Warren Dunes: Glamping with my girl
Glamping may not be the correct word for this adventure, but I took along a few luxury items to make my time in this park feel more like home.I skipped the long hikes and rehydrated backpacking food and replaced it with cast iron skillet meals and skewered ribeye.
Along Michigan's West coast you will find this park. The beautiful sunset along the water cast a deep orange glow on the dunes as the moon dropped behind them in the background. It was the perfect scene to spend a couple of days with my littlest girl.

My son's first backcountry expedition! Mirror Lake and Crater Lake near Lake Granby, Colorado
zhlédnutí 293Před rokem
Greyson, my 5 year old son, went on his first backpacking trip this summer. He hiked like a champ despite his brief bout with the altitude sickness. This was my brother's first trip too and it was fun to watch him and Greyson experience one of my favorite activities together.
Escalante-Grand Staircase via Boulder Mail Trail

Our trip this year takes us to the American Southwest as my crew and I travel through Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, and Escalante-Grand Staircase via the Boulder Mail trail. We had incredible views and weather on this trip. Canyon hiking is a new and fun type of hike to me. The canyon walls towered over us as we hiked through an ecosystem nestled close to the banks of the Escalante River.
REI Tent Review: Half Dome 2 plus

Hummingbird Hammock Review: Light and Luxurious
zhlédnutí 1,4KPřed 2 lety
As the name suggests, this hammock is as light as a hummingbird. It is compact and lightweight making it perfect for an addition to most packs. I am not an "ultralight" backpacker, but I do like to limit weight when I can. This item lets me have a comfy place to chill for about 8 ounces between the hammock and the pack. As a 220 lb guy, this hammock held up well for my large frame.

Bishop's Pass 15 Sleeping Bag Review

I am excited for this video. Without a doubt, this is the best bag I have ever tested. It has a great fit and great loft in the down. However, I do not find a 15 degree sleeping bag useful. I am gearing for the PCT 2024 and choose the Bishop Pass 15. I will make a decision on warmth the first days out of Kennedy Meadows. I think it will be prefect and your review eased my doubts on warmth. I thought maybe it might be lacking for mid June on the PCT. I have one of these tents, and coming back from photographing the last full eclipse of the Sun, I stopped at Yosemite, found a nice camp site and set up the tent. I went for a drive through the park, and heard thunder from where I had set up camp. When I returned, I saw my campsite had been inundated, and the water had reached almost to the lip of the bath tub of the tent. My pack, and my sleeping bag and other stuff I tossed into the tent were completely dry, though I had only roughly thrown the tent together. It is a fantastic car packing tent, but have not yet packed it into back country.

    Question to those in the comment section: How is this a GREAT review of a specific bag?

    • @sciotoriverco-op6358
      @sciotoriverco-op6358 Před rokem

      It probably isn’t a “great” review. I am guessing that people are being polite when they say those things. However, I try and tell people how my experience with the bag went during a backcountry experience. My sister is extremely sensitive to cold temperatures so I think she embodies an anxiety many people have while diving into the unpredictable backcountry elements. Can I stay warm if I must? I think we used the gear, shared our thoughts, and had fun while doing so.

I wonder because both my pads are thick and I'm trying to see if these are rally long enough for me. Does it appear to be under 7' long when measured 4" high due to the sloped sides of the tent? nearly 2 years later, this video was super helpful for me in my decision making on which tripod to purchase. Carbon fiber or aluminum - I'd watched one too many videos on the topic! Ended up "settling" on the aluminum one. Peak Design just recently hiked the price up on each of these models. The AL version is now $370, and the CF is $650. I was able to find a brand new AL one for $300, cheapest new CF was the $650... A bit lighter, a bit stiffer, sure. $350 better? eh. I'm typically a "buy once, cry once" guy, but really had to consider how often I use a tripod. I suppose if I use the aluminum version a lot, I could eventually consider grabbing the carbon fiber version in time. Appreciate the video!
