On the 10th July 2023, Iceland's latest volcanic eruption started at the Litli-Hrútur mountain in the Fagradalsfjall area of Reykjanes Peninsula. On the 12th July 2023, I, along with my good friend Dave Nelson, visited the eruption, spending just over four hours between 9pm-1am there. I hope you enjoy the video of the footage captured on my DJi Mini 3 Pro drone. Please Note: All the lava sounds...

Using my Canon 24mm tilt shift lens in the snow in Slovenia
zhlédnutí 392Před rokem
While out in Slovenia during January 2023, a heavy bout of snow arrived so I ventured out to Jamnik to photograph the iconic church. Due to the undulating terrain, photographing two beautiful trees had its challenges and in this video, I explain how I used the shift technique on my Canon TS-E24mm lens to capture two beautiful trees. I love my Canon 24mm tilt shift lens and it often allows me to...
Pitigliano, Tuscany, Italy
zhlédnutí 619Před rokem
As the sun fell, and the blue hour started, the gorgeous town of Pitigliano in Tuscany, Italy came alive. The town's lights illuminated and filled the streets with a soft, warm, golden light that when viewed from above, looked stunning. I love this perspective of this town, which is quite easily one of my favourites in Tuscany. Tuscany Photography Workshops & Tours melvinnicholsonphotography.co...

Driving Through Lofoten, Norway

Here's a short muted video of my dashcam footage of me driving from somewhere near Ramberg to Reine in Lofoten, Norway back in February 2020. This part of the world is exceptionally beautiful and I thought that people might like to see the views along the way. I hope you enjoy it.

This is a short video unboxing my latest purchase, the Arca Swiss D4 Geared Tripod Head Classic. I mount it to my Benro TMA48XCL tripod and demonstrate how it works. There is also a fliplock version available but I was recommended the traditional classic knob locking device system and it appears to be a good choice. If you have any questions, please let me know. zhlédnutí 3,3KPřed 5 lety
In February 2019, I spent a week photographing Lofoten in the depth of winter. In this video, I visit the stunning iconic locations of Hamnoy, Reine and Fredvang. I explain how I compose the photos that I take in the video as well as show you the final images taken, the equipment and camera settings used. I also offer up a few tips and tricks to help you improve your landscape photography too. ...
Nice winter shot of Reine!
Just happened on your page and I'm really enjoying watching your videos. They're excellent. Subscribed!
Thank you very much for commenting. I appreciate it. Glad to hear that you're enjoying the videos. I have more planned in the future. Have a great day.
Thanks for the Video, it helped a lot. Which tripod do you use? Thx
Hi Eddy. Many thanks for your kind comment. I use a set of Benro Mach3 TMA48CXL legs which are now married to an Arca Swiss D4 Geared Head. I no longer own the Edelkrone equipment as my photography has taken a slightly different turn but it is quality kit.
@@melvinnicholsonphotographycom Thank you very much, that helped a lot ;). Greetz
@@EddytheGun You're very welcome Eddy. Have a great day :-)
Impressive vlog Melvin - nearly 6 years since I was there - must get back soon
Thank you very much Gordon. Lofoten and Norway in general is a stunning place and one that I always love to revisit. I hope that you manage to return soon :-)
@@melvinnicholsonphotographycom Hopefully I can combine a visit to Lofoten with a trip to Iceland next February !
@@gordondryden6266 Now that sounds like a great plan Gordon :-)
Wow, love this episode! Such a beautiful place and epic footage mate!
Thank you very much Jason. Lofoten is awesome in the winter. Such a beautiful place 😊
the smaller dovetail is for the "mono ball fix" plates, AND arca-Swiss Monorails (the bar on the LF cameras, tech. name "optical bench"); the wide side is for standard fit or "classic" plates; CAN'T confuse these, the large classic plate is OFFSET i.e. 2/3 of the plate rest on the "loose jaw" of the clamp, the other 1/3 on the fixed jaw on the head (and very precise tolerances), so only their plates work!!- not like the sirui and Gitzo, etc. arca compatible plates! ( there is a silver thumb knob inside the QR plate base, this has LIMITED tension adjustment, can't fit this to EVERY plate manufacturer, choose one and set the knob and stick to this brand).
Excellent taste of Iceland with a great soundtrack. I’ve stood by those falls looking at the Holy Mountain. Amazing viewpoint.
Superb locations and very informative. Sounds like you have to go with the flow with the weather conditions. The random landslide story made me smile.
Cheers Chris. You'll absolutely love it when you eventually visit. As for the landslide/avalanche, thank heavens that I wasn't on the wrong side of it or I would have been stranded there for 24 hours, lol.
A true Photographer with cable release instead of all this 2 seconds delay crap and you can of course watch the unfolding image and press at the correct time without camera shake
like it but then realised the knobs have rubber on .. i havnt had a tripod head that rubber lasts ,achilles heel was hoping they were knurled ,
cheers buddy . cant i take a grinder to my manfrotto base 😁😁😁
lose the rubber bits on the knobs id buy one .. never had a rubber gripped knob that hasnt stretched . loosened or come away. get propper KNURLED knobs on il have one
I WILL have one! Thanks for the rundown! Very well done.
Hi Melvin, is it a restlyng version of D4? On website www.arca-shop.de/en/tripod-heads/gearheads/d4-series/d4/775/d4-classic?c=441, D4 doesn't have a numbered scale under the clamp. Thanks. Giorgio.
Beautifully put together Melvin
What on earth are these two old blokes going on about......lol Great Q&A
Thanks for sharing! did you got the chance to use it compare to the arca cube?
Hi Melvin, what is the Garmin device shown at the bottom. I really loved my visit there a couple of years and I remember that road well, albeit with less snow!
The close-up segment at the end can stand on its own. Wonderfully effective.
OMG THANKS!
cost more than a fuji lense, that's actually hilarious
Thank you, very useful.
Around every corner is a photograph
What do you think of the head so far?
Absolutely beautiful work melvin and some great advice :)
What do you think about the D4 versus the P0 hybrid? It’s a ball head that also has gearing for fine tune
I have a d500 and it doesn't want to fit can someone help me
Hi Melissa. What seems to be the issue? Which tripod head have you bought to fit onto this tripod?
Hi Guys well done, your delivery and presentation came across in a very relaxed and succinct manner, well done once again. I got up at 4.30 this morning and thought what will i watch then I remembered your email, Ive watched it from start to finish. I would say more for your own sanity, I might be inclined to do them regular fortnightly, with a 45minute time slots, like Tony said it was a longtime, I would have watched it until the cows come home.
Great vid lads!
1:05:42 - I can back up what Tony is saying here, as someone who has been on his workshop to Northumberland we were all given a little challenge to create a detailed shot and I struggled with it, I do have a lot of respect for detailed photographers now!
It's a really hard thing to do well, but great practice for training our eyes!
A lot of people struggle with detail work Justin. I guess that is why you do not see very many photographers do it. David Ward is a master at it. www.into-the-light.com/
Thanks for answering my question fellas. Chuffed to bits and great answers from both of you. Please do keep safe and well. All the best.
Thank you guys. Even if my printing question sent Tony to sleep 😂😂😂
About time for another video Melvin!! ;)
Great. glad its on CZcams mate
A pleasure to do this mate!
Woohoo first question, looking forward to watching this!
I hope you enjoy it Justin and many thanks for asking the first question.
Excellent as usual Melvin. Great photography and video presentation. Good comedian too!! ;)
Thank you Steve. That's very kind of you to say. I shall look to creating more vlog content over the summer months. Stay safe and sane Steve :-)
Thanks, Melvin, As far as I am concerned you are the best photographer by far on CZcams. Look forward to your new videos. Too late for the sane bit!! Take care matey!!
@@stevemack60 You're too kind Steve. Thank you very much indeed. No pressure on me then, lol. As for the sane bit, I became a lost cause a few years ago when I spent three years training to become a nurse, ha. ha. Take care too Steve and see you on the other side :-)
@@melvinnicholsonphotographycom Hey Melvin, really great content and enthusiasm with your presentation. Which month would you recommend for photography in Lofoten?
Excellent explanations!
Bonjour, thanks a lot too.
Thanks for the info. Im assuming thats your photo in the background. Ive seen it with an article posted on Facebook. Nice shot and thanks for the review 👍
Hi Mike. Yes that's my pride and joy in the background. My one in a million photo. It's certainly done and still doing the rounds on the intermet. Right place, right time and a fair bit of luck involved 😁
@@melvinnicholsonphotographycom Very cool. I think i first seen it last winter and then it went around this winter too. Maybe it will be revived and relived for winters to come. Its a great photo. Id be proud of it too. The winters are long here and i loose hope of doing much photography but this inspires me to want to get back out there again. Lol
Nice to meet you in Leknes the other day. Enjoy your videos. love the laughter! cheers, Colin
Hey Colin. It was great to meet you too, however briefly. I hope you had a wonderful time in Lofoten. It's one hell of a place isn't it? Have a great 2020 and I hope that you have many more trips planned. Until next time, continued happy discovering :-)
Oooh what a beautiful place!!
Cool buddy
I remember seeing shots from this trip on your Instagram. What an incredible place and those conditions! 👌 Brilliant video!
Thank you Stephen. Lofoten in the winter is something else and I was so blessed with amazing conditions and of course plenty of snow too. I returned recently (Feb 2020) and even saw the northern lights. I was overjoyed :-)
Melvin Nicholson Photography Sounds like heaven!
Beautiful images. And you explain well the former use of the site. Thank you very much.
What plate(s) are you using with Arca Swiss D4? Have you had any trouble with an L-bracket plate interfering with tethering or movement of the rear LCD on your EOS-R?
sunwayfoto gh-pro is better in my opinion
got any videos using it yet?
Hi Melvin - I have just come across your video (perfect timing) as I have been researching this particular head. I will be wanting to use this head for producing panoramic images, but I have an information gap that needs addressing. | am having great difficulty establishing if the head rotates above the tripod centre - to explain: I am not so much worried about the fore/aft movement as that can be dealt with by the nodal rail adjusting the NPP point on the lens - but it is imortant (at least according to my research) to have the head centered on the left/right axis in order to give the stiching program the best chance of success. Can this head accommodate this?
HI Mel, is there a spirit level bubble on the head to help you set up for panorama shots?
