An egg has to be fertilized by a rooster for the egg to develope into a chicken. If not fertilized then the egg ends up being like the ones you buy at a store. Some places on earth eat fertilized eggs that don’t reach full maternity. In the Philippines it’s known as balut.

not true considering all the wheat and gluten rich diet we feed all our chickens nowadays. even when they are pasture raised they're still fed with that stuff, and that gluten transfers to the eggs
