I like your painted togas and your bases look good too with having the ability to take individual men out of the multi
@@Lochagos thanks I’m glad you like! And thanks for subscribing to my channel.
Liked the way the slingers came out...would like to see how you did them...great job...
Thanks! I will be doing some more in the future, perhaps in a livestream as they’re quite simple to paint but if you have any particular questions about them I can answer here if you like.
@@thewarchesttownsend7595 I appreciate that!!! Thank you for the response...So I suppose, first, would be, did you prime white, black or grey...then did you use contrast or speed paints, and what particular colors did you use on your red, blue, greens...
@Titus_Vespasianus no problem, I used white scar spray (any white will do) then contrast paints: blood angels red, stormfiend and I forget exactly what green I used but i think it was militarum green. Hope this helps.
Тяжелые гоплиты на конях????это фэнтези))))
Spartan hippeis were real. None of mine are wearing bronze armour except for the helmet and I put the shields on to look cool. They’re using javelins as well which is lighter than a spear. I know cavalry wasn’t used much especially by the Spartans but they were used.
cool
Thanks!
Very nice models 👍🏻
Thank you!
Fantastic figures, just subbed
Thanks! Welcome to the channel!
You could try using bluestuff and milliput/greenstuff to make more cloaks.
@@invoke0ften it’s a good suggestion, I have tried a few times before but unfortunately Im really not skilled at sculpting.
Very cool ! 👍🏻
@@paulofreire7520 thanks!
Something you could do if you want a little contrast to your Spartan Cav is add white stripes to the crests. I also really like the addition now by Victrix of the banner and how the shield transfers also have a banner transfer matching those shields. Did the banner transfer sheet have maybe different colored versions of the banner transfer with the shields? I wonder if you could contact Victrix to see if you can get bitz from them. I am sure they probably have bad sprues that they might normally throw away or recycle that might have perfectly good capes or the like... that or 3D print them. Because yeah, I can see the frustration of wanting to do Spartans with capes and just not having enough capes.
Hey Tom thanks for the comment! I completely forgot to mention the banners that come in the shield transfer pack but yes they are a great addition. There’s quite a few coloured shields that come with the banners but sadly only one colour for the transfers I bought. Adding white stripes is a good option but I think I’m actually quite happy with the cavalry as they’re now honestly. I have suggested to Victrix on their website and instagram to perhaps (if possible) produce a sprue of just capes/cloaks which people could purchase and use for any era of historical miniatures.
Great work!!!! Peloponnesian wars!!! And next time Macedonians!!! With corintyan helmets!!! Immagine:):)
@@daviderossi8188 thanks!
Minis look amazing! Basing done real good too! Looks fab ❤
Thanks! I’m glad you like the basing, it takes a while to do but I think the end result is great.
Love this video. I like the start and the music. Do you make the music yourself? Love that there are 12 parts already. I bet you've learnt more things as you've built and painted them!
Thanks for the comment and continued support! Yes I make all the music myself for all my videos. I have learnt quite a bit since this series started and have become a more confident painter because of it.
A man after my own heart. Basically got all the same kits I did. The Hypaspists are really cool I love those Crescent crests.
Nice! Yes I can’t wait to build and paint them.
I wish Victrix had made a more varied version for the Phalangites as they are rather "at rest" and the Hypaspists are equally static looking. You could easily use the newer Hoplite set and add Macedonian helmets and shield transfers to make more dynamic Hypaspists. I have completed my own Macedonian army and posted on The Miniature Page Ancient Gallery under "My Pokey-Man Collection" if you would like to see. I used Warlord's Phalangites to create the angled sarissa effect which is what we see in the movie. The movie costumes are good and look fine but they do no depict the best thing about the Macedonians which is their colourfully painted helmets and armour. This is something which looks great on the tabletop as a distinct feature. So maybe if you do an elite phalanx (like the Silver Shields) you could introduce these coloured elements.
Thanks for the comment. I totally agree about the static poses and I am considering using other kits to add a more dynamic look but we shall see. I also agree about the movie costumes and my idea of basing it on the movies might change as I was originally planning to use a purple scheme instead, again we shall see. I will be covering the silver shields as well. Sadly I couldn’t get the miniature page ancient gallery website to load however I will try again later
They look great project really coming together well
Thank you!
They look so cool
Thanks!
Excellent painting and basing, top notch Spartans!
Thanks!
those shileds from Ellie Oddities are cool. I've got them too.
@@greatsouthernancientminiat8812 they’re great shields for the Spartans
Which of the Victrix Hoplites did you use for the Thespians?
I’m sorry I can’t remember exactly what arms and heads I used but they were all from the ‘Greek hoplites’ kit which was the latest release in the ancient range.
@@thewarchesttownsend7595 Is that just the generic set, laballed as 'Greek Hoplites'?
@@michaelwain3198 yes that’s the one
@@thewarchesttownsend7595 thanks
They look superb
Thanks!
Mystery unboxing . Cool. Like the red saddle cloths. I'll have to try doing some of them. Re Athenias I've also found a splash or red here and there looks great. Keep the videos coming. I'm enjoying them.
Thanks! I’m glad you like. I agree about adding red here and there.
Wow, truly superb!! I especially like the horses, skin tones ... and shields!😍😍👍👍
Thank you! I’m glad you like
I wish I knew more on the history and what was done historically for a better guideline to suggest. If you are not completely happy with your phalanx Athenians, I could see adding white stripes to some or even all of the crests. If there is a leader of some sort for each line, even in your head, give them Red and White (or just give them the Blue and White and leave the others Blue). The over all commander, I could see all Red or all Blue. A tri-color is an idea, going Red, White, And Blue, or Black, White, and Blue... even Black, White, and Red. I would do some test runs to see if you like it. Or do something like White every other and then do the other colors... again, not sure how it would look and if you would like it or not. I do think your cav turned out great, as painting horses can be very difficult.
As always some good ideas there tom. I will have a think about it and see what happens. Historically the Athenian marines which were deployed on the triremes had red crests but I think perhaps a mixture might look good as well I.e blue and white, red and white, solid red, solid blue, black and white, solid black. We shall see. Thanks for the suggestions.
@@thewarchesttownsend7595 No problems, I look forward to see what you do (if anything) and how it turns out. I will add I do think they look fine as is, but I do know you mentioned you didn't want to much of a regimented look as you were saving that for the Spartans.
Thanks. Yes I do want the Spartans to look regimented in comparison and that’s exactly my reason for wanting to alter the Athenians a little bit.
Hercules is the Roman name, Heracles is the Greek name, so I've always assumed Heracles was the correct way to say it
Can you say what Blues you used? Especially on the Hoplites, I'd like to paint some of mine as Athenians
Sure, I used a few different contrast paints, stormfiend, frostheart, talassar blue. They’re the main ones that I have tried but they’re a few other blue contrast paints I haven’t tried yet. Hope this helps
@@thewarchesttownsend7595 thanks, can you remember what the dark blue was, you used on the Hoplites?
@@michaelwain3198 yes, stormfiend
@@thewarchesttownsend7595 thanks!
Fear not good Sir first time looks like you nailed it to me great job they look awesome
Thanks a lot!
Amazing job! How did you paint the skin color?
Thanks! Guilliman flesh but you could use Darkoath flesh as well. Both are good skin tones
These are fantastic looking, definitely giving me some inspiration for something similar. Are you planning on any gaming with the miniatures?
Thanks! In the future I will definitely consider gaming with them and hopefully be able to film battle reports for my channel. I still have a long way to go though as I need to build and paint an opposition army, I.e Persians. First though I would like to finish my Spartans and start the Macedonians.
Mate! They are gorgeous. Fantastic minis. Blew me away. May the spod gods smile on thee.
Thank you mate!
didn't you shed your skin?
Was there an easy way to remove the figures off of their default bases? Did you just cut them off with a blade?
I didn’t remove the default bases because it would take a lot of time to do so and also it would affect the stability of the models in my opinion. I just glued them to the wooden base and then used the texture paint over it all. In part 5 of my series I walkthrough how and what I used on my bases. Hope this helps
This series of videos has inspired me to build similar units to make up a Greek Cities warband to play Studio Tomahawk's Saga - Age of Alexander. The unit sizes and basing that you have created are made to measure for Saga. A single pack of Victrix Greeks (48 figures) provides everything needed for a Warband to play Saga. Great stuff and thank you for your excellent and motivating series.
Thank you so much for the comment! That’s great to hear that I’ve inspired you through my videos to create something similar. I might also look into the saga game system at a later date as well as I have heard good things about it. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you’re enjoying my content. More to come soon.
Fantastic work on them well done 🤠🤠🤠👍👍👍
Thank you!
These look fantastic ❤
Thank you!
As I see a lot of greek troops, have you thought about playing a bit Mortal Gods with them? Some reports would make great content here.
I have yes, it’s something I will be looking into at a later date though.
Excellent looking troops
Thanks!
Superb, truly superb!
Thank you!
Looking good! Looking forward to the Cav!
Thanks! I’m looking forward to the cavalry as well
Very good!
Thanks!
Is the symbol on the Thebes shields a club or a commit?
A club, it was wielded by Hercules who was born or resided in Thebes. The thebans applied it on their shields in an attempt to harness his strength.
@@thewarchesttownsend7595 I spoke too soon ! I should really watch the whole video before I ask questions!
It’s ok. Thanks for watching!
That is fitting, the very first ancients miniature set you bought from Victrix was their very first set, the Athenians. Model number VXA001
I didn’t realize that! I just picked what looked the coolest to me
Hey new here, great vids, love your painting too don’t underestimate your skill, all figures look clean neat crisp, love em keep it, always inspiring

The figures are quite fantastic, thanks for the review
I agree, they really are. I’m glad you enjoyed my review and thanks for watching!
Where did you get the movement trays and bases from?
In part 2 of my series I talk about them but basically it’s a company called war bases. Also if you’re interested in how I create my bases then I walkthrough how to build them in part 5 of my series. Hope this helps.

What Rogue Trader set are you referring to? Cheers
It was the rogue trader kill team starter set that is sadly discontinued now. If you do a google image search you can find images of it. Hope this helps
Great videos and your painting is fantastic! Not sure on the music though 😂
Thanks! In regards to the music, I just wanted something in the background that wouldn’t get a copyright strike.
@@thewarchesttownsend7595 that’s fair enough, I just struggle to hear what you are saying over the music is all! What are you using for your source material?
@@andrewcullen883 I did try and lower the volume but maybe Il go even lower next time. Thanks for the feedback. I use a lot of different source material and try to keep it somewhat true to history but I do I like to add my own flare and ideas where I can without straying too far from the truth.
Loving the colours on those Thracians. Well done mate.
Thanks!
Wow, superb painting and basing, outstanding work!👍👍
Thanks Phil!
Man, those look great. Well done. Love the colors. I am getting more and more enthusiastic about this particular range.
