Screen voltage drop test
zhlédnutí 660Před 21 dnem
Today I put the little Hitachi TV on the right on test after replacing the Screen voltage resistor. The resistor kept on shorting while running and making the screen darken. We see in 2 minutes 50 minutes of runtime to see if the picture on the right darkens as the resistor goes open. Yes, The Trinitron on the left does look a little red. It need further adjustment after a month of running ever...

Smashed Sony KV 1612UB resurrection - Part 1
zhlédnutí 487Před měsícem
Picked this Sony KV-1612 out of the junk pile. I turned it down a few days back but when i was back sifting thru the CRT junk pile for parts for another project I took pity on the poor thing. The front fascia had been smashed to the point the whole tv bent when the back cover was off. The entire lower half below the CRT was virtually disconnected from the top half. Only held by two bits of plas...

Today we upgrade the RAM opn the little Atari 600XL. I bought this amazingly cheap in a junk store and rebuilt it in another video. The games this could play were limited by the 16k of RAM and I wanted to use this as my "Daily-Driver" Atari 8 bit computer..

Little Prandoni TV tours Europe and comes home..
zhlédnutí 76Před 2 měsíci
The little Prandoni 269 TV was shipped out to southern italy to Francesco but the Italian customs had other ideas about reuniting Francesco with the TV of his childhood. We open up the battered box and see if we have scrambled Tortelloni or we have a working TV The reason I voted to remain Europe has been totally validated by this postal saga.
1989 Compaq Mono VGA server monitor
zhlédnutí 103Před 2 měsíci
Today we put a little Compaq mono VGA monitor on the bench. This was bought from the We Love CRT guys in Liverpool and we power it up. Work out what is going on with it and start the process or bring it back to life So what would this monitor be used for? Back in 1989 this monitor would have been dedicated for use on the Compaw Proliant range of 286 and 386 servers probably running Novell Netwa...

A widescreen CRT this small is quite a rare sight, the more common widescreen tubes are 29" and bigger. And it's not being 100Hz is also rare. The lack of 100Hz scan conversion makes it perfect for retro gaming, while the 16:9 screen makes it perfect for movies. Let's have a look at the service menu, this probably has an hours counter! These later Trinitrons are usually good for 25k hours. The smaller the tube, the higher the life, because they have the same guns, but smaller screens need lower beam current for the same brightness. I have a 27" 4:3 Trinitron with 30+ k hours, it still has some picture. Once I had a 29" flat Trinitron (KV-29FX20) with 43.000 hours in it and zero repairs to the chassis, it needed a 10 minutes warmup to produce a picture, and even after that it was so dim it was only visible in a dark room. I replaced the tube, resoldered the chassis and replaced some critical electrolytics, and it kept going, it might still work...
Hi I was looking at your Sony videos but didn't see one with my fault. Maybe you can help me out with my 1984 KV 1356... I had a shorted HOT and shorted voltage regulator IC for the B+. I replaced both and then the new HOT shorted instantly again. I checked all near capacitors and they tested good. With the bad HOT removed, I am able to power up and now showing 140v from the new regulator but it should be 135v. The service manual says if new IC regulator is outputting over 137v it should be replaced again. Do you think that is my problem? Only 5v high on Collector can cause new HOT to short? The only other issue I can find is one winding of horizontal output drive transformer is showing 0 ohms. This winding feeds Base of HOT. The other winding is showing 30 ohms. Do you know what the 0 ohm winding should be reading? Thanks so much!
That's how they're meant to sound
What model is this? If you can't get a replacement flyback, please at least save that nice Hitachi tube. This thing doesn't look high hour.
Careful! Eht bites
I had that fault on one of these, there was a dead resistor on the CRT base PCB, can't remember which one it was now, but I think it was something to do with the G2 voltage, there was something like a couple of hundred volts one side of the resistor, and nothing the other. Anoyingly I don't have the telly with me at the moment, otherwise I'd pop the back off and see which resistor it was!
Oh memories. My first machine was an Amstrad 1640 with one floppy drive. Hercules monitor. Later I added an MFM 20mt hard drive and an EGA monitor. I still have the diskettes.
This POSTs faster than my AMD 7800X3D
I Germany these PCs they were sold under the Brand Schneider, and 100% Identical. A good friend of mine had this.
Wow Brings back some memories used the same machine in 1987 when I did my HND in Coventry Technical Collage (the Butts). looking forward for your next video Thank you 🙂
Do you know what it could be if the tape doesn't catch onto something? I've got a Sony SL-2005 (NTSC) and there's nothing online about how to solve this. I have the camcorder that goes with it and without a tape correctly threaded onto the things it needs to thread on, there's no image from the camcorder. The player will sense the tape, but will not wind it correctly.
I'm afraid I dont know. The tape guides should pull the tape around the head. If theya re not sounds like a gear or a cog has stripped.
for sale
where are you? based
Where did you get a new idler for this machine? :)
Be cool to see it saved .
RESTORE IT! The plastics CAN be fixed. Extreme restorations on Atari computers MUCH worse than this I've seen.
Glad to see this in my feed. I love retro restorations!
💯🇹🇷⭐️👍Bu cihazın aynısı elimde var👍
Repair the case, fill and sand, then spray it silver.
Aww
are you going to try repairing the case from it?
I wonder if it might be fun to create a completely new housing for it. It could look lovely in a steam punk inspired wooden housing with brass fittings.
Was trying to skip the advert at the start 😄
the tray on mine is not opening, the motor runs but it doesnt extend unless i pull on it

Have the same problem. Thanks for the video
I remember at my first job, 3 chaps buying these when they came out. I think I had my Amiga 1000 at the time, and was not much impressed by them, graphics and sound-wise. Of course, you couldn't argue with the range of software. Someone else I knew was a computer novice, and he asked me to help him with his new 1512. I recall making backups of the GEM disks for him, and showing him how a spreadsheet worked.
Great video. I'm currently just trying to resurrect one of these. You mentioned a double band underneath the cassette. But then didn't show them replaced on the video. Do you happen to have any photos of these please.
Same happened with my PC1640HD and its 20Mb drive. Looked almost identical when I also pulled it apart after I'd resigned myself that the drive was dead.
I learned to program on that model machine :)
I've got the original PC1512DD disks somewhere.....
This is a lost cause. This is the classic head crash. There's no magnetic media left on this platter, it has all been ground off... Very unfortunate.
I'm suprised that drive worked as much as it did initially with the platter in that state!
@@Qubeorama agreed. It was recording data... then stopped..
It's a shame when the drives fail that way =/ The same thing happened on that Archimedes A440 I restored. I suspect what happens is a small piece lifts on the surface, clogs the head, head proceeds to dig up the rest of the disk =/ Either that or the head has something on it (plastic) that disolves with age, and the head just starts to tear up the surface... Might be worth taking a drive like this to bits, before its powered up to inspect the disk surface, and the heads, before that "first power on in 20 years" - but the chances are, someone else powered it up already... And of course, it could just be the disk surface itself that has "degraded" over the years which starts the destruction process.
Intro is overstimulating 😖
Why not use the laptop directly?
I think the signal is too hot for the mic input and it distorts.
Agreed. After reviewing the footage a while back i tried multiple different computers and had the same issue. Tried a resistor in series and the Amstrad CPC picked up header but didn't load. rest were not happy.
Former Radio Shack salesman here. I had used and sold these cassette decks for many years. Myself and my friends had TRS-80 computers or Commodore 64's back then. Now I manage a Microsoft Azure tenant for my company, wow how times have changed. In watching this video I'm not sure you are using this correctly. I used tape for many many years both personally and for small businesses. If I get a chance I'll come back to you on this one.
This might be a good unit for computers, using the USB, because most of these record in mp3 which is not suitable for the task, but this one uses wav encoding. Just don't use the remote input. What is the samplig rate and bit depth of the wav file it records?
Yeah I've not had good luck with these modern cassette decks with computers, they're awful. I've had better luck with one of those digital dictaphone type things that save to micro SD and have line/mic input - these do produce reasonable results although they don't do the remote control (which you can live without). The other good thing about those is they have a display so you can name your files and play back the appropriate one - I use mine with a bunch of OTLA files to fast-load stuff into various machines. It also has a built in battery so one less cable to be faffing about with. For the cassette side - the Sony ones are dirt cheap second hand and work well.
This is essentially a PVM.
Deserve more recognition
Great job =D The Atari 8 bit is such a cool system!
Nice betamax
Don't bin it, it is certainly repairable. Better than necking it... If somehow not rapairable, because a wire got pulled out from deep inside the coil, source an other deflection coil. This thing is too nice to bin it, especially with such a strong tube.
Yeah im gonna have a go at repairing it later on.
yikes. ah well there's always another one
These were made for Philips by Loewe, around 1985, there was a red version with a Pye badge (Pye Red Box) and a computer beige version badged Philips which were part of a Viewdata kit. These TV's are not remote control sets. My CZcams profile picture is the Pye version! - I also have a complete spare working tube :)
Best thing for a philips, hate that crap make, well done 👍🏼 Next let's see some Philips VCR destruction.
Yes not a fan of philips tvs.
