      Aw thank you for your kind words! I hope you get to camp Haleakala soon it’s definitely something to experience. Not much backpacking trails in Oahu since there is not really accesible paths unless you want to just camp along the Ko’olau summit trail but even that isn’t like a designated trail for backpacking. We camped along Manana ridge but only short kine to the shelter, I have that video coming up in the next few weeks. Manana ridge or maybe Aiea ridge are good to go camp along and pretty lenghy to do if you wanna test your cardio and strength with it. But I honestly think hiking Haleakaka crater is easier than hiking Oahu’s ridge trails.

      Sorry to hear, I hope you're able to get to still do it one day! Way better when it's drier conditions but be sure to bring lots of water especially in this summer heat if you plan on doing it soon. Yes the Waialua route you'll need special access since it's going through private property and also the trail isn't well maintained. My friends and I did it awhile back and it was an all day thing, I'd rate this route difficult though since there's not really a trail and it's super lengthy.

    • @thehiescapade
      @thehiescapade Před 19 dny

      Unfortunately not really. You can try parking on the residential street just outside the street going in the valley, but that is a pretty long walk. And also Waianae can be sketchy. In the valley there is no signal so best bet is if you can have someone drop you off/pick you up when you start/end the hike. You can park your car by the trailhead but you'll take your chances.

    • @rileyange
      @rileyange Před měsícem

    • @minc4970

      @@rileyange so it rains in the summer and winter now due to the climate change?

    • @rileyange
      @rileyange Před měsícem

      @@minc4970 it always rains, that’s just apart of Hawaii! However, it usually comes in short spurts and feels light and refreshing. It rarely pours rain all day, especially during the summer. Certain parts of the island see more rain compared to others, but I don’t know if I would contribute this summer’s rain to climate change necessarily. We are currently in an El Nino period, meaning the islands should be experiencing more intense dry spells and storms. However, this summer has been pretty docile so far, so perhaps you are right in assuming climate change is affecting Oahu’s weather- just in a positive way this time lol! But in general, the weather here is just hard to predict due to the various, constantly changing, conditions surrounding the island.

    Beautiful, I have a question. I'm taking my children ages 6 & 8yrs old up to this hike for educational purposes about our native kahuli. Unfortunately we do not have a 4x4 so we are renting a jeep from Turo. Is there a security guard gate to pass? and if yes, do they need registration & insurance? also how is this hike for keiki? My children have done other hikes with Protect & Preserve, so they have some experience. Sorry for all the questions but you folks are expert on this hike. I love it :)

    • @thehiescapade
      @thehiescapade Před 2 měsíci

      Hii! That's awesome you're taking the keiki with you! There is no security so no need to show registration and insurance. As long as you have the permit which will give you the code to the lock since you'll have to go through a locked gate. Poamoho is fairly easy pretty flat for the most part. It is long, but it's nothing strenuous or difficult. If it's been super rainy and wet, it might take a bit longer to hike. Getting to the kahuli area (you'll come across a sign shortly after going through a gate on the path) will take about 1.25 hour in. The first landmark is the bench that has the poamoho sign and that takes like 50min-1 hr in. Hope to bump into you guys at protect and preserve one day :). Mahalo for watching
