Usually all the does of age give birth to one or two fawns every year. We don't keep close track of all of the new deer, and usually only name the few who later befriend us.
ahhh. that growl, man - i was looking for my lost cat on my property in the middle of the night one day. i was standing on the side of the driveway overlooking a field screaming the cat's name, with woods to my right. then i listened hard for any meowing. after a pause there was a LOUD, guttural growl immediately to my right side coming from the woods. nearly shat myself lol (was an annoyed deer ofc)

How does one obtain these deer?
I think what happened is that the deer obtained us. They've been living here for probably thousands of years. This remote development was built only 50 years ago. I think they recognize our body language and habits and decided we were not a threat, and when we build porches, I assume they think we are helpful new neighbors. Just a guess.

Columbian Black-Tailed/California Mulies are the most exotic of the deer species in our USA. There are the Sitka Black-Tailed deer way up north but are rarely seen. Your herd's confidence in both you & Marlis well illustrate the high humanitarian qualities that you two exhibit. I REALLY appreciate the both of you & of course your extended family as well.

I think it is being pregnant that causes that deep breathing, but the heat probably has something to do with it as well.

The bobcat seems to have a minor heat stroke
It was a cool afternoon, about 70/21. I think he was just relaxing.

Deer were agitated, Bobcat didn't have peace either, as deer were expressing its presence.. Imagine a group staring you down, saying loudly "they're over here!" Essentially the deer were stalking the Bobcat, and held the advantage of not being surprised, and feline was in spotlight while trying to keep cool. Deer are more brave than we are lead to believe.
Understandably concerned deer..bobcats regularly prey on fawns, and are fully capable of taking down a full grown deer. The tactics are separate but effective, and very direct, very rapid.. they are highly adept strategic ambush felines, versus stalking from elevation like mountain lion and jaguar prefer..or pursuing like cheetahs or African lions They are a really interesting niche of the feline world. All part of the balance in the order of nature
The cat seemed hot and was just looking for a place to cool off. The deer were curious maybe because he wasn’t threatening.
To me, the deer seemed to be too calm to the presence of the bobcat. Maybe they knew he wasn't a threat.

Does anyone know why lucky seems to have a tagged ear? is he/she escaped livestock?
I named him lucky so that maybe he'd have better luck in the future. In January he got a plastic water float somehow wrapped around his back leg. It was cutting off the circulation in that leg, and he was limping all the time. The leg looked horrible, and he was way too skittish to get close to and maybe cut the thing off. I tried with no luck. We contacted state Fish and Wildlife control. They came out, tranquilized him, cut off the float, treated the wound, and then tagged him so they could keep track of him. He comes in my yard almost every day, so I could see the leg pretty quickly getting better and better. With the float around his leg he couldn't use that leg at all. Now he is able to put more and more pressure on that leg every day, and it seems to be healing pretty well. Thanks for asking. I'll put this note in the video's description.
I too llve sitting with my WHITETAIL deer..learning their ways and language has been a tremendous blessing..I've learned so much!
