12. Difficult MINIMAL WARDROBE decisions...
In keeping a minimal wardrobe, I really value versatility. To me, wardrobe versatility means that most items of clothing can be worn in at least a few different ways. I would like to stress though, that not all combinations may be correct. Many times I have put together looks from my favourite pieces, only to find that together they do not look right. Maybe there is something in the balance, or the mood, that doesn’t ring authentic. Sometimes 1 + 2 = -3. It is what it is. The challenge is to find the winning combinations and weed out the duds.
One easy way to do this is to photograph your outfits, giving you the opportunity to judge them from afar. This method also makes it possible to put a range of outfits next to each other, to see the overall effect. It can then be easier to observe if a particular combination does not pass the vibe check! Style is not just about finding individual outfits that you like, it’s also about finding an overall ‘narrative’ within those outfits.

    I prefer the wide leg pant to the skirt/pant. However, I do like the skirt/pant. I would keep it for those moments when that garment fits your mood. I love the coat &I think it looks great belted or open. I would keep the headband for dressier red lipstick moments. It strikes me as a modern day take on the hat.

    - headband: i personally wouldn't keep, but i think it represents your boho streak (remember your tye-dye things, red kimono thing, etc.?) not a surprise that you'd found it in an obscure shop - y2k skant: LOVE IT. if you don't keep it, please send to US i will pay the duties. i do see the need for a more "classic" pant that suits you for winter (everlane's way-high drape pant has been serving me well, i'm 5'4 & a slender pear-shape like yourself. needs to be hemmed though). the trio could be nice, avant-garde/classic/classic+slits, together they would suit every occassion. - coat: i like the cinched look, but double-duty may be the way to go. ie, a thicker one that looks good both tied & left to drape ♄ hope this helps

    Another lovely video! As a fellow Perthianite (is that even a thing???)... For the Coat question - I brought about 3 years ago a Wool Black beautiful coat from The Outnet - cost a pretty penny - Have I worn her, that's a no. It sits in my wardrobe in her bag, hanging with no love. I keep her, because I prefer to go to Europe in winter, and it will come in handy then. I think having a really made a coat that is exquisitely made is worth it, but it may sit in the wardrobe with our winter weather.

    Hi Patricia, great video! Have you tried styling the wide legged pants with a stocking underneath in the cold weather season? Especially a semi-sheer stocking I think would add visual interest considering the high slit on the pants. And of course, beyond visual interest, it would of course make them more wearable in the cold weather seasons. 😇

    Hold on to the hairband. It's the kind of thing you can wear, put aside for awhile and then rediscover. Have you ever tried wearing the black wide leg pants with the slit with high boots? How heavy is the black light wool coat? Could you cinch it with a wide tan belt and wear as a coatdress if you have a corporate kind of thing happening? That coat is a forever kind of wardrobe piece to me. The avant grade pants are fabulous but I would only wear them with a loose black top to give it an Asian streetstyle look at that's not so much the sleek vibe you've been sporting lately.

  • @marliesk9920
    @marliesk9920 Pƙed 3 dny

    The grey woolen jumper is beautiful. I can't help it, but I would not feel good with those slits in the black pants. I would just sew them together, so that they are 'normal' wide legged pants. I just prefer more casual chique. The headband is beautiful, I would wear it for special occasions only.

    First of all, let’s be clear. It’s always soup season. There’s a soup for every season. Next, your questions. (1) headband: I’m not very partial to it. Personal preference. I like it better with all black, no bright lip, as the one pop. But otherwise it leans more girly in contrast to the rest of your feminine but mot girly aesthetic. (2) YES get classic black pants in your preferred silhouette that you can wear in winter. No contest. (3) Coat. Trickier. I really like the oversized kimono look (on you and me). I appreciate your coats versatility of both with a belt. I guess it depends in which direction you want to take your style? I love oversized with slimmer underneath and the surprise rĂ©vĂ©la when removed - a more oriental approach to sensuality. But a perfectly fitted coat is also gorgeous. I look forward you what you find, and will make the general suggestions of MaxMara coats on the luxury side.

      @patriciamycyk Pƙed 2 dny

      Haha. True. I think I’m going to continue soup season through the summer this year. Though to be honest, I completely stopped eating salad over winter, so maybe once it’s salad season again, I’ll forget about soup. đŸ€”

    I love the headband <3 definitely an interesting accessory to put a bit of fancy without holding a lot of space in the wardrobe ! And it goes with that kind of ballet/asian style you've build those past few months (yes it looks ballet and oriental to me at least haha) for the pants, I think it's probably more a choice of practicality rather than looks, because both look great on you.

    No to the headband. I would get the wool pants for next fall and winter. Definitely keep that lovely coat but get another warmer one. If it is heavier and thicker, I would get one more fitted so your not looking like the marshmallow man. I might look for a coat now on sale or clearance since it is a pricier item. So what if it sits in your closet.

    Stylistically I love a fitted winter coat, but as someone who commutes at 7am in British January, in winter I go for looser, bigger coats and outer layers that I can snuggle under and layer up. Style comes second to comfort FOR SURE. They need to invent winter clothes that expand/shrink to whatever you're wearing underneath and magically lock in the desired warmth! How come we can put people on the moon but can't do that hmmm

    I think a wool pair of wide leg pants is a great idea since you're enjoying that vibe. Of the pants you modeled, the split wide leg feels dressy to me, the skirt-pants feel casual, and I personally think the headband looks best with all black, not the white shirt - with all black it really pops. Or with the jeans & black turtleneck combo would be cool for a casual vibe. Re-coats, I think a fitted option is a great idea (choices!) but I would keep the one you modeled - wrap coats are the epitome of lazy glam!!
