I believe there could be other possible theories as well. For example, what if the scriptural teachings of the creation are at least partially symbolic? It could be that the creation accounts in scripture are meant to help us understand important spiritual truths, even if not every single thing is to be taken absolutely literally. Another possibility is that the Earth is actually ancient, and that a lot of things occurred on under the direction of God for many eons before God placed man on the Earth in another creative phase. What if, some things that are labeled as “evolution“ did take place, but were Separate and distinct from other creative acts in which God engaged to intentionally bring man to the earth? So often there seems to be an either or presentation… What if it was both? Both things occurring on the earth that science today has labeled as “evolution.“ And God directing other creative acts separate. Years ago, I completed a year of PhD studies in neuropharmacology and remember working in a laboratory and thinking how interesting it was that a scientists can use their knowledge of what they labeled “evolution“ (such as an understanding of the natural mutation processes that occur in DNA) to intentionally direct specific and desired outcomes in a laboratory setting such as inserting foreign genes into cells that you are studying, etc. This is accomplished by understanding the process and natural function of the cell. Science might include these processes as “evidences of evolution” even though an intelligent human being can take advantage of their knowledge of those principles to cause a desired outcome. One place that I think science goes wrong is assuming that everything in science has to occur without the creative oversight of a God. I know for a fact that humans who know a lot less than God does utilize their rudimentary knowledge of scientific principles to cause all sorts of predetermined outcomes in laboratory settings all the time. That makes me think that it should be no stretch to believe that God could utilize an infinite and perfect knowledge of law that we can’t even begin to comprehend, but very real cause whatever outcome he would like to… And we wouldn’t necessarily even be able to understand it because we don’t possess that higher level knowledge and understanding of those laws… Yet. For the record, I tend to believe that man is the literal direct creation and spiritual offspring of God. And that if there was any kind of separate evolutionary process going on on the earth, it was either under the direction of God or allowed by God, in addition to his own directed creative efforts.

I like these a lot. My wife and I both have bachelors degrees in neuroscience. We love science, and we love our faith! And we both feel very comfortable that gospel truths are true. Even when we don’t fully understand how they harmonize… yet. We fully believe that, eventually, everything will be harmonious. Some “truths“ of science will fall away, Others will be added, and things that we thought we understood about the gospel will be expanded in majestic and very encompassing ways. At our house, we often talk about how excited we are to take “Creation 101“ and “Real World History 101.”

So many temples announced in recent years... To help the work go forward We need to be faithful in paying our tithing and our fast offerings. We as members also need to pray for the temples in the announced areas that they might have any opposition removed, and a spirit of peace prevade, and that the temples will be built quickly. We can do much through prayer, service, and donating rather than just "waiting" for the temples to be built. And most importantly we need to attend the temples and strive to fully live up to the covenants that we make in those temples. Then will the blessings of "great power and glory" be poured out upon the Saints and the Temples will fulfill their purpose.

How sad that you with such knowledge would lay on that mother and that girl a reality. The reality is many people who go to the temple for the first time and maybe be because so many LDS Molly‘s are afraid to talk openly honestly lovingly and respectfully about what goes on in the temple, there are unable to be prepared or to prepare someone they love for the strange experience. It is a strange experience. I did not have that problem with my daughter because she knew all about it. She had a mother who had a temple recommend all her growing up life. I spoke about it, openly her daughter and explain things, however, there was a time and this could have been than it was. There was a time to very wonderful priesthood holders, took their families to the temple for the first time. I had already been to the temple as a single parent for many years when I saw them standing out in the parking lot and heard them talking about how they felt About the Temple clothing and everything that went on in the temple I went up to them and I said Pete Charlie it’s OK to laugh go ahead laugh. It is strange and we talked about it. They did laugh and even giggle grown men kind of giggled. I brought up about my father being a fourth-degree knights of Columbus member my uncle Lee being a Mason, and we spoke about us being latter-day Saints with the privilege of being able to go to the temple and once that initial feeling of shame, embarrassment, and feeling uncomfortable because oh boy, I must not be a good enough priesthood holder I must not have been prepared enough because I feel this is really strange and I don’t know if I can do this again Once that was over with and they understood it’s OK to giggle a little bit. Find the relief breathe and then look for the blessings and symbolism the great and wonderful symbolism of what we do in the temple. It’s more than 40 years since they are still alive, their families are still together. Their children have gone on missions. And I believe, helping them understand that it was OK to feel uncomfortable and yes, it is strange once we get past that the beauty becomes a parent. And I think that’s probably what that mother was trying to help her daughter get through and did you get the other part of the story? Which could’ve been the daughter was very relieved and happy that her mother had shared that and she understood it. God passed it and the temple. Her first temple experience might have been a very beautiful one because the mother prepared her. You’re welcome to answer me back. If you could find my Google account.

This is a pretty cool thing to consider: Moshia is in the Hebrew Masoretic Text, but Joseph Smith at 23, did not know this language. And so "Moshia", the Hiphil Participle of yāšaʿ (יָשַׁע) "save" is happening in this text - the very text that demonstrates this manner of saving, as stated in the podcast. The word play is abundant in the Book of Mormon text.

Genesis is real history. The theory of evolution is a false theory. But those in control of academic, media and the establishment teach evolution as if it were proven fact. They have a subversive agenda to destroy faith in God and in the Scriptures in the public, so that we will be easier to be enslaved, to fall for socialism, communism and dictators.

I have been to the Smithsonian Institute and no less than 13 major Universities and I have seen "so called" Dinosaur Exhibits where, without exception the dinosaur displays do not contain a SINGLE authentic REAL calcium, organic bone within the exhibit. The more than a dozen "official" dinosaur exhibits are 100% filled with plaster composites as replacements for the supposed bones that are deposited in a vault somewhere off premesis. Dinosaurs, if real somehow, are NOT what we are viewing in the museum exhibits....I call that a HOAX.

As a biologist and previously in academia I truly believe that you are mistaken in your judgement. My fellow biologists simply extended their understanding of genetics to believe in an extended form of genetics called evolution. Gradually many scientists are discovering their error but most still holding fast. These are not evil people, just ill informed.

Mitch Hedberg (a comedian) talked about the beer commercial-type advertising, “You know when you see an advertisement for a casino, and they have a picture of a guy winning money? That’s false advertising, because that happens the least. That’s like if you’re advertising a hamburger, they could show a guy choking. “This is what happened once.””

Thank you Brother Dunford for sharing your faith with us. I have pondered over this topic many times seeking for insight and understanding. Whenever we approach these types of topics I use this truth as my guiding star: (1) God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, the greatest in all things, meaning the One Who Knows the most about any given topic, including science. He is the Best! (2) I watched a Nova Special that was absolutely fascinating! It focused on string theory and I felt enlightened, joyful and inspired to say within myself on occasion as I was watching, "THIS explains how God could have created the earth and all things within it." (3) In pondering the scripture about the earth receiving it's paradisical glory, I was led to a news article 45+/- years ago that explained that the Earth's surface already contains 98% of what is needed to make glass. It's fascinating to ponder on the fact that God has already thought of everything. Add some heat and, "Voila! You've got a sea of glass." For me, it comes down to trusting God first and the most. He is God. The rest will be revealed in due time. I have wondered if the dinosaurs met their demise when Adam fell, and the earth fell as well to another dimension that upset the living conditions the dinosaurs were used to. I came across a scripture the other day that said God protected the people from the giants in the land. One day we'll know all of the mysteries of God. Today is not that day and it's okay! Don't lose faith in God bc you don't know all the answers right now. Exercise FAITH in Christ.

I don’t see anything righteous about Zeniff . King. Mosiah left the land to avoid falling into the hands of the. Lamanites . Why would anyone want to go back to that land of Nephi? Zeniff Not only had half of us people killed because he was so Overzealous. And then he brought his people into bondage.

I see what you’re saying. In Joseph Spencer’s newest book he suggests Mormon depicts Zeniff sort of as a counterfeit Nephi (we’re missing the first part of Mosiah so it is tough to know). But his controversial opinion (let’s not slaughter the Lamanites) should count for something. Apparently many Nephites thought nothing of killing of a colony or so. It is tough to say… since it was the Nephites land to begin with. I got from the vid that Zeniff ran into the great and spacious building without seeing the 2x4s in the foundation. His life is certainly a warning to all of us. A warning you seem to be tracking! Good luck my friend.

I must confess that my own theory, though less complicated, sits better with me. Although, much like Elder Henry B. Eyring's father, I too believe that True Religion will always agree with True Science, because Truth is Truth regardless of which angle you look at it. . . . if not, then its merely still just a theory. I theorise that the 7days of creation weren't yet set in "time" as we know it today, i.e 1000 years of our time to 1 day of God's time . . . but rather, I think the 7 "days" of creation were simply periods of time wherein a specific creation work took place. . . . so the days could have varied in length, and could have been as many as millions of years in our time which were reackoned as a "day of creation". Also, no one knows how long Adam and Eve dwelt in the Garden of Eden before they were cast out, which only then kick started the clock on time as we know it. Thus, these factors could account for fossils carbon dating to millions of years ago, rather than just the seven thousand years we believe the earth to be in existance. Those seven thousand years could be a measure of the age of the earth only from the time that Adam and Eve were cast out of Eden, just like Christians began to recon their time from the birth of Christ, another notible event in the history of the earth. . . . this sounds more plausible to me, because we say the Jesus Christ came in the Meridian of "Time" . . .If we believe we are nearing the end of days, then time must have been started with the fall of Adam and Eve since we are now only 2000 years since the birth of Christ . . . the other half of time on earth. As far as Dinosaur bones being discovered, an alternate theory I have is that, as we know, matter can neither be created nor destroyed, and thus, when God created the earth, He did so by gathering matter that already existed. We often hear of planets or stars that burned out millions of years ago, thus the matter that He gathered could have been from similar planets that were already eons old . . .and within that matter may have already existed the fossils, or bones of dinosaurs which had existed on other earths. So in theory, dinosaurs may never even have lived on our earth, but simply could have caught a ride in the matter that was used in the creation of our earth. But as you said, Im no expert or official mouth piece either 😊 This all said . . . "Frequency" is definitely among my favourite movies of all time🤗

These were both my top two theories as well. But I certainly do not rule out more complicated models such as Bryce mentions. After all, the phenomenal complexities found in the inner workings of the cell we are still trying to understand, as well as many other mysteries. I wonder if given knowledge of these mysteries of creation will either cause someone to stumble from too much information, or cause someone to have too much certain knowledge which will not require faith. In essence, letting the cat out of the bag. Someday we will all find out.
