On the last day of the 2010-11 season, five teams - Wolves, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City, Blackpool and Wigan - battled to avoid the two open relegation spots (West Ham were already relegated). All five teams were separated by one point.

But he was magnanimous. And to be fair. The narrative is always, "they were sent down by **this** team" . Ignoring the other 35 games.

If Wigan beat Stoke, but… 1) Blackpool beat Manchester United by more goals, 2) Birmingham beat Spurs, and 3) Either one of Blackburn or Wolves won …then Wigan would have gone down regardless. If Wigan lost to Stoke, but… - Blackpool and Birmingham City both lost their games by bigger margins than Wigan’s loss …then Wigan would have stayed up regardless.
