked the batteries, but I don't see the piece of metal that the batteries are encased in, and put on the rails...? Also it looks like you have 1 "Shape Full Play Battery", and then 4 of the Neewer batteries. May I ask why? Will I be okay just buying the Neewer batteries?
Should be good with the Neewer batteries, both work fine! Here's the link for the battery plate, amzn.to/3zkw9K3

Hey Shane! I do have enough savings put away to afford an initial investment on a camera up front. I'm going to buy the same BM6k Pro in your video, but on credit so I can pay it monthly just to be extra safe. I'm in the Washington DC area by the way. What is your main source of contacting clientele? Right now I only have LinkedIn and Facebook groups, but won't really start cold contacting people until I have my gear...
When you're getting started and have more time than money, cold contacting and networking as much as possible is the way to go!
You're amazing Shane! I'm currently in the position you were in when first trying to launch your business. I have some capital saved up, am ready to buy my camera gear, have a solid portfolio from working at my last company, and am VERY HUNGRY for clients. May I ask what types of jobs you like to find ideally? Weddings, car shows, interviews, social media content, etc?
Personally, I do mostly interviews/brand videos or event videos. Pick up some base camera gear but don't be afraid to rent instead and save some money for marketing/branding! I made a video on 10 lessons I learned that might be helpful: czcams.com/video/KPvE7SLNT3E/video.html
Such great business tips! Going to implement this on how I approach my own business as well as discovery with clients! Thanks for this.
Good luck! I find it helps a lot speaking the same language as your clients, using a lot of these terms alone will build a lot of trust when speaking to other business owners or marketers. Let me know how it goes!
Great tips! A lot of people are so focused on the creative side of this business that they think these things will take care of themselves. They won't. We can be artists and learn business skills at the same time.
Thanks - I'm glad you found it useful! The business side of being a creative entrepreneur is often downplayed but it's probably the most important part, I'd say
Nice Vid Shane! Appreciate the tips and time to put this together
Glad you found it useful!
Hi Shane, I'm hoping you or someone can answer this question. I currently reside in South Africa and purchased the G9 from Amazon in the States. When the camera arrived I noticed that it was formatted for NTSC countries, however we operate on PAL. The PAL version has all the different frame rates, 24,25,30,50, and 60p. If I were to purchase V-log, would that sort out the frame rate issue I have as at the moment all I have are 24,30, and 60p?
Hi Cameron, I don't have this camera anymore so I can't give specific instructions but you should be able to access the PAL settings without purchasing V-Log. Check the settings and the manual on how to switch the system from NTSC to PAL. That being said V-Log picture profile should still work with PAL once you change it over
@@shanebahmann Thanks so much for the help, I'll look into it.

This camera is fantastic, as well as the 4K and the 6K V1. These cameras are almost future-proof based on the internal raw and image quality. Great video!
Totally Agree! We use the 6k Pro and the 4k as a B-Cam and have no complaints with either
Nice shots. 👍👍
Thank you!
I'm confused, why would you choose such a colourless subject to illustrate dynamic range? Thanks
Dynamic Range is the number of stops between light and dark so showing a colourful subject would have no benefit! If anything it would distract from the dynamic range that I wanted to highlight (comparing a light green to a light red is more difficult than comparing shades of light grey)
Keren😁
what picture profile did you use, colours are really nice :)

Any changes to your settings since the 2.4 upgrade in June 2021? And how does this person get the letterbox Cinematic setting on his G9 please? czcams.com/video/fzETPRDOx7E/video.html And what is the difference between the M Movie mode and the Movie mode please?
For the Cinematic letterboxing, they would have used a cinemascope 2:35:1 black bars ratio and added it in post. I know the GH5 is able to do this in camera, but not the G9 Edit: G9 may not have the cinemascope aspect ratio, but it does have a Frame Marker to help you know how it's going to look. Settings - Wrench with a C above it - Monitor / Display - Frame Marker, click on set and set the frame aspect to what you like, 2.35:1 being the most common one.
Thank you. Very helpful
love the color grading! it set the mood nicely. instant subscribe !!

Is MOV noticeably better than mp4 when it comes to a picture quality? Reply please🙏
I haven’t noticed any difference in quality, but I don’t normally shoot in mp4 if I can avoid it. MP4 only allows for 8 bit recording and I like to have the flexibility of 10bit which is only available when recording .mov
Good job! The filter is nice, but what I really like is how well that M43 G9 handles the low light.
