I am an former Military Police dog and Quarantine detector Dog handler. I have been training dogs professionally for over 30 years. Most of us have had an experience with our dog that has been hard to deal with or you simply want to learn how to train your dog. My aim on this channel is to give you those tools.
Are Humans Making Dogs Weak?
All too often, dog owners of small Dogs end up with very similar problems. A lot of these are reinforced by owners who treat their dogs differently because they are small breeds.
The key to raising a well-behaved dog is treating them all the same regardless of size or breed. Sure we may not be as physical with small breeds but the systems of training them should be identical to their larger counterparts.
As I’m always saying in Dog Training often we complicate things and use too much food when training. We want to know that we can lead our Dogs through physical praise verbal praise and not rely on food to get them to listen.

Don't make this mistake training your dog!
Walking dogs with headphones on is my pet hate and red flag. Especially on narrow city footpaths. They are usually fiddling with the phone at the same time. So dangerous and ignorant
Agreed
Unfortunately the selfish people will not listen to this 🤨 Where I live they are a minority but daily repeat offenders. It’s a power thing perhaps…
Very frustrating
True
The phone factor is dire 😣
It’s common courtesy.
Unfortunately courtesy isn’t common
Exactly!! It's mind-boggling how many people don't move off the path. You notice it, especially when you're walking 2 dogs. Our autistic son has better spatial awareness skills. This is why I've taught my dogs to walk off the path. Good job, Winston😊
Thanks for your comment, Winston is doing so much better.
Bingo!!! 👍
Thanks
Thank you
People listen to this man. He is brilliant. Good work mate, great story and outcome.
Mate you are so right. It’s not the dog, it’s the person, owner. You are rare as I’ve watched a lot of these so called CZcams dog trainers. I’m an animal behaviourist with over 35yrs experience who is about to take to going on line myself. It worries me how so much wrong information is being given and that these channels have such large number of followers. This is why I’m now choosing to share my knowledge and expertise in a hope to reduce the number of attacks and dogs being euthanised due to irresponsible uneducated owners. Keep up the great work, hope to aspire to your level soon.
Thank you, I tried it and gave up as it stressed me as well as the dog. I have tried again today and will persist. He did roll around and keep trying to get it off but when he did walk he walked by my side. Really helpful thank you
He's cute and the dog is ok too.
And..... Bam!!! Just like that, Jason says it like it is. And, while I'm at it, let's stop giving "participation ribbons" to all the kids in a contest!! Someone wins, others loose. Fact of life kids, get used to it!! 😊
Well said
Thank you for this clear, indisputable advice. I have trained four labrador pups over the last thirty years and had I used force-free training I’m fairly sure they and perhaps I would have come to serious, even fatal harm.
Thank you so much for your comment and yes I see this all the time often it is a matter of safety so we need to use what works
This has become such a devisive issue, surely there are enough, what I would term, balanced trainers around to meet most needs. I am so over 1 side bashing the other. 1 size fitting all will never succeed.
I completely agree and that is why I say my video force free has its merits but we need to understand also has its limitations.
Well said, and soo true.
Thanks
Hi Jason. My 4.5 month old standard poodle is a going concern, your vids are helping for sure and thank you for that. When i watch your "reactive" dogs multiply that by 10 with mine but she only wants to say hello and play! Not mean spirited at all just wayyyyyyy overly friendly. I was getting rope burns in my hands from holding her back lol The "cuteness" grows old pretty quick. She's about 30 lbs and I can't believe how strong. My last poodle that i sadly had to put down some months ago (16.5 yo) was very timid and such a different dog in comparison. I did hope this one would be a bit more bold, boy did i get one!!! lol I got her a slip lead a few days ago and have seen where they cross it under the neck and loop it over the nose, which i tried and the over the nose trick does really seem to make a big difference. I'm unsure about the crossing under the neck and over the nose - not sure that's safe and the material is rope like not flat. I'm going to go ahead and order the halti. Anyway, thank you again, really appreciate your videos! Very informative and i feel like you and i are on the same page as far as training goes and having control over your dog. Oh, also - in the house off leash, if i ask her to come, she mostly just lays down and looks at me , i try to lure her with food, if i put the food down and walk away she'll go get it but she's not that interested in coming to get it from my hand. Any suggestions?
it doesn't seem harsh to me. Harsh is me being pulled to the ground multiple times. Fighting thae lead until my shoulders hurt.... thats harsh. I have 3 dogs and have yet to see a video about pack walks with reactive dogs
Cute trick!! Satisfying exercise, too😊
Do you have a video on how to work on dog anxiety to get them to this point? My boy is so afraid of new people and dogs, he tries to run away from them.
omg this is the exact video i needed. i do this to my 15lb toy aussie and he is SO reactive to other dogs. i baby him so much and i know its wrong. learning a lot, thank you much jason harris team.
Welcome good luck
Already a subscriber, and I love your videos / tips / suggestions. Keep up the informative work, I'm learning lots 👍😊
Awesome, thank you!
@@jasonharrisdogtraining I would love to see a video from you about how to "walk down stairs" with a dog. It's probably related to loose leash walking, but nonetheless, maybe lots of people could benefit from that specifically. Especially the elderly. I would, too 😊

Good to know, now I can correct myself. Thank you for this knowledge✨😊
Happy to help
So true, Jason. I see lots of people doing this. We gotta realize they're dogs, not children 😊
the reprimand & treat are similar in the timing. like “marking” behaviors the timing is important, dogs live moment to moment.
Our Welshie Nicki gets a huge well done when she comes back … especially with a pheasant in her mouth 😎🐶
Yep. Made that mistake with my first Shiba. Took 3/4 of his life to recall properly after my realization I was doing it wrong and corrected myself. It's an early, major mistake you never want to make!
Never too late to learn, good work
Rockstar needs to voice this! 😁
Er hat sich so geschickt angeschliechen, KEINER hat ihn gesehen! 😂❤
Ha ha that’s what he thinks
Cute!
The golden is thinking...what's with the slow motion. Dude, you do realize I can see you. This is great!! Both lovely dogs:)
Ha ha so true
Kelpie!! 😄 A great herding dog doing it's thing 😊
You had me for a second and I was about to say whatt but lol great video
Sorry about that, but I have to get people’s attention somehow ha ha.
I know this is an older video but it was really helpful. I am working with a Ridgeback who does exactly the same thing except her aerobatics on the leash are phenomenal. It's the first time I have worked with a dog this bad so was a bit unsure of what I should or shouldn't be doing. As it turns out, I'm doing the same as you. I found that working her on a 5 meter long line and getting her following the command "lets go" and "leave it" worked really well. As you said keep the dog busy and having to think about what is going on. .And not working slow.. Thanks for the videos.
Do you sell that style of slip lead I bought another style and I find it very hard to adjust the one in your video look a better ?
Yes i sell them
@@jasonharrisdogtraining can you let me know price including postage thanks and are there different sizes my dog is 20kg
Whaa, Jason down to the point ; strong leadership is the only way! Can’t stand people walking any dog ,big or small that don’t say anything to they’re dog or just give food or pick them up in they’re arm… the small dog becomes more aggressive; ridiculous! I love dogs to death ❤ but they need to know who is the leader and how to behave. Thanks again for reinforcing that . Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦 ciao
The title caught my attention, one of the times I appreciate clickbait :D
Ha ha sorry but sometimes it’s hard to get people to watch my videos. Hope you liked it.
As always another awesome video, straight to the point, I look forward to watching all your videos and the how to use slip lead in future thanks.
Finally!! A REAL video about slip leads!! Thank you Jason!! I wish that everyone who watches Ceasar Milan would watch this video 😊
@@user-fv4it3wj8cyes people make out that they fix everything and are easy to use which isn’t true it takes skills to use them properly. Hopefully his followers watch this and maybe i get some more subscribers. Thanks for your comment.
@@jasonharrisdogtraining hopefully, you get lots of subscribers!! I think Ceasar has a great skill with dogs, no doubt, but I don't see much training from him. You, and 2 others I follow offer far more useful advice. Keep up the great work..... come to South Korea!!! We need you!! 🤗

What a beautiful dog. Love the color.
Thank you so much!
You’re training is so much like mine. My release word when training is also Free. I enjoy your videos more than any other “ trainer “ on CZcams. Most of them are all about show. You’re Real and obviously knowledgeable. As well as compassionate. I love your training style!
🤣
😂
Ha ha
This is a unique presentation because not once did the speaker ever deign to demonstrate how and why a slip lead/leash can never pose danger to a dog and how - more importantly - how to go about properly utilizing the slip leash/lead. Dog lovers will find hundreds of far, far better video presentations on how to utilize the slip lead/lease effectively.
I wanted some pointers on how to properly use a slip lead. But here there is too much talking but not really saying anything useful.
😂 get Nash to help you clean up your home!! 😊
I wish!
@@jasonharrisdogtraining that's your challenge 🤗
It’s common knowledge NEVER to yank or pull on a slip lead
