This is incredible brother! Great meeting you here in Maine! I’ll be following along!
Oh, if you haven’t left the state yet, you should pick up a couple bottles of Moxie. One to taste and then throw away, because that crap will kill you, and another to save to show people what NOT to drink when in Maine. There’s even a song about it….”all the girls will think you’re foxy…when you chugalug your Moxie….and show no paaain!” Truly vile stuff. And if it will help restore faith. Almost guaranteed the sushi restaurant wasn’t “Japanese”. Most likely Chinese. For whatever reason the bulk of Japanese that come to the U.S. don’t start businesses. Most are here because their Japan based companies (even if U.S. owned) sent them here for a 2-3 year tour. As always, excellent video.
I've already tried the Moxie... and yeah, it contains a lot of sugar to taste like the Shaklee vitiman company made a Rootbeer.
Hey Chad miss you are work but is great to watch your adventures.
hey, thats my neck of the woods!
So when you're in my home state, take a ride down to Lubec to the West Quaddy lighthouse and to Lubec Brewery. Nice place to go. If you have any issues or need any information. Please let me know.
Would of even better if you showed how to take out the wires - your friendly neighborhood PFC
Would of even better if you showed how to take out the wires - your friendly neighborhood E-4 mafia
I noticed your level bags at 10:15, Any information for those? they look sweet!
They are made by a German company. www.emuk.com/homeEN.aspx
Truck stop sushi? WTF? You know better than that.
Ha, we were just walking sky through the truck stop. The sushi was from an actual sushi restaurant. But at this point I’d probably go for truck stop sushi over that place. :)
Always a good job on your videos, and the cost breakdowns you give are always nice touch.. I stayed at that campground back around ‘15-‘16. Hope you find time for Two Cats restaurant. Biscuits w/strawberry butter will make you see Jesus! 😋
2 cats has been added to the list. :)
Was the breather hose the issue? or any idea what is causing the increased wear on the pinion seals?
No idea at this point. The breathers were clear.
Great video, thanks for sharing! Do you chock your tires and level the truck when at your extended stops (like at 7:23)? Any tips? We have a similar rig but a lot of the chocks aren't rated for the larger tires.
I rarely chock the tires. I have a set of blocks I got from a truck supply company (even though they seem to be the same ones that are sold at harbor freight) I figure something is better than nothing. I do level the truck with EMUK airbags. Usually both on the front or one on the rear and one on the front. (Never both air bags on the rear though)
@@BrokeOverLand Thanks for the update! Those Emuk look to be the best, just expensive. From Globetrekkers site I thought you could get away with just two of the 16 tons ones on the back. Is it less safe to do both rears? Safe travels.
yes, on this truck the park brake is set on the rear tires. if you put them up on bags the truck will shift on the bags.
You ate truckstop sushi????? That's the ultimate adventure.....
lol it was a sushi restaurant. I think truck stop sushi would have been better. :)
Look at you becoming a true East Coaster with your Dunkin’ 😂
I think they put crack in their iced tea. It’s become a bit of a habit now. :)
Great video, it’s good to be reminded that nice people still exist. Did you figure out what was going on with the oil pressure?
Is it just me or did you build the wrong truck for the roads your on and the camping locations you have been?
Correct, The truck is not built for East cost camping. It works but It’s built more for where we normally go out west.
Nice! I had an opportunity to visit the finger lakes this summer, but I passes. I’m regretting the decision now and it’s back on the bucket list. On your battery, have you tried doing a bottom balance? Not sure if it’ll help, but it maybe worth a shot.
I have only top balanced them. They go back into balance while using them. But seem to go out of balance if I use large DC loads while on shore power, like running the DC air conditioning over night. I’ll try cycling the batteries and see what happens.
Popham Beach State Park is a place we visited and I thought would be a cool place to take Serenity...if you get up that far! A LOT less people in Maine!
I’ll check that out
Hopefully you are already in Maine, and up around Rockland. Because if you are, Lobster Fest! Some of the best seafood you can find and the Fest itself was always fun. Headed up or down Route 1, try to plan for a lunch at Moodys Diner in Waldoboro. Good down home style cooking and they’ve got some great moon pies and blueberry pie.
Great shots. Waterfall areas are one of my favorite spots. Hope you guys are having fun!
I stood at that exact sign lol
I use antifreeze in the 14r20 on my m925 5 ton.
Bummer! When you went through Canton and passed the airport you were 5 min from my house. Would have loved to see your rig! Safe travels…
Bloopers are my favorite 🤩
I’m watching this video sitting in our m1079 at a Harvest Host winery in British Columbia.
Cheers!
That shiny truck. (9:24) Usually I am easy about what others chose to do, to each his own, it's not my money, and all that, but I have to admit that left me feeling just a little embarrassed for all truck owners. Even Michael Bay would say, "too much." 🙂
I really wanted to go comb my hair in the reflection as a bit in the video, but I felt that would be rude. :)
Thanks for the intro to Harvest hosts. We’re planning a trip to Colorado in a month and I think I’ll sign up and check them out. Sadly the LMTV is not yet ready, so i’m taking my overland trailer. I will check to see if they allow tent top trailers or is it just for rvs.
Well, I just checked and they don’t allow rooftop tents.
That’s a bummer.
I'm late to this party.... Just removed all the Air over Hydraulic on my m1078... I purchased a pump from one of the online military suppliers. My pump is connected identical to yours. Hand pump to the cylinder, no tank, none of the manifolds, etc. When I lower the cab, the pressure is causing the seals to blow out in the back of the pump and spit expensive aero41 out the back seal. The supplier is saying that the pump seals are failing because i don't have the expansion tank and wasn't designed for this..🤔 My suspicion is that the pump they sell that looks a lot like the power packer, is not an actual power packer pump. Was curious if you have the same issue with your OEM version? In your setup, withe the OEM Power Packer.. are you seeing any issues when the cab 'falls' down? Where hyrdo fluid spits out the back of the pump? Thanks.. and love your channel!
No issues so far and I’ve run it up and down countless times. Who did you get the pump through? The one that is on the truck by default doesn’t have a reservoir the one I bought from power packer does.
As a child my family lived about midway between Buffalo and Rochester. If I remember correctly, this time of year upstate NY is one of the greenest places on Earth. Enjoy the view and I'll follow along, someday I'll make it back around that way.
I have been shocked by the sheer number of waterfalls that are everywhere in upstate New York.
Awesome as usual!
Bit thumbs up on the GoT reference!
Thank you for the long term on those BMS's because I came damn close to buying some of those.
My wife and I took a 6 month road trip across Canada last year, stayed at harvest hosts between national parks, and to split up long drives. We loved it, some great wineries in Quebec if youre there.
That's awesome not only can you get your mammogram but you can also get your cholesterol checked and everything at the same time with that Mammoth pretzel you got
.
Put in a manual gauge 4 now Happy travels
Hey Chad, even when you build is done, I still am making critical notes (for my build) from your cast. Happy to see you keep on tracking safely.
Air moisture will cause the rust. Dryer doesn’t get it all
Only fools buy a vehicle like this.
Awesome to see you guys on the road after such a great build! Best wishes on the travels!
Spruce Pine is my happy place. Welcome to the area! Let me know if you need any tips.
When you get to Acadia check out Thunder Hole if you get the chance. Best time to show up is 1-2 hours before high tide. Its name is appropriate.
Added it to the list
I see you guys met my friend "Sum Ting Wong". In all seriousness though the cat engine would eat itself in about 15 seconds if it had 0 oil pressure. This is the main reason I replaced all of my guages with isspro equivalents because one by one those old crusty military gauges start failing. I am glad to see you did not have to replace your oil pump....yet..... :D
Well you didn’t have an oil idiot light and that comes from a separate sensor, so sounded like the gauge ckt from the beginning. resistance change on the sender with oil pressure change is good, but in the end, the gauge is current driven, so I suspect as you did, a bad connection somewhere between gauge and sender. You can confirm this by stringing out a single wire from gauge to sender and see if that does indeed display correct pressure. you have analog gauges, so you have an analog oil p and engine temp sender down on the engine. There is a connector at the gauge, an intermediary connector P191(pin5) and a P32 connection which I suspect is at the sender on the drivers side of the engine. Both the oilP and temp signals pass thru P191, as does some other stuff like the power for your primary fuel filter bowl heater. It is basically a quick disconnect point if you were swapping out an engine, and I suspect that it is located somewhere along the drivers frame rail. The 3116 has one as well, and I have never located mine:) if you follow the wire from the two senders and the filter bowl heater, you should be able to find it… Its hot and sticky down there, maybe something is chafing… Good luck!
Hey Chad, fellow expedition truck owner here. Your sending unit might have a pressure snubber on it, which can get clogged after normal use causing low pressure readings. Just a suggestion, good luck man 👍
Do you check de nylon hose for obstruction?
I do not have a wiring diagram, so shooting from the hip here. Did you ohm out the sense wire. If it’s loosing resistance when it gets hot might cause your problem. Perhaps run a jumper and bye pass it to test. Those were big pours on the bourbon trail, could help but notice the smiles getting bigger as the video played.
I’ll double check the ohm’s both cold and hot. And yes, thankfully there is a bus service between the distilleries. Probably should have said something about that in the video. :)
@@BrokeOverLand I just assumed Sky drove home
Adept Ape did have also a CAT where the oil pickup was loose.... resulting in mechanical gauge showing ok... but gauge on dash.. nope
Actually on Josh’s video it was showing no pressure on the manual gauge as well. It was getting just enough oil for the HEUI pump to build enough pressure to fire the injectors. This was what made me nervous enough to bring it into a shop.
where did you put the manual oil pressure gauge and how did you plumb/wire it in. Are any fail safes like limp mode suppose to kick on if oil engine oil pressure goes low on engine.... if so and they are not kicking on. ... then maybe knowing that will help you diagnose. Happy that mechanical pressure says your good. PS- check / clean cab ground behind grill.. (easier to just replace it with a different one in a more accessible location.. from what I hear
I’ll double check the ground. For the manual oil pressure gauge, they added a t fitting where the oil pressure sending unit plugs in and capped it when they were done. As for the pump mode. With the 3126 the injectors are fired via high pressure oil. So if there is no oil the engine doesn’t get fuel. Supposedly…
@@BrokeOverLand Good Afternoon Chad......I think I would definitely do an inexpensive "manual" gauge / Performance braided line / right off that "T" they left you, and plumb it up into the cab as a nice Temporary setup for a piece of mind. Just secure it at the Dash in a temp fashion. I would also first try disconnecting that existing dash gauge from the sense wire, and just run a nice 14g wire down to the engine sensor they just installed, and bi-pass the factory harness complete. I have come across some "Dry Wire" on our 2003 M1079A1 actually. Including even the J1939 Network Cable. I plan to completely run a fresh J1939 Cable soon as well. (Include disconnecting the gauge from the ground wire too, up at the dash, if there is one, and giving it it's own ground wire nice and clean too). Even right to a Ground screw, like the one on the CTIS controller / mount bolt. We have been following you "for a while" actually. You will be happy to know you may have caused our own version of "Broke Overland" here.....lol......fun though....we are moving right along with the project. I trouble shoot "Sport Fishing Yacht Systems" for a living actually. Be glad to help out. Good Luck.
I replaced several sending units that had failed, the vibration of the engine destroys the sending unit. When I worked on buses, the sending units were attached by stainless braided hose and attached to the frame with fitting that had mounting ears on it. I think I have one laying around here, if I can find it I will post a picture. Nope, I put it somewhere safe, now I don't remember where that is.
As per the prophecy, it is in a safe place. :)
@@BrokeOverLand you know how I am, old and forgetful.
How did you attach the aluminum to the wood? Is it wood framing?
Several different methods. 1. Use the track in the 8020 2. Panel brackets 3. Hinges 4. Corner brackets screwed into the plywood. All depends on the application.
The 8020 is the framing. The habitat is framed out of steel.
