A WW1 song plus two Scots songs circa 1900
"What did you do in the Great War Daddy?", "Hullo McGregor!" and "I'm in love wi' Bessie" as sung by my grandfather in 1974 on the occasion of his 81st birthday. Please post any additional information you might have about these songs. This kind of material is rarer-than-rare and was recorded by me on a cassette recorder I got for my 10th birthday in 1972. Not many of us thought of recording our grandparents when we were young! This is a recording of someone who was born in Dumbarton,Scotland in 1893, survived the horrors of the first world war, was gassed at Ypres, went on to become a shop steward on the Clydeside shipyards and lived to the grand old age of 82 - I present to you my wonderful and fearsome grandfather on my mother's side, Joseph McVey. In the slideshow of photos you will also see here is his wife Janet Charlotte McVey (nee Danby) and a very young me, Ivor Davies :-) Enjoy!

Jaguar's early '00s adverts were the absolute best in terms of soundtrack, visual appearance and drama. I remember there was this, Sting's Desert Rose S-Type advert and Presets' Steamworks XJ commercial (my favourite)
