The Wild West.
I visit Stanley as well as the West Coast of Tassie in this video. I return to some of my favourite places as well as some new locations that I hadn't been to before. The seas on the west coast were some of the wildest I've seen in quite a while. Photographically speaking this was a very productive trip for me as well.

Between Fury and a Cradle
zhlédnutí 438Před 3 lety
I went for a 3 day wander near Cradle Mountain to make the most of the last vestiges of this years snow. It was somewhat cool however the location and fine weather more than made up for the discomfort . Oh and I managed to come away with a couple of images that I'm was reasonably happy with.
Exploring the Tyndalls

Before Covid, before lockdown before our lives were changed, in January 2020 I ventured to the West Coast of Tasmania and venturded to new areas of this amazing ruggered Tasmanian wilderness. Sorry for the wait for new content on this channel, technical troubles were the main issue which didnt help, and with the unexpected events of later 2020 many planned trips were stopped in there tracks.
A Magic Place Seldom Visited

Sam and I went for yet another wander into Tassies wilds. We visited an area not far from Tasmania's highest peak Mt Ossa. The weather was average however we were rewarded with one good sunrise which made all the effort of getting there all the more worth while. The area is probably my favourite spot in Tasmania and never tire of visiting it.

A short video of a new bit of kit that i have recently been testing out. Its a sleeping mat called a Nemo Tensor Alpine. Its very light and comfortable and is inflated in a similar way to an Exped Downmat. Its lighter than a down mat and uses aluminium foil to insulate you whilst sleeping in colder temperatures. A word of caution though it pays to partially deflate the mat if you leave it insid...
Mt Inglis. Off the beaten track

I have had numerous trips to the Mt Inglis area in the Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair national park, however this time I ventured further west beyond Inglis. This area has some fine sheltered campsites with views in abundance. There are also still visible signs of the Inglis track which was used by miners in the 1800's to access the west coast

My hike this time was to a seldom visited area of the Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park that is rich in mining history and also has some stunning views of many of the peaks in the centre of the park.I had good weather for most of the trip however on my walk out the hot temperatures were certainly not conducive to enjoyable bushwalking !!

I was lured back to the Cradle area for yet another snow frolic with the promise of fine weather at the end of the trip sealing the deal. The first couple of days were very cold, snowy and quite windy. I sheltered from the weather for half the trip in Waterfall valley hut and the last night i spent in my tent. After enduring a near minus 10 degrees overnight in the tent I awoke to one of those ...

Due to the good falls of snow that Tasmania's high country has experienced so far this year i decided on yet another hike into the hills. As Cradle mountain is now only a short drive away I decided on yet another return visit. I experienced the full gamut of weather conditions that the area is renowned for. I had blizzard like conditions with howling winds, significant snowfall all topped off w...

I have just completed a solo bushwalk over 4 days in The Walls Of Jerusalem National Park in Tasmania. I was treated to a winter wonderland of fresh snow and freezing conditions. A fine weather window of over 5 days, rare for southwest Tasmania at this time of year, presented itself to me. Lost first hut in a storm. And saving costs on search and rescue. God help us. That will need to be volenteers only . Such is life.

We can now watch "our bridge" fall apart instead of admiring its strength and longivty, a tribute to those brave hard workers. Hey mate, love your vid. The unusual rocks excite me- next time you go back take a close look and you will see it was all wet at the same time- wet sediment , and the rocks are just huge slabs of mud. I found a beach in Victoria recently where the rocks look exactly like your video here- but the rocks are still wet mud- you can poke a stick into them. I can see it's just a massive deposit of debris. And it was under water for some time- see those lines on those rocks- different water levels. In one of the wet slabs of rock in Victoria I wrote " Noah was here" into the rock. It's obvious to me a global flood occured. Regards Jake

      @UserRandJ Před rokem

      @@m.o.bishere3324 There are some very nice ones in Angelsea- at Point Road Night beach- on low tide you see that beach is one piece huge slab of mud rock, and the deposits up in the cliffs are part of the same event- with giant corals smashed up into pieces and deposited in the cliffs up high. If you walk around the back of that beach you can see where the giant corals were living- their columns are in the mudrock, maybe 50 of them 30 or 40 cm diameter, with pieces of the coral still embedded. You can see they have been sheered off by a tsunami and deposited in the cliffs. Jake

      If you look at a map, probably somewhere to the south of the rim of Cradle. The Fury Gorge is between Barn Bluff and there, and it leads to the west, opposite to Waterfall Valley. You are allowed to camp in National Parks if you pay a small membership fee, and adhere religiously to the rules of respectful behaviour and conservation (which you will have to learn).
