Mondraker Dune Review: First Time on the Bosch SX
We’re back at it with another lightweight Spanish eMTB - this time, it's the Mondraker Dune RR. The Dune is a long-travel, lightweight eMTB that uses the new Bosch Performance Line SX motor and battery. The Dune uses Mondraker’s Zero Suspension design, a dual-link, virtual pivot style. I’m already seeing the comparison being made to the Unno Ikki. So stick around to see if it’s the right lightweight emTB for you.

Unno Ikki Review: Can you even tell it's an eMTB?

Next up in the review lineup is the Unno Ikki. The Unno Mith was a pretty polarizing topic, apparently. You either loved it or hated it. I’m curious to see what happens with the Ikki. It’s basically the exact same bike except for having a lightweight, reduced power motor and a smaller battery. The geometry, travel, and application are the same. How much different can it actually be? Stick aroun...

Alright, folks, it's a whirlwind week, and today we have the Giant Trance X. It’s new for 2024 with a bit of a departure from the previous version. It’s now quite a bit better on the descents without giving up all that much on the climbs. It’s still quick and sporty, but it packs a bigger punch these days. Listen up, moto heads-we’ve got the Gas Gas ECC6 today. Out of all the bikes I’ve ridden, this one has drawn more attention to itself out on the trails. The Yeti ASR is back for 2024! It’s a fast and light little XC whip with some cool retro styling. We can guarantee it doesn’t ride like an old XC bike, though. Transition Relay Review: Your Only Bike?
The Ikki seems pretty comparable to the Specialized Kenevo SL. Might be a bit quieter than the SL but the weight, power and travel seem comparable.
Having the bars a little high isn’t going to take away front control. Proper shock and fork sag will fix that. Try it, you’ll eventually really like it.
It can lead to less weight on the front wheel which in turn leads to less control and under steer. I run my bars higher than just about everyone I know. Dak might have me beat but not by much. Ha.
I wonder if the unusually short stem could be a factor. I’ve tried and could not make them work for me.
@@Nile49 depending on the bike I’ll run between 35-50. This was within the normal range. The stack height is really high. I think that’s a big part of it.
@@bikersedge did you swap it? Spec sheet says 30mm. Thanks
ALways a good day when Bikers Edge put out a new review! This guy is so chill and the format is excellent, def one of my fav mtb-reviwers!
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.
Would you choose this or the new Orbea Rise ??????
Not sure. I haven’t ridden the rise yet.
very different bikes, I own the Rise but going to switch for the Dune soon
This, with the full powered motor and a 750wh battery
What camera setup are you using now? Good to see something different.
I use the Hero 12 for the POV and a Sony a7sIII for the other stuff.
Over price shit . Better buy dirt bike
I would also really like one of those. The more bikes the merrier.
The trails on your channel look so nice.
We’ve got some goods here in Utah.
Hi I’m riding this ebike too! Just to compare(i’m 210pounds rider) What are your suspension settings? Thks a lot👍🏻
To be honest I set up so many bikes in any given week I can remember what I’ve done for setup. I should be better at writing that stuff down.
This would be a great comparison against the Kenevo, SL. Not necessarily motor power, but ride and descending capability.
We’ve got a lightweight EMTB showdown in the works. We don’t carry specialized though so won’t be able to include the Kenevo.
Thanks for the review. I am hoping to change from a 24kg full power Trail eMTB to either the Dune RR (the spec on this video), or the Cannondale Moterra SL1, in the next few months. My preferential riding terrain is more technical Enduro/downhill. Both bikes are capable, so difficult decision. Moterra is full power, and similar weight. But agility is the No 1 driving factor for me.
Glad you liked it!
Awesome review. Can you confirm if the Bosch SX motor has the same rattle/clunk as the Bosch cx?
Hey, thanks. I didn't notice it much at all on this one. Some bikes accentuate the sound more than others though.
As mentioned it does seem to be bike/individual motor related but others have said its essentially the same as the CX downhill noise wise.
@@Nile49 I really want the dune but the motor clunk/rattle is a real problem for for
@@K1ngJame5-mtb yea a real shame to see new motors that still have this behavior
it does not have any rattle, if anyone claims that, it is false. I had the bike for a full day and heard nothing on the downhill. Uphill it is not the most silent (TQ), but more silent then the EP8(RS)
2:50 thats not how mullets work
It's a really big component of the MX setup. It's not everything, but you're not getting the full handling benefit without it.
@@bikersedge the other way aroud If you want the benefits of a mullet you need larger rear center its needed to transfer more weight to the front tire (the gripy one) otherwise you end up with what you said in the video(traction problems in the rear) You can sea this developement in many DH worldcup bikes, the SC Nomad....
@@harrie205 I mean you’re not wrong with the weight distribution. I’m referring to the quick handling benefits that people are after with an MX setup. That comes from having a shorter overall wheelbase and rear center. I’d imagine getting the balance nailed is the biggest piece of the puzzle.
What's up with every channel just doing ebikes now? Shame
There haven’t been a lot of new pedal bikes released lately. That’s probably why you haven’t seen many lately.
Dont watch then? Ebikes sell like crazy so obviously dealers and manufacturers are loaning them out for reviews. I really don't undertand the hatred for them, it only seems to exist online because on the trails everyone seems to love them.
@@Bueller611 you should come ride in park city then. Haha. There’s plenty of hate for them in some areas around us. I don’t understand the haters. Choose to not ride one if you don’t like them.
@@bikersedge I heard that as well. I saw a lot of that where I ride but it seams to have died off as more and more hit the trails.
@@stevenschiff808 it’s certainly changing but I think there’s still a lot of progress to be made.
Missing XXL with 525 reach
That would be great for the really tall folks.
Any thoughts on how much versatility this gives up vs say the Heckler SL? and then conversely how much do you think the Heckler gives up in capability vs the Dune? Any issues with saddle height in the dropped position? Insertion looks ok on your XL but I am concerned about the size large. Have been waiting for more information on this bike, Thanks!
No problems with dropper height/length for me. I think the Heckler is much more versatile in terms of not dumbing down easier terrain. The Dune is more capable in the rough, but I don't know if it's more capable in the rough than the Heckler is good on the easy stuff.
I think the versatility of the Dune is brilliant for such a big bike. It feels more nimble then the Megatower or the Nukeproof Mega. It even feels more nimble then my own 150/140 Gen1 Rise, which is very odd and very welcome at the same time. Only when you go very slow, you realize that it is not a fun little trail bike. I prefer the Dune over any other bike I have ridden, unless on a flow trail. That said, I've heard from a few people (independently of each other) that the Heckler SL is the best bike in fun factor they have ever ridden, going to test that soon to make up my own mind. These two are also on my short list, together with one bike coming in early July I am not allowed to talk about yet. Guess I'll decide until end of July once I've tested all 3 of them thoroughly
@@Manu_Air228 thanks for sharing. I think this will be my next bike but it’s so hard to pull the trigger given the rate at which the market is changing right now and that these bikes are so expensive and depreciate so fast. I have only parking lot tested the Heckler SL but can reiterate that it’s handling is incredibly natural and regular mtb like. It’s certainly on the shortlist. It does seem like the enduro sl emtb category is ready for new entrants from a number of manufacturers. Heard rumors of a lightweight Rocky which would be interesting to me. Sounds like next year though.
really nice POV. what kind of camera r u using?
GoPro Hero 12. Thanks!
@@bikersedgewith the max lens?
Yup.
Cool looking bike
Agreed.
If you guys are going to sell Mondraker I can't wait to hear your opinion on the Foxy/Raze.
I rode the Foxy briefly earlier this year. Really nice suspension feel like this one. Don’t have enough for a full review though.
Great review bro 👊🏻
Hey thanks!
For XC racing, would you prefer the ASR, Oiz, or BC40?
I’m probably the last guy to ask about XC racing. Not something I’ve done a lot of. The Oiz is the fastest climber of that bunch with the most efficient suspension design though. If the descents are gnarly both the BC40 and the ASR are more forgiving.
One thing I’ve noticed is a smaller bike (I’m 6ft so either a smaller large or a big medium) can be more fun on my local single track where it’s either less demanding or I know the trails better while an XL or bigger large can feel better at bike parks.
Yup. Thats the biggest difference.
Cool
👍
still ripping my X Trance 2, 2021....it can handle downhill quite well...and the rockshox pike that i have i upgraded it to 160mm from 150mm
They should use 7075 alloy rather than 6061 cheap shite
blur tr vs the new Yet ASR? Currently riding a 2017 tallboy and a IBIS DV9. the tallboy is really fun downhill but a bit of a dog uphill. The IBIS is the exact opposite. Looking for the best compromise...a bike that goes uphill quick but feels close to a trail bike when descending but doesn't beat me up.
I don’t know if either of those two will get close to trail bike feeling on the DH. They’re still XC bikes for me. The Ripley could be good. I think the Spur or Element could also fill that spot.
Hi, big thanks for this video!! Im between size L vs XL..my heigt is 185cm...what s your advice?? 👍
I hesitate to give out size advice over the internet. It’s unreliable and a crapshoot at best. My advice would be to try riding each size before buying.
Does the Trance pedal as good as the Anthem? Considering gettint rid of the Anthem and Trance X and just building a Trance.
No it doesn’t. The anthem is much more XC.
Sir what is the headtube angle?
Is the standard Trance also getting redesigned for 2025?
Not sure. Haven’t heard anything.
@@bikersedgealso David Arthur is teasing the new Anthem .
Hey man, is that a bike park by salt lake? I’m planning a trip to Utah and your videos trails look sweet. Any recommendations would be appreciated
Not really a bike park on the traditional sense. It’s a ski resort with a few trails open in the summer PCMR in park city.
Hello Conor, great content, very professional and on point reviews! I have Megatower V1 bumped up to 180mm forkwise it is my do all bike (I climb it regularly 6K-8K v.ft.). Looking for something smaller and poppier as my lokal trail, after work game on bike. I am mostly overbiked so I am looking to the other site of the spectrum to be able to learn how to bike better and transfer my skills to Megatower - my alps slyer. I have Tallboy and 5010 in mind. How do they compare stiff- wise? Do you have any thoughts on the topic? Any recommendations for one over the other? As You can see above I treat myself as a climbing performance limiting factor...xD
Hey thanks! I think the TB would be a great compliment to your mega.
Thoughts on this bike in the Asheville area vs any others that come to mind? Maybe SB140 for the tighter east coast trails you mention?
Haven’t ridden Asheville. From the looks of it some of the trails in the area seem fairly high speed and open. I don’t think you could go wrong with either this or the 140.
Cool dude i like this review no BS ! straight to the point :)
Hey thanks!
Occam LT climb better than a Bronson?
Haven’t ridden the newest Bronson. Wouldn’t be able to say.
Is that the c series or t series? I don’t know which ones better
I honestly think it’s barely matters at the end of the day.
i know it's an xc bike but i feel that for how capable it is downhill the level 2 pot have no place on this thing, shoes do more to slow you down
Would be cool to redo a a review on a coil with a progressive spring.
I’ve done them before in the past.
Which would you take to St George between the Giant, Transition & SC?
Depends on the trail but I’d do the Heckler or Relay for most of the big stuff down there.
@@bikersedge Does your shop have any relay or heckler demos for sale to save a little money?
@@DK-wd8ju it’s definitely worth a call.
I also did the same! Great deal
It’s really an amazing bike so glad I got it setting up. The flight attendant was a little confusing but now works fine.
I prefer coil on my enduro bike cuz i like chatter/rocky trails, for flow i like no suspension
can't unhear the valley gurl vibes
You should have mentioned that you could change the NM on the trance to match the others and the battery would take you further. Nice vid tho
You can de tune any of them for more range.
Hey! Love your channel. How would your rate this bike against the SC HT3? Im undersided on what to go for and we dont have much to demo here in OZ. Thanks
Hey thanks. I think the Instinct is a little less well rounded than the HT3. It’s slacker and easier to get into the travel I think.
I went from a small to a medium and I definitely go faster
When are we going to get a video on the Transition Patrol?!? Love your content! Keep it up
I’m heading to Bellingham this summer. Maybe I’ll see if I can snag one for a bit while I’m there.

Currently trying to decide if my one bike should be the 24 Trance X alloy or the 23 Reign 1 alloy. Real world I ride 95% of the time is natural singletrack, flow trail, 5% local enduro steep and loamy. Think the Trance would be the sensible option but I keep coming back to the Reign. If I did go for the Reign would I regret it as my usual trails are quite mellow just with the odd feature thrown in?
Sounds like your trails would be better on the trance
@@bikersedge thanks for taking the time out to reply. I think you are right. That 24 Trance X in your review looks the business!
what comes to mind for the following: Plush ride to not roast your joints, safe stable down hill, pedals fast when you want to fly on the flowy and flat, capable and confident on technical steep climbs
A lot of those characteristics are contradictory. They’re opposite ends of the same spectrum. The best you’ll be able to do is find something that offers the right balance of all those characteristics and aligns with your riding style.
Occam LT or Trance X
Very different. The LT rides way bigger and harder. Quite a bit slower on the climbs too.
@@bikersedge good point thank you. Struggling with the purple on the x ugh
