I review the interesting space of laptop processors with the main interest being performance efficiency.
The fast pace in which chipmanufacturers and laptop designers strive to overcome the issue with laptops being power constrainted (cooling & battery) is a fascinating topic which I seek to explore.
Key focus is PC (sorry mac).

FOR I9 13900H if it gets to hot. Download Trottlestop, Disable turbo boost, DONEEEEEE
Is it at all possible to adjust, change or even switch out the trackpad (say for a third party one, or one from a different model)? I recently got my Yoga Pro 7 from Lenovo and it has a lot going for it, but the trackpad... honestly I'm thinking of returning it just for that because it's so cheap-feeling/sounding.
Men you are using the old model not the ultra man, do your research before buy this laptop 😊
This video is more than 1 year old when that wasn’t available man 😊
If you didn’t game, would you consider a MacBook Air?
@@hemmatv1582 certainly! I would like to try a Mac but since I game a lot that’s no option and I prefer Excel at works instead of the Apple alternative, but if those wouldn’t be hindrances I would consider it
HY PLS MY GPU CLOCK IS STUCK ON 360 MHZ EVEN IF HEAVEN BENCHMARK IS RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUNG PLMS SOME HELP I HAVE AN MSI GF63 THIN 11UC
i got one last week big difference gaming on a 16 instead of a 17
Nice! yeah I can imagine that the size and form factor is a huge improvement :)
Most of the points on your reasons to return were things you would already have known about prior to purchase. Are you dumb?
So you wouldn't recommend this? I thought minileds were good
Personnaly I opted for the yoga pro 7 amd instead. Both are great laptops but for mentioned reasons I did not prefer the I9. MiniLed is good but Lenovos high quality LED nearly matches it. So consider both but a lot comes down to preference
Would you say that the miniled is 20% better? I have the IPS version and I'm considering returning it for mini-led
Comes down to personal preferencez I would say. For me I prefer the non glossy IPS, but if you prefer a glossy screen then mini-led is probably better :)
@@WattPerformance merci pour la réponse ! Je vais achèterai le Miniled s'il est disponible! Bien que l'IPS prix est très attractif
hello, awesome video! needed some help, i expanded processor power management and the maximum frequency option didnt pop up, any idea why?
Thanks! Check 7:00 in to the video and you find a how-to guide :)
this was a surprisingly very detailed and well made video for the number of subscribers, very helpful, great job!
I have a Acer V15 Gaming Laptop 4050 may I ask which setting that gives you performance and at the same time it cool down the processor?
I only get 3 hours for some reason
a very nice review especially with the power to cinebench score chart to see how the performance of the CPU scales with wattage. Other reviewers usually just show the max performance but i am usually more interested in how the cpu would perform when there is a power limit at 25 to 35W
I don't think i get 7-6hrs, about 3-4hrs for me and i just got it yesterday and been using intelligent perf off.
whats wrong with the miniled dispaly? does it have blooming effect? thanks
Nothing wrong with it directly just that the effects compared to a good LED is not that big
my oled monitor cost more than the entire laptop. i think it looks pretty similar if not better from not having the oled pixels hard to read text. the critique there being very critical
This does not look like Yoga pro 9i
Power consumption and performance graphs seem like a very good idea. Thanks.
10:50 Was youtube used as a streaming source? If so, where both CPUs served the same codec (AV1, VP9) to decode? Was there a difference in the network stack (driver, rss queue size)?
CZcams was used, using the same account for both laptops and the same browser and same resolution. I would assume that there would be no additional differences that CZcams would opt to differentiate, but cannot say for certain. I would state that the findings holds true regardless of this confirmation as the idle power consumption even when not streaming shows a large difference and it was the idle power draw that accounted for the change in power consumption, not seemingly the task of showing the 720p youtube-video =)
Holy crap what an underated video
Thanks! ❤
great review! thanks I love all this info graphics, when performance of different cpus is compared to the limited power package. It looks like there is no need to buy a ultra thin laptop on latest cpus 5800u performs the same as top 7840hs. It might be good idea to add to comparission some older intel and amd cpus, and test how efficient they are comparing to new models. especially at 10-15w. for example cpus like 8550u, 1165g7, 4700u, 5700u
Great review, thanks! The most I liked it was performance per watt comparission and comparission with other cpus. that was what I was looking for
i would be glad if you could give me some tips to increase the battery life because the drainage is too fast even though the laptop is new
i have the yoga pro 7i too and i would like to know how are you even getting 10 hours of battery life. The battery on mine lasts for about 3.5 hours atmax even while viewing pdfs and with all the battery savers on with no backlight
please reply
how can i get better battery life
@@dakshpratapsingh1962you have Yoga Pro 7i with Intel, so not the same as me but that still sounds way too short. Change battery settings in windows settings as well (where you can set different power levels for the CPU), ensure that Lenovo vantage is set to battery and not performance/intelligent cool. Apart from that contact Lenovo or you can try to restrict power to the cpu using XTU, but that should not me the key solution.
yeah make sense, spend 1k euro on laptop like 3060 or 4050, then cut perf for 40% cause u have less noise literaly 200iq bullshti
? The video shows how to reduce noise and heat AND increase performance while gaming. If you prefer running hotter with worse performance then just keep stock settings at all time. I adapt based on my use case :)
@@WattPerformance how it's worse performance when I turn off boost in battery or I'm missing something?
In a huge amount of cases with gaming, the CPU will boost to higher power-levels without positively impacting performance, so the increased power goes to waste, and if you have a dedicated GPU as well (which in this case is true), then the CPU-power will steal the potential for the GPU to boost higher due to this. For these reasons the majority of games will perform better and draw less energy if boost is disabled. There are some instances where this is not true, especially games relying on single core clock speeds or where the GPU-bottleneck does not exist. For example Counterstrike with low graphic settings and +150-200 FPS will likely benefit from boost enabled. @@justrose4905 For productivity, the boost is beneficial if you are running computation heavy applications or if you actually notice as perceptible decrease in speed, in which case you should have it enabled. Apart from that the CPU will often boost to the headroom it is allowed to boost to, even though it is not required. As always it depends on your needs and use-cases, but disabling the boost is very easy and often a good albeit blunt way of doing it. The best way is to limit the total allowed TDP so the CPU is allowed to boost single core up to max but cap the total package TDP for all cores, but that is more on a per laptop basis atm as UXTU and other applications are not stable enough to allow for this.
Do you know where to get exactly the same one in the US?😢
Ah I'm afraid it is likely not available in the US
Can I keep it in intelligent cooling (performance off) 100% of the time? I don’t play very intense games
GPU coil whine?
None =)
How do you find the GPU frequency for Minimum Power mode? I have tried setting it quite high, quite low and the computer always seems to freeze. I have seen this done with MX150, MX250, MX350. I have the MX550. Can it be that this one does not accept this type of undervolting?
I have HP Victus 16 with Ryzen 7 7840hs, but I got 14700 points and my cpu did not go up 5.1GHz and 65w. Why? Is it a mistake to buy Victus 16?

any update on making a 6800hs act like a 6800u?
Somebody on reddit said they use a 135W thinkpad power supply and that it works, it was in that thread somebody linked this video and thats how I got here.
Interesting! May be that the charger was released later and it does work. When I enquired with them they stated that there was a hard limit at 100W. I’ve also tried using a third party 140W usb charger with the new Yoga Pro 7 but that got capped at 100W (even though the new yoga pro ships with a 130W charger that works).
What about battery life, are the results the same? When you used the 6800HS, how many hours did you get from one full battery?
You are wonderful! Other "trendy" reviewers who make money from Lenovo can't even read the CPU name correctly.

Great review! Background music is a bit too loud.
next time can you include a CPU + APU ideal wattage chart, that way your reviews will be useful for minipc scenarios and also for handhelds/laptops without dedicated GPU
In power options, I am not seeing an option for 'processor performance boost mode'. I have an Intel Core i7-13620H, will doing what your video suggests still work for my processor? Thanks!
Only AMD can Do that
Are temps cool when playing games ?
The temps are fine especially if you power restrict the CPU, but I went with Yoga Pro 7 with AMD 7840HS and RTX4050 instead
Bought the Yogo Pro 7 with the 3K display and Nvidia 3050 on Black Friday for just 799 USD in Switzerland. This was quite affordable. Till now no probs at all. It's working like it should and I love it thus far. The design is also fantastic and premium. I am using it mainly for gaming, graphic design, illustrations.
how are the fans and the battery life?
@@mariopenulli1395 The fans are mostly silent, I won't hear them, even when working on heavy projects on photoshop etc. The only time i really hear them is when gaming. The battery life is okay, it will get me throughout the day but depends on your settings like if you use 120hz or 60hz and brightness level.
800usd is actually a good deal considering it's sold for 900usd where I am, and it has very good specs for the price
Hi Watt! is windows processor performance boost mode disabled good for iGPUs? (not discrete gpus)
I haven’t tested it but might be worth trying out. It might prove beneficial if windows is able to separate cpu package power from ipgu package power. Either test it with a game remaining static monitoring fps difference. Or download Hwinfo and look at iGpu package power with the setting enabled/disabled to see if it drops when it is enabled :) good question and good huntin’!
Amazing! Would be great to see single core power efficiency curve too.
I have just bought the Yoga Slim 7 Pro X 14 with Ryzen 7 6800HS, internal graphics, 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD for 699 EUR as black friday deal. I am very excited. Thanks for your great comparison video. :)
