Blue Marlin On The PLANER???
Offshore trolling with a planer is a very effective way to get a bite out of a number of species, although billfish definitely are not an intended target. I always wondered about how much of a nightmare it would be to deal with a blue marlin slinging a planer around, or if they would even eat a planer bait to begin with. About 20 minutes into our day of fishing, we got a bite that none of us were anticipating, and the next few moments were spent trying to figure out what exactly we were supposed to with that situation!

Caught my first blue this year in the big rock on the free ranger. A marlin is a different beast all together. My fish was 108 inches but fat. It being the first day we didn’t risk the penalty of it being under 400 but it was probably over. Hour and a half fight but man to say I’m addicted would be an understatement.

You guys fish well together, pleasure to watch you fish. Heard you mention river fishing for trout. That’s something you need to experience ONCE to see what shoulder to shoulder fishing is. I’ve done it a few times on Great Lakes tributaries during the spring run. The runs of fish can be good, but the pleasure of enjoying a morning fishing can be lost in the crowd.
I spent many days fishing great lakes tributaries for steelhead and occasionally salmon when I was in school at WVU. Believe there is at least one combat fishing video on my channel if you do some digging!
I have 0 patience with other people. I would have stay a bit far away from the crowds and chum the water a ton to bring the bait to me. The ocean is big enough for everyone. No freakin crowds for me
I have a pair of 8” locking surgical forceps that work well when unhooking big fish in rough water. Once you lock on to the hook, hang on. Often thrashing fish unhook themselves, if not a sharp flip will do the trick. I like the tool you’re using, a little more difficult to work with sometimes.
I miss fishing from my home waters of the Outer Banks. I get to go with My Brother in Law at least twice a year on his 47 Viking though, so that's cool. We go out of Virginia Beach Va.

Nice vid those rays looked horrible. We have a lot of those crabs on the beach in Va. all the old heads call them calico crabs but I’m not sure if they are. when they wash up we will throw them out and we’ve caught striper black drum and red drum with them. Prime bait
