Scafell Pike from Great Langdale
Third time lucky climbing this one, finally seeing the summit clear of cloud!
This is second time I've filmed it for this channel, but this time from via a different, longer, and more scenic route up to the top.
Starting from old dungeon ghyll in near Great Langdale with a group of friends we all set off on the 12.5 mile track to Scafell Pike.
The first few miles were pretty flat, before a steep climb up to Angle tarn, where we stopped for some lunch with a view. Then it was onwards up to the ridge line running from Great End, which involved a bit of up & down over some pretty rocky terrain before reaching the summit.
Stunning clear day, really warm in the sun & finished off with an incredible pie at the Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel after the walk.

Hiking to the Old Man of Coniston | Lake District
zhlédnutí 155Před rokem
A hike up to the top of the The Old Man of Coniston with some friends. We knew setting off that the summit was likely to be in the cloud, but had another walk planned later in the week that we really wanted the good weather for (video for that coming soon!) It was a very scenic walk with the cloud base sitting around 150m below the summit. 00:00 Intro 00:09 Hiking to Low Water Tarn 04:07 Low Wa...
A cold and windy wild camp on Dartmoor
zhlédnutí 62Před rokem
It's been a while since I've been able to get out camping & this one was a bit of a spur of the moment trip. Just a quick walk up to East Mill which I've been to a few times now, as it's not too far from the car, but gives incredible views of the north moor, and has a decent amount of flat ground all around the rocks, so you can usually get a good amount of shelter from the wind. For this camp ...
The highest tors on Dartmoor in the snow
zhlédnutí 159Před rokem
After a few days of really cold weather, headed up to Dartmoor for a short hike up to the two highest tors. Initially planned to park at the base of West Mill tor, but it was a little too icy to get all the way up, so just parked before it got steep and walked the rest of the way, along the army tracks up to the ridge that runs between these two tors. A very short walk by usual standards, but a...
The highest mountain on the Hebrides | Clisham - Isle of Harris
zhlédnutí 270Před rokem
A slightly damp and very windy day on Harris, but probably the best one in terms of cloud height during my stay on the island, so decided to head up to the highest point, Clisham at 799m. A relatively short walk compared to my usual ones, but it was very boggy underfoot until the last 2-300m or so, and no real defined path so essentially picking our way through the wet areas! The cloud stayed o...

Climbing the highest mountain on South Uist with my friend Matt and his dog Nessie, on one of the best days we had while on the island. we might've seen the summit without cloud if we'd gone a little earlier, but it made it feel quite dramatic walking along the ridge! 00:00 Intro 00:22 Walking through the bog 01:08 Walking past Peat cutting 01:40 More bogs 😂 02:00 Starting the ascent 04:28 Lunc...
A windy walk on Barra - Tangasdale to Dùn Ban | Outer Hebrides
zhlédnutí 63Před rokem
A fairly short walk of only around 3 miles, out to the iron-age fort of Dùn Ban, with my friend Matt & his dog Nessie. There had been a lot of rain blowing through islands in the preceding few days, so it was pretty boggy underfoot for the entire walk and there was also occasional misty rain (or maybe sea spray!) being blown at us, so we had the full waterproofs on for this one. Not much left o...
Hiking to Barra Airport
zhlédnutí 88Před rokem
A relatively short hike from Scurrival Campsite up in the north of Barra, setting off around the top of the island and then down over the hills along it's western coastline, arriving at the incredible airport from the sand dunes. The first in a small series from a recent trip to the outer hebrides.
Dartmoor Wild Camp - East Mill Tor | Baby Lambs 🐑 stunning sunset, and a Dartmoor pony!
zhlédnutí 105Před 2 lety
It was an absolutely stunning day, so decided to head up to East Mill Tor on Dartmoor for a spot of wild camping, along the way there were so many baby lambs around, and a rather inquisitive Dartmoor pony with a foal blocking the path. Managed to have the GoPro in timelapse mode for most of the bits I filmed around the tent once set up, so it wasn't really worth putting those in, but I hope you...
Solo wild camp on Dartmoor | West Mill Tor | Stunning sunset & sunrise!
zhlédnutí 312Před 2 lety
The sunsets recently had all been incredible, so after work one day, with clear skies forecast again, I headed up to Dartmoor for a wild camp & was not disappointed! I opted for West Mill Tor, as it's probably one of the closest ones that you can park near to, and prior to the clocks changing, I had fairly limited time to get there and pitch up before the sun went down. From the car, it's only ...
Llyn Y Fan Fach & Picws Du - Brecon Beacons National Park

A roughly 9.5 mile (15 km) hike in the Brecon Beacons. Climbing up to the ridge and walking along it past Picws Du, & Fan Foel, all the way to Fan Brycheiniog, before then descending down to Llyn y Fan Fawr, and following the trail along the bottom of the mountains back to Llyn y Fan Fach and the path down to the car. As you'll probably be able to see in the video, it was incredibly windy up on...
Climbing Snowdon | Watkin trail up, and Pyg trail down
zhlédnutí 123Před 2 lety
Having done Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike recently, I just had to nip up to Wales and climb the highest mountain there too. Rather than taking the the main (llanberis) route up, I picked a campsite where I could turn it into a circular walk from the site. And also hopefully have a slightly less congested route up. So the walk started out with a 2 mile stretch to the beginning of the Watkin Trail, ...
Dartmoor winter wild camp during storm Arwen - it snowed! | Great Links Tor
zhlédnutí 842Před 2 lety
Back home on Dartmoor for this one! At the tail end of Storm Arwen, after the worst of it had passed over, but still with some very strong northerly winds, I headed up to Great Links Tor for a wintery wild camp, hoping to be sheltered by pitching the tent on the southern side. It was still pretty blustery putting the tent up, but the winds eased overnight, temperatures plummeted and I woke up t...

This is the last in the series from my trip up to Scotland in 2021, A collection of drone and GoPro footage, that I didn't have quite enough of, at each location, to be worth turning into it's own distinct video. Great film and very educational! I am going to Glencoe this summer and, though we won't be able to climb up to the peaks here we might be able to take a stroll on the first part of the trail. It looks stunning! A question or two though, I see you passed through a gate. Is this path on private land (?) and lastly how far did you walk before you saw the peaks? Thanks for sharing your experience.

    • @AndrewPoyntz
      @AndrewPoyntz Před rokem

All public trails, the peaks are visible from the road as you approach Glencoe from the west side and from pretty much all points on the trail as it's quite prominent. The flat part is really very short, it starts heading upwards rapidly once reaching the gate which is probably no more than 10 mins maximum into the walk - this one's mostly just up! You get a great view of it from the road around Loch Leven & i'm fairly sure there are some flatter trails around there, there's also some good trails starting at the glencoe visitor centre which'll have a view of this one too.

Very nice walking route. I might try that. Going further from Whitehorse, how easy would it be to reach Cut Hill / Fur Tor 1?

    • @AndrewPoyntz
      @AndrewPoyntz Před 2 lety

Thanks! I've never walked across from Whitehorse before, i've always found it to be very wet underfoot in that area - it'd probabaly ok after a decent spell of dry weather, or when it's all frozen - but it would involve crossing/getting round the East Dart river which could be interesting! My ususal route up to Fur tor is from postbridge, going via sandy hole pass - that's a great route too! (out.ac/q7YEp)
