What is the advantage to an exposed core instead of an internal core? Is it personal preference? Your fabric is cute!

I think the way that cloth pads can lighten flow and shorten periods would be in the women who have their hormones disturbed by the toxins in disposable pads. Hormones will influence how thick your uteran lining builds. This may be why some women actually find the number of days their cycle lasts is fewer with cloth pads. Its not just they change it less often, but the number of days is less. There are so many endocrine disruptors in conventional products.

I'm 7 years late to the party and I'm so angry at myself for allowing my skewed judgement to get the best of me. I have both endometriosis and PCOS and I can't remember ever having a period that I have not woken up multiple times a night and it looks like a murder horror scene right out of a movie. Like you I have tried just about everything and that includes using super tampons and then having to stack an overnight pad on top of an incontinence pad and I wouldn't dare sit on furniture or get in my bed without my trusty old fashioned blue fabric hospital bed pads that they used to wash and this sounds funny but I then put an XL dog urine throw away pad because I only have a few of those blue bed mats that actually work and I am guarding them with my life, plus it reduces my laundry load if I don't have to wash the mats and bedding. Of course nobody will do a damn thing because I'm not 40yo with 3 or more kids for them to cut, tie, and burn my tubes which that wouldn't help my situation anyways, and to get them to take out the entire baby maker and supplies I either have had to be brought back to life ya know cause cysts rupturing, being packed, and getting iron and blood transfusions 4 different times just isn't close enough to death for their comfort or I have to have some kind of horrible cancer or need a life saving emergency surgery before they will even blink at the idea of a hysterectomy. Like you I have tried just about everything, short of getting really pissed off and buying adult diapers, I really have nothing to lose to give your ideas a try and go to town on my sewing machine. I think I am going to try 4 different patterns I have seen that 4 of you lovely crafters have all said works for your heavy flows. 1st will be your pattern and fabric recommendations, 2nd will be the gusher pad with the slits, 3rd will be one with an added petal shaped core flap and finally I'm going to buy some cheap panties and sew a cloth pad directly to the panties but I will be adding longer front and backs as there's no telling where and when I will have a leak when sleeping.

Regarding the thrush issue after a period. Try making capsules of Borax. Put 2 up there before bed for 3 nights. Sometimes there is a candida that normal OTC meds doesnt treat- this worked for me. Also use vaseline around the middle opening during and near the end of your menstral cycle- i think we get dry down south due to the excessive wiping during that time so it leads to dryness ans itching. This has helped me immensely

I have watched so many tutorials on unpaper towels and you are the first one to say, No to flannel. I thought it was me that just don't care of the feel of the flannel to wipe up messes. I only like Terry cloth but I like the cost of the flannel. It's cheaper. BUT I don't like using flannel. Thank you for your tutorial.🙏🏼😊💕

I know this is dumb and you kinda already answered but I'm sending these over to uganda to our comunity there. I want to be able to make a small med and large and a light moderate and gush flow. What sizes would you recommend I make. I would love to be able to make them all but I just can't do that many different options atm. What would you recommend.

    • @jyeprice9382

Like would I do the 10 11 and 12. Or would I do 8 10 and 12. With a liner for the teens. I'm so confused. But I realy want to provide these to my friends in uganda. They don't have many options so anything is better than nothing but I realy want it to work.the girls don't go to school when aunt flow is in town. And we can't have that we need them at school.

this is awesome!! i'm over here giggling because i finally made my first (3) cloth pads 2 days ago and I was SO bummed out because they weren't cute at all!! it wasn't funny 2 days ago and the main takeaway from my first ones (i started wearing cloth about 5 years ago and ordered all of mine online) was that they're functional...they will definitely get the job done. thank you so much for showing us your first one, i swear the second of my 3 turned out a lot like yours...snaps way off and stitching was all over the place. BUT i have 3 new pads now :) i have PUL for backers and Zorb for core but i appreciate your core suggestions and will try others/upcycling!!

Can you do a side-by-side test with the same amount of water to see rates, leaks, squeezeout comparisons?

  • @recyclingtreasures1541

I find that people balk at the first thought of cloth toilet wipes. But, once you start with using them for pee wipes, it becomes easy. My suggestion is to test a corner of the material to see how absorbant it is, before you start cutting. Not all cotton, flannel is absorbant and you want it to be absorbant or you will become discouraged.
