"Don't attack it" is what I'd say is the best tip here. Regardless of what the base is or the situation with the caretaker, attacking it is extremely risky. It's the same sort of advice as "murder your darlings". Sure, it is good for drama the first time, but it gets old really quick. There are exceptions of course, like a fortress on the border between two feuding countries. That place would see a lot of action, but it is also EXPECTING a lot of action.

I feel like this is neat, but I am wondering if this is why Legendary Actions exist. Also, sandwiching player and monster actions can work to either increase engagement or just make it take longer before a player gets to take their turn. Another way to tackle lopsided initiative order could be taking a page from PF2e and at the start of combat adding modifiers for Stealth or Perception depending on if one side detected the other first as well adding modifiers for the “posture” of the two groups such as being alert, relaxed, distracted, defender or attacker, etc. Final note, sometimes a well-prepared attack should result in an enemy being quickly overwhelmed, that takes planning and execution outside of the initiative order though. The result should be higher probability for a sweep, if the approach taken is appropriate. An “I go, you go” system removes that tactical possibility.

9:00 Pathfinder 2E's rulebook specifically says that if you don't know the specific rule during gameplay, you should just make a ruling and look it up later. I don't know what's with all the people that think you need to look up the rule on the spot. You can improvise in both games, it's just that PF2E has actual rules for most situations that you can lean on if you wish, while 5E requires a lot of making shit up. As for committing to a specific distance, it's only because PF2E is designed for grid play, while 5E is designed for theatre of the mind (with grid play being a popular variant rule). The distances are rounded to the nearest 5 ft anyway, which is a not-insignificant distance, so it's not really that difficult to estimate. EDIT: I would also argue the mechanical distance between a Long Jump and a High Jump is rather important, since jumping several feet vertically is quite different to jumping a long distance horizontally.

One of our boys in the group recently left the army after a few tours, he has a tendency to take charge in combat despite being basically a ranger waiting to multiclass as a more martial type, sometimes it gets a little tired, but he does put us in pretty solid formations, and him taking charge puts the target on him a lot, so it balances well and we all just roll with it.

I genuinely wish i found this video way way earlier. Not because i hate pf2e (Its literally the first system i DM'd for not counting a one shot for a niche pokemon ttrpg and i find the game super fun with its customization), but because, just by looking at the comments, i would have understood way earlier that the community is a toxic cesspit and deeply hateful towards anything that even so much as dares as to critizise the game they play, and it would have saved me having to sift through hours of texts with pf2e players complaining about 5e players existing just to look at the clarification of a rule. I am being honest when i say that this game is beautiful and that i would recommend it to any dms wanting to get into tabletop, but that its community is as rotten by hatred and disdain as the tf2 community is aganist other hero shooters. Every player can have 2 equipment packs (pre made for adventurers some going for 5 or even 40 GP). Call it "Macks Packs".... Equipment Packs like Dungeoneers Equipment pack or Basic Survival Kit, Forest Explorers Pack, Upper Underdark Explorer, Underground Survival Kit, ect. Then specialist packs like Locksmith, Priest Pack, Entertainers, Mountaineer, Scribe or Spell Casters Kit, Assassin's Kit, Herbalist kit, Diplomats Pack, Sappers Kit, ect. Even Weapon Smith, Medical Kit or Advanced Field Alchemist Kit (probably expensive). So everyone gets 1 survival kit and 1 specialty kit for their profession.

Use find familiar, and summon a fly, or some other small insect. Your familiar can cast range of touch spells. Make your familiar land on a tarrasque. Cast simulacrum from a distance. Cast enlarge/reduce on your terrasque clone. Pet mini terrasque acquired. All shall fear

It may be a very old video, but I cannot believe you said that Archfey warlock has no flavour - you literally have a partron who is a powerful fey. There's so much flavour there with links to fey, Feywild and all sorts of shenanigans and tricky fearies. This is one of the best possible flavourful connection among the warlocks, with so much fun to be had.

I have an alchemist that used filled 2 vials within a glass jar with certain chemicals to create mustard gas. He kept them separate and then when it was time launched the jar via a sling. Made for a nice surprise.

I gave a big boss monster 3 initiatives ,not even full ones, a move or attack on his extra ones, and he had 3 reactions per round, and my party still mopped the floor with him. but they felt the fear for a bit. he cut loose and nearly took out 2 characters in the second round, after the party was obsessing about his second in command with a pair of basilisks throwing poisoned axes and directing care bear stares to petrify characters.

Sometimes the spotlight hog becomes the spotlight hog because other players are too passive in their roleplaying. It's good to pay attention to who's actually speaking up (the spotlight hog) versus the people who look like they want to speak up versus the quiet guys who roleplay the bare minimum.

I had a campaign (Pathfinder) where I did two things I didn't expect to fly. First was hide without cover, technically. See, paying basically a white dragon, and I was sneaking up on one of two scouts in the middle of a blizzard. So visibility is low, auditory (from wind and such) would also be poor, and I'm white on white. Rest of my party, who didn't blend in quite as cleanly, also basically had the "hide everywhere" ability at the end of the day. So I was able to sneak up on them under cover of blizzard. I slit his throat. He died instantly. Was not expecting that. Because of blizzard conditions, his buddy didn't notice. He died next. We then stumbled upon their camp, and we were sneaking around under cover of blizzard killing them left and right until one of them finally saw us. My buddy did an intimidation check (described as licking his bloody dagger and pointing at the guy). Last guy alive did finally spot us, so he got his full allotment of hit points, but for as strong as they were supposed to be they still weren't designed for a 1v5 battle. After all that, another scout party returned from a different direction and spotted one of the characters. Buddy rolled an intimidation check, described like, "Yeah, I did this; what'cha gonna do about it?" Scouts didn't run away, but just veered to the side and kept on going right past the encampment. I did lay an argument to why I should be able to stealth due to the blizzard conditions, but I did not expect the throat slit to grant instant defeat. But once it was allowed, we slaughtered an entire encampment with nary a hit point in sight. That's also the day I first hear the term: "Murder Hobo."

The instant fortress reminds me of fighting the US army! Enemy does not engage when USA advanced hardware is on the field. The bad guys simply wait to ambush them in the morning. They have to come out. My group has become SLOPPY thinking they are immune to enemy action. Not even a watch anymore. A finger in the arrow slot. FIREBALL!!!!! Double damage because of compression. YE OUCH!!!

Excellent video! And I feel like a lot of the pathfinder encounters. If you don’t play to the utmost efficiency all the time you could have a TPK! We’re going through the Mammoth Lords campaign and it just feels like every fight since we started the second book is like an epic level boss fight, when we fought the chimera…. it had a 5% chance to miss me a 45% chance to hit me and a 50% chance to quit me…. Those are just not great odds.😮

Please someone see this and reply! Im a new DM, TL;DR How do I dish out gear early on? The players were sucked into a story book leaving all but their clothes behind. Upon escaping the book they land in a magical library thats been closed for some time. This becomes the player hub but how could i give the players some gear fitting the situation? I thought about whatever they find in the lost and found and a small coin purse of 50 silver but not sure what items they may find. Lastly i thought the starter kits where weird to start off with when unexpectedly adventuring and the players are lvl 3 a fighter and a druid.

I once played a game where the guy was like some shadow dude with an AC of like 25 at lvl 2. I once played in a game where a dude was fudging his rolls, even in character creation, after the game i approached the DM and was like, “hey i hate to be that guy but so-and-so has fudged a couple rolls and made up fake rolls for his stat line.” The DM was fine with it, I never went back to the group.

Correction for the vorpal sword: Legendairy action = 6d8 extra damages instead of head cut off. Give legendairy actions and resistances to your fighters. They are now immune to that instakill bs.

When I was younger (like early middle teens) I was a kid who would cheat rolls in dnd and it was mostly because of my perception of the game. At the time it wasn't a storytelling game to me and it was primarily me running around punching stuff and if that failed then there wasnt really a point in playing. So I often tried to fudge rolls or something along those lines. If I had a cheater in my games today, which I dont since most of my groups are all interested in storytelling, I would push them to embrace the story or find a new way to enjoy failure via a nat 1 or something. Its definitely a different and maybe difficult way to address the issue cause that took me years but if I had just gotten a reminder from time to time my early times in DnD would probably have been better.
