This was a great help! Awesome video!
what you described is basically the MDA framework. It works really well!
This is actually really good advice
This advice could work on web development too, heck might be design process in general. Appreciate it.
Heyy which degree should i go with after 12th for game development
Chris: 2:55 "You need to try not to create any unnecessary bugs that might break the game". Me: Alright I'll stop doing that. Thanks.
where are you from you sound greek
1:10 you said Game Feel doesn't matter, but then you say it's important for the player to get an idea of what the mechanics feel like. How can we show them what it feels like if we ignore game feel?
prototyping for an rpg is really hard because you need a lot of actual content to test it
Paper prototyping is good for board games...
0:48 that's some next-level transition right there.
1. Spend time on the mechanics and lesser on the sfx and graphics 2. Prototyping without a purpose (It's for assessing game mechanics and design) 3. Not prototyping because you think an idea is good in your head 4. Getting too attached to a prototype 5. Creating a digital prototype (He suggests making physical prototypes - I don't really find this applicable for myself) 6. Not formally test the prototype (Others should test it)
Articy Draft is an incredible free software that merges game planning and gdd, elimitating the need to juggle multiple sheets and docs.
Another useful content with fewer views. Thank you a lot for these invaluable tips!
Thank you a lot for these tips, I realized my mistakes already!
Video Game Storytelling by Evan Skolnick, exists as an audio book which is rare among gamedev books.
thank you a ton!
Hi Chris, please i need your assistance in a task i was given which is about designing a game, how can i reach you personally?
Great video,thanks for this advice
2:20 motherf**ker i almost shat my pants ☠😭
3:14 one would say this is from a prototype but its Cyberpunk so we know its from the release 💀
Arknights did this perfectly
What a nice mechanic of shaking the screen😂
From this video, I takeaway that when professionals mean "you need AAA experience", it means that one has be a design specialist who collaborates with other design specialists - or be a generalist hop around efficiently.
There are numerous, hard-to-overcome obstacles I have to go through to get a work visa sponsored by AA/AAA companies. I skipped university because I couldn't afford universities offering good game design programs and I was already working for a mobile game company. I just wish there was a dedicated guide around getting a visa to work at a foreign game company.
Helpful :)
buen video
Hello Chris English is not my foreign language because of that didnt understand what shift game is 04:22 can you explain me? Thanks for the video.
Thank you very much! great video and example!
any game designers tryna cut a corner or two lmk i got dope sound for a cheap ticket
college is worth it if you have a hard time learning on your own and need guidance in game design. it’s also nice if you don’t have a lot of money and the college will provide the tools necessary needed that some can’t afford on their own. and college is good for networking. but if you learn fast and have the skills needed and money to buy what you need to get started then no college isn’t necessary
Lmao at 1:20
This was such a helpful breakdown :D gives me a great place to start the slog of organising all my game notes into something useful. Thank you :D XD Its ganna take some time XD
Why is this not having more views? This is a good video. There are many good points about the game industry. Thank you for the video.
design is where i would be if i wasn't anti social code i can't do cos brain isn't wired for decyption of symbols my brain just ignores them.
Subscribing to you for getting some knowhow of game design document, i seriously lack in the skill to write one and I know for a fact that people fail without it,
Can you learn both?
I realiized I am buying to many art assets even before I start a game after watching this.
Nitpick but the battle royale game genre wasn't inspired by Hunger Games it's directly inspired and named after the extremely influential Japanese novel and movie Battle Royale from 1999/2000. Very good film too, I recommend it. Also major influence on games like the Fate/stay night series, Zero Escape series (999, etc.), and The World Ends with You.
Pretty sure Minecraft “Hunger Games” servers were inspired by Hunger Games. Which then inspired PUBG and then rest of the Battle Royale came into the market. Japan’s stuff has nothing to do with this
Your videos are amazing.

Thanks Chris- another excellent video! Would there be anything in the GDD that lays out the order of operations in the studio, i.e. what gets done/made first (map, assets, animation, gameplay mechanics etc.)? Could you point to resources for, or go over the issues regarding that aspect?
Lol i sent my emails four times
It was an interesting video. Very well done. I like the insight on the genre type/gameplay mechanics. It was cool to have done this as a student after working on a project.
I regret not checking the comments first, because I didn't get the document. I feel like I've been phished. >: (

@@GameDesignWithChris Oh, why thank you. : ) I feel a little embarrassed. ^_^;
Main takeaway/self not: YOU CANT DRAW STOP FOCUSING ON GRAPHICS JUST GET CORE MECHANICS WORKING
but I like drawing :(
brother what is your Instagram?
Such an underrated channel.
Beautiful words said for a beautiful game, I love this game so much to me this is the best game I've ever played I can't explain it I just love this game so much it makes me happy when I play.
This helped a lot, thanks
I actually have an idea for a video game tailored to educating children, but with a lot of actual play involved...more of a "learn covertly while playing" scenario, so that it's as fun to play as possible and still have parents fully on board. I don't care about patenting - I just want to see it be made. If anyone in this thread wants to hear the idea, just respond to me with your contact info.
Can you become a game designer with a art degree?
