Lowered Porsche 911 - Eibach Springs and Powder Coated Wheels on the 997
Lowered Porsche 911
The 911 is coming along nicely now! In this episode, I install Eibach lowering springs, I've had my wheels powder coated, and also tinted my tail lights. Ever since lowering my 996, I knew that any Porsche 911 I owned would need to be lowered! The stance, the handling, the attitude are all enhanced on the 997 now. I have always wanted a black porsche with gold or bronze wheels, so I sent my wheels off to be powder coated while I was in process of installing my lowering springs. as you'll see at the reveal in the end of the video, I've chosen Highland Bronze powder coat for the 997 wheels. For lowering the 911, I chose Eibach springs this time because I've read/heard that H&R end up settling even lower than the Eibach springs. Since I have the front lip spoiler, side skirts, and rear splitter on my 997 from EMC2Design, I didn't want to risk too much scraping! I'm loving how it came out...

Upgrades for the 911 FINALLY... my first REAL upgrades are done to the 911! In this video I utilized custom parts from Emc2 Design to add 991 side skirts, 991 front lip spoiler, as well as front and rear splitters to my 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S. Watch along to get the story of Emc2 Design and to see the transformation happen. Adding subtle aero upgrades to the 997 adds a custom look as well a...

I live up a mountain road like this. Very common tourist destination, about 45 minutes from the bottom of the mountain to where I live. I feel your pain.
I fell your pain.
3 years ago yesterday Inpucked up my first 911 in NJ. 3 years ago today I was on the TOTD with it on the way home. Possibly within an hour of right now.
It’s a fantastic place to be!
Got my 997.2 PDK 6 weeks ago. I LOVE IT! Such a sweet spot in the 911 offering....
Congratulations! Love it
you just need to accept the fact that you’re not alone in this world.
First world mentality. Also how is the other car the problem? Obviously nowhere to legally pass here
@jen3345 there are pull offs about every quarter mile. There are signs saying for slower cars to use the pull offs. That road is a tourist attraction specifically for motoring enthusiast such as myself. If the drivers in front of me had read the signs and been courteous, they would’ve pulled off much sooner. Happy to report, they did eventually pull off after four of the 11 miles!
@@motorsandmeats88 But the RV needed to pull off, not the car right? Since the RV was the one holding people up?
@jen3345 they both were running under the speed limit. RV pulled off at the 3 mile mark, and the car at 4
Some people suck…
I think I literally just had this happen to my 993 and now it’s in the garage and won’t start. Looks like tomorrow I’m removing the fuel filter and trying to clean it. What was the resolution for this issue??
Fortunately the filter took care of it!
Excellent! I hope I’m just as lucky. Cheers!
Are you on your way to see your mama 😁
Well that explains it!!😂
Great video, thanks!
Thanks for watching. Hope it helps!
Another great video Michael. Excellent choice with the wheel color. Car just keeps looking better with each video 👍
Thanks so much!
I have this paddle shift wheel with an intermittent switch....looking for a pin out diagram and source for witches should I find the problem. Or, does anyone service these?
I’m really not sure unfortunately. Mine was completely plug and play with no issues. Good luck on finding a solution!
I really like those wheels. Looking good!!
Thanks!
Yeah… I know I said I was considering this but if I do decide to go ahead with it, I think I’m going to pawn this off on a shop. Looks like more work than I care to do. I’m not confident around suspension components at all. Can’t wait to see it with the spacers.
When I did the lowering springs on the 996, I had a friend help me who had done that sort of thing before. Actually I guess I was the one helping. Then when the shocks were in need of replacement, I then felt confident to try that myself as the process is identical to just doing the springs. So really, this is my third time doing suspension work on a 911, and the second time doing it solo. The rears are boogers!
Yeah, I would maybe attempt it if I had someone nearby more experienced.
What the F.. is an inch? 😛 Greetings from Germany
😂 greetings! You’ll be happy to know that the spacers I just ordered are measured in millimeters 😬
Great video. Thanks for the shout-out!. The car looks great!. On the 4S on the front, you also have to disconnect the axle at the wheel or you might accidentally pop out CV Axle, ask me how I know lol. On the rear, disconnecting the upper control arms at the hub makes it much easier to remove the shock.
Thanks! I saw another video on the subject, and the guy opted to skip disconnecting the upper control arm, so I thought I’d give that method a shot. Usually, whatever the step is that I’m trying to skip, I end up having to do anyway!
@@motorsandmeats88 😂
Hey Michael, you're going to need to replace both toe arms on the rear. The boot split on the ball joint for both sides from use of the pickle fork unfortunately! BTW... stick with the black floor mats, it helps break up the sea of beige. I did the same with mine as I have the Terracotta leather interior.
Yeah I was afraid of that. Do you suppose a ball joint spreader would have prevented that?
@@motorsandmeats88 I believe so. I will only use a pickle fork as a last resort. Either way I will always spray some WD40 on the ball joint boot first just to lube it up so a spreader slides in easily. We've all done it though so don't feel bad. Just think how easily it will come apart when you replace the arm.
Car looks sick bro!
I appreciate it!
Do you miss your 996? Is it worth selling 996 to buy a 997.2? I have a 996 so was just wondering if its worth the trade.
Definitely I miss things about the 996! It’s an amazing car, and absolutely analog. This car is is faster, has launch control, and feels more refined though. Really, I want to experience every 911 variant I can before I die, and so far I’ve only had the two, so long way to go!
Huh? I wonder why they don’t sell more cars here in the US.🤔
That thing was swervy. Did not want to drive in a straight line. And then the lane keeping warnings would go off. I kept telling the car that was its own fault, but it didn’t care 😂
Michael which oil are you using for your 997.2?. I was using 5-50 for my 996.1, now debating what to use for my 997.2.
I’m using 5W-40. The manual calls for 0W-40, but the rennlist gurus have a deep dive into how that is a fuel-economy-focused oil and offers less protection.

FYI this is the same suspension for the later model Audi q7 and Volkswagen Touareg just did this on my 2013 q7 exactly the same suspension setup thanks for the great video
Thanks for watching!
How is the 0-60 pull in the Carrera S .2?
Really nice. With launch control I can get there in 4 seconds. Porsche posted it as 4.3 seconds, but both Road & Track and Car & Driver magazines got it done in 4.0
@@motorsandmeats88 thank you! Heard so many different numbers. Great to hear this
Do you ever miss the shifting and the more mechanical feel on the 996?
Definitely. Pros and cons to both. My next 911 will be a 996 GT3, so I’ll get to row through the gears again. But in the meantime, I really love working the paddles in sport mode, especially when late braking and downshifting a few gears quickly into a corner.
@motorsandmeats88 i was thinking of a 997.2 also but im scared I will miss the shifting on my 996.2
@joaquinsantillan6257 the thing I miss more than shifting is the lack of engine modes. Maybe that sounds crazy, but I liked having 100% consistency in the throttle response every time I drove the car. With the PDK, I like slow driving around town in traffic in normal mode. But I don’t like slow driving around in sport mode. It’s a bit jerky at stop and go traffic since it downshifts sooner than normal mode. First gear is really the only annoyance. But get outside of city traffic, and the PDK is a blast.
By the way I would get some spacers on the rims to make them stick out lil more looks more aggressive.
@@joaquinsantillan6257 definitely coming. Getting the wheels powder coated in two weeks, lowering springs going on while that’s being done, and then I’ll measure for the best spacer fitment.
Nice
good job bud! I think it would look cool had you painted those parts first before install. either way looks great.
Thanks for watching😬
Sounds amazing! Did you add any mufflers?
I eventually routed the pipes out to the rear bumper. With two sets of cats, I figured that was enough sound dampening 😬
Ha. I just realized what video this was you were commenting on and that you obviously knew I routed the pipes out😂.
Just bought a 957 GTS. Definitely going this route
initially came here to hate on downgrading the best gen 911 (997) with inferior gen parts and surprisingly i don't hate.
Ha. Thanks for sticking through it. Those 991 pieces look really at home on the 997!
Wow. That does look killer!!
Thanks, Andre! I’m super pleased with it.
I wish they made that for the 996.
Aswome upgrade and looks phenomenal. Another great video.
I love it! Thanks for watching.
Awesome video!! I have a factory Aerokit and I’ve been wanting to get the EMC2 kit since they announced it late last year. The side skirts and rear skirt will finish the look of the Aerokit IMO. And I want to throw the front lip on my wife’s Boxster. Good to see the material is heavy and durable. Kind of hard to see how much of an impact the kit has on a black car, but definitely noticeable. Ribs look tasty too!
I bet on a yellow car that black trim would be bangin. I’ve already scuffed four or five times and the lip has held up really well to the abuse. But I have learned some new parking lot angled exit techniques.😂
@@motorsandmeats88Yeah it should stand out a bit more in yellow. Over the weekend I was test fitting spacers. While looking at my “comparison pics” of the different sizes it realized the wheel gap looks huge. So that got me thinking about a drop, but a small one. But not sure I wanna mess with ride quality. This stuff is an endless cycle!! LOL!! 1st world problems!!
@@K1dPhresh1 ha. For real. I’m gonna use the Eibach lowering springs on this car. Supposed to be no more than 1 inch drop. I used H&R lowering springs on the 996. I hear that the H&R springs for this one can drop it over an inch and a half. Might be too much for an S model that already sits a little lower than a standard Carrera.
@@motorsandmeats88 that’s the same conclusion I came to: Eibachs. I’d be content with 3/4 of an inch drop I think. Don’t care for the slammed look and certainly don’t want to compromise the ride.
@@K1dPhresh1 I liked the H&R‘s on the 996, but it rode, what seemed like, a lot higher than my 997 before lowering it.
Looks much better than I thought it would. Makes me want to get the kit for me now, lol. Good video.
Thanks buddy! I’m pretty sure they have widebody available.
Great video Michael - thanks for your support and all the effort that went into creating this. Your 997.2 looks amazing!!
Sooo happy to have this done! The whole idea of making real Porsche parts work so well across the 911 generations speaks to me. I’m a fan 😬
Does the Bluetooth work well in the 997.2? I’m considering trading a 2023 MKV GR Supra 6MT for a 2012 997.2 but worried it would feel like going backwards as far as necessities and technology. I don’t care about Apple CarPlay as much as I like it, but I can live without it as long as the driving experience is great.
I’ve actually never tried to pair the phone to the car. The PCM3.0 does not have music Bluetooth connectivity. It does have an aux input and a USB input, so you can play your phone audio that way without adding the Joy Auto wireless CarPlay device, So definitely it would be a step back in time if you don’t add that.
@chrisginoc I am updating my PCM3.0 with Mr12 volt, I want to keep the standard look but want to modern connectivity.. I tried other options, via the AUX and the USB , M12 volt came highly recommended on a few facebook groups…
@corvettenyc72op21 I’ve been using my aux cable a lot lately. Eventually I’ll get the Joy Auto unit, but I have a lot of fun things to spend money on first!
@@corvettenyc72op21 I have not seen that unit before. I’ll have to check it out.
Great video homie! I'm out of the Porsche scene now and back in a Corvette. BUT I do have some ribs smoking right now.
Which corvette did you get? And my next video has some actual ribs in it! Stay tuned😬
How long did this whole job take you?
It was about 3 hours, but only because of the cautiousness of having never done it before. I could do the same thing again in under 2 hours easily, especially if I wasn’t trying to cook a dry chunk of meat!
@@motorsandmeats88 Thank you! Looks like I'll be giving it a try. Shop quoted about 4.5 hours for the brake line replacement and flush. Did you perform the flush after changing out all the brake lines/hoses?
@biggiebruce2428 I did. The pst part of the video covers the flush. I changed the fluid out to a race spec fluid. The color was different than what was in there, so it was easy to see when I’d gotten out all the old fluid.
Get another duck tail!
Ha. The thought has DEFINITELY crossed my mind
The editing at the concourse was 👌!! Well done!! I don’t think I have the patience to wait 3 years for you to import a 996.1 GT3, so I’m going to need you to upnthat timeline! M’kay, thanks!!
😂😂😂 thanks for the kind words and the ... encouragement. 😬. Trust me though: if the dollars and cents tell me I can do it sooner, I certainly will!
LOL, yeah. It it’s only money right? We gotta say those things out loud because eventually, some day they absolutely WILL COME TRUE!! Maybe sometimes…. That 996 really dug itself in under your skin, huh? I’ve heard the early 996 GT3 were pretty light and raw. Should be an amazing experience.
It surely did dig in. I’ll be a 996 fan for life.
Springs and spacers a great idea.
Oh it’s happening. 😬
just drive in Sport mode and push suspension button to off! The best mode tho IF you put trans into manual mode AND have paddle shifters is to use SPORT PLUS mode. Very crisp shifts. Try it you wont regret it.
You’re exactly right. Closest thing to resembling driving a manual
Thanks for this video. 👍 It is impossible to have clock in the sport chrono, I asked a specialist for that in France and he said: it is impossible. Sorry!
Ah. Sad news. Would have been nice! Thank you for watching
There’s no clock function on the chrono. I wish I didn’t have mine to be honest.
Maybe someone will come up with an aftermarket mod to make it work as a clock
Thanks for the comparisons
Thank you for watching
I had the same foam problem in my 997.2 S. If you don't want to cut into your 997, you can get some vent covers from VisionVents that will solve the hot air coming out the top dashboard vents. For the foam, I bought some mosquito head mesh nets and taped them over each vent to catch the foam. Then I drove the car around with the AC on full bast. Did that a few times until I got most of the foam out and now I barely have any coming out.
Not bad! I was thinking shop vac over one vent at a time with the others closed and the air on full blast. Haven’t tried anything yet though 😂
