Fun fact, all of those five teams were ultimately relegated by the end of the 2012-13 season. Only Wolves have returned to the Premier League since and it took them six seasons and a year in L1 to get back to the top flight. Birmingham have remained in the Championship ever since, both Blackburn and Wigan have been in L1 where Wigan still are now and Blackpool have gone from the Championship down to L2 and all the way back to the Championship. All this in the space of just ten years. Mental!

The noughties & early 2010s was the peak of the PL in terms of pure nail biting drama. You'd get incredible relegation climaxes with so many twists & turns on the final day more often back then. I would say the 2005 relegation battle and the 2012 title race were the most dramatic final days in EPL history. But the relegation battle in 2011 was so unpredictable. Such a shame that Blackpool went down. They punched above their weight all season and played a unique open and attacking brand of football. SAF's United was on another level, and to take points off them at Old Trafford, maybe you require a 15% chance to do so if you're not a top team, and even if you manage to pull it off, its usually when United least expects it (a game in the middle of the season). But don't expect to take anything off United when you desperately needs it. It don't work that way.

At one point Blues and Wigan were down ten minutes later it was Blackpool and Wolves. Blackburn deserved credit for taking themselves out of it early on. This is what I love about British league football; even in the lower tiers of each division, there is tension, tenaciousness, high-level interest, and a fight for survival. ---------------------------- American sports have no relegation: The mid-season sports die with men exposed to who they are. Teams "tank" to befit the stragglers' strategy in attempting to get the first or best pick in the draft -- mainly, the most touted collegiate player.
I am glad that I'm engulfed by the enthusiasm for English league football.
Come to England and pick up the game, and experience passion that never dies.

Its just funny to see how Blackpool is currently 7th in league one and Wigan Atletic is currently 19th in league one, that is 3rd tier of english football. Just shows how times change, with certain clubs competing in Premier League and now their nowhere close to reaching back to Premier League even. Rest of these. Blackburn on the other hand seems to be 12th in the Championship and Birmingham 14th, while Wolves in doing great in Premier League in their 12th position one position bellow Chelsea. Luton Town, that is currently 18th in Premier League was competing in the National League at this time.
