Jamaican dancehall birthed around 1970’s from the womb of reggae as a child of reggae culture that came into it’s own persona. Reggae cannot be separated from “rasta”. Reggae is a child of the village that raised it. Primarily, “rasta culture” calling for “equal rights and justice for everyone.” Also; Jamaican drum & base from Nyabinghi & buru drumming. Ska, Rocksteady, Kumina, Mento, Pukkumina, Revival Zion. Even miss lou (jamaicn poet, folklorist) helped in the village to raise the child..called Reggae whose grandchild (the village grandchild) is now called “dancehall. Peace & Bliss.

Each was entertaining a dance troupe, but Group 2 was the closest culturally to Jamaican music and dance. (Second generation Jamaican American here!) So nice to see that the crowd loved them all. But the real test is the food…missing plantains 😂 Such a nice surprise to see this in Japan. Kudos to the organizers!
