I was certainly looking forward to the return of outside the box horror, however ( and there is no way I can make this sound like I’m not just blowing smoke up your caboose) I’m more than happy to listen to some more of your poetry. The last poem of yours you read out really hit me in the feels. Also, 26th September is my Birthday so it will certainly add to my day. I hope you enjoy your vacation👍

@@troytradup I've been writing horror! Coincidentally, one of my stories appears in the anthology, Not Just A Pretty Face: Women of Horror Vol.1, edited by one of your authors, Selene MacLeod. I remember Guy Molina, also Steve Gregg (sp?) How are they doing? Ordered a copy of Garbalogy today and looking forward to reading it.
@@abbyandresen4487 Hey, cool for you -- I see you also have a novella out! Guy is doing something with fancy cars and working on a screenplay. Stephen worked in the movie biz for a while but now concentrates mainly on plays, I believe. He's married to an entertainment lawyer and they live in Venice (California). So I think we're all still fighting the good fight. Great to hear from you!

I always thought Centipede had taste, but then they published a flashy edition of 'The Spirit of the Place & Other Strange Tales: The Complete Short Stories of Elizabeth Walter', edited by yours truly, and I knew there was no hope for them! 😂

I have read all of Ocean Vuong's work, and love it. I actually enjoyed his novel a little more than his poetry books, but the novel is so lyrical that it is hard to suggest it is not also poetry. (I actually quote his novel in my review for the short story collections "A Book of Queer Saints".) I do hope to read his poetry books again, though, with a little more intention.... If I am not careful I read poetry collections the same way I read short story collections, and that isn't always the best... Enjoy your haul!

Troy, I love this birthday haul! So many wonderful poetry books. I have a Kaveh Akbar book of poetry and also his new novel, Martyr!. He's very good. I adore Mary Oliver, as you know, and also Billy Collins. I've heard Billy Collins read in person several times. If you haven't seen it, google him reading his poem "The Lanyard." It's delightful! I used to love to teach that poem. This is just a wonderful birthday book haul. I hope that you enjoy all of your new books. Happy Birthday, again.

Beautiful edition of a fabulous book. The streaming channel Peacock recently acquired rights to some of the McCammon books. First up is going to be a series based on Stinger.
I've never read Stinger, weirdly enough, although I've owned it several times. I think my mom liked it quite a bit.

Thank you for this review, Troy. I have only just started the novel, but yes, I am struck by the beauty and lyricism of much of the writing. I really enjoyed your thoughts on the influences this novel probably had on Stephen King. I do feel awful to know now that Amazon has sold me a pirated copy of the book.
Seriously, don't feel awful. I'm driven to point out Amazon's remarkable callousness toward copyright holders, but that's all on them, not on the buyer/reader acting in perfectly good faith.

Well done, Troy! I used to write poetry. Mostly in my 20s in university for my writing class. I'm starting to look into sending out my poems as well as essays, stories, etc. (espcecially since you guys have given me hope again for being published!). I'm sure you know about Submittable. If not, check it out. Also - The Rumpus literary mag. I can see your poem being a fit there. I resonated with it a LOT having just turned 55 last week. I, too, never imagined being this old! My brain thinks I'm 28. My body begs to differ. I love the line "I guess I'm the fucker now." I wonder, if your dad's answer had been "yes" would he have lived to eat the bread?
Thanks, Shannon! I've used Submittable for a couple of submissions so far. Not quite as much fun as the old-school snail mail approach but obviously easier. Most of the magazines I'm submitting to consider blogs and CZcams videos as a previous publication and so aren't interested in those pieces. It's a strange new world. Funny question about my dad -- who knows?!
