Exploring the Wonders of Elderflowers
Exploring the Wonders of Elderflowers
**Introduction:**
Welcome to the enchanting world of elderflowers, where nature's beauty meets culinary and medicinal wonders. In this exploration, we will delve into the secrets of the elderflower plant - its history, uses, and the magical lore surrounding it.
**1. The Elderflower Plant:**
The elderflower, scientifically known as Sambucus nigra, is a deciduous shrub native to Europe, North Africa, and Western Asia. This versatile plant can grow up to 10 meters in height and is characterized by its creamy-white, aromatic flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer.
**2. Culinary Delights:**
Elderflowers have long been cherished for their culinary uses. The delicate flowers are prized for their sweet, floral aroma and are commonly used in the kitchen to infuse beverages, desserts, and jams with their unique flavor. Elderflower cordial, made by steeping the flowers in sugar and water, is a popular and refreshing drink enjoyed during the summer months.
**3. Medicinal Properties:**
In addition to their culinary uses, elderflowers are treasured for their medicinal properties. Rich in antioxidants and vitamins, elderflowers have been traditionally used to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, and alleviate symptoms of colds and flu. Elderflower tea is a soothing remedy known for its ability to relieve congestion and promote relaxation.
**4. Foraging Tips:**
Foraging for elderflowers can be a rewarding experience, but it's essential to do so responsibly. When harvesting elderflowers, be sure to positively identify the plant to avoid confusion with similar-looking species. Choose flowers that are fully open and fragrant for the best flavor and potency.
**5. Magical Lore:**
In folklore and tradition, elderflowers have a mystical reputation. Thought to possess protective qualities, elderflowers were often planted near homes to ward off evil spirits. In some cultures, elderflowers were believed to be the domain of fairies and spirits of the forest, adding an element of enchantment to their presence.
**6. Recipes and Creations:**
The versatility of elderflowers extends to a myriad of creations in the kitchen. From elderflower-infused syrups and cocktails to elderflower fritters and sorbets, there are endless ways to incorporate the delicate flavor of elderflowers into your culinary repertoire. Experiment with different recipes and discover the magic of elderflowers in your cooking.
**7. Conclusion:**
As we conclude our journey into the world of elderflowers, we are reminded of the beauty and bounty that nature provides. Whether enjoyed for their culinary delights, medicinal benefits, or mystical allure, elderflowers continue to captivate and inspire those who seek to connect with the natural world.
**Closing:**

In icy depths, a baptism pure, A plunge into the depths obscure, Where frigid waters cleanse the soul, And whispers of the ...

Me likes!!!
Nice Top Brother! I am so tired of these camo freaks!
That's not a tautline, which is a good thing. It is an adjustable grip hitch, which is actually better. The cow hitch is not very reliable and may slip depending on how hard-laid or soft-laid the various materials are. The pole size is about half the width of the tarp, so 1.5 meters or 4'11" in this case. Excellent setup for open/warm or closed down for bad weather.
Thanx for Sharing
Why do so many youtubers neglect to measure their equipment and supplies before they record their videos? Five minutes of preparation before you start recording would make a much more professional looking video
Good setup. 👍 It's the JJ style shelter II: czcams.com/video/ETfRihB01LI/video.html&ab_channel=JJsupervivencia
I saw a guy doing this and he intended to be right near a tree right when you start just so that you can use the tree to tie your rope.
Just came across your channel. Really enjoyable and I'll be trying this setup this weekend. It looks really good
Всё гениальное - просто !!!
great video keep up the great work Sir love it
Thank you for the training. Like you, I like to clear the area where I’ll be sleeping and sitting. That job goes better if I use the side edge of a trowel or shovel to scrape debris back out of the area. Stones, sticks, acorns, pine cones, pull tabs, broken glass, etc etc. The edge of a tool does a nice job of gathering and moving out the junk. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Thanks for teaching goods .greetings from Turkey ❤
Our pleasure!
I tried out that setup some weeks ago and it works just fine. Especially if you attach your guyline up on on a tree rather than on a walking pole.
It reminds me of a ship's prow.
Best set up ever! Thanks
Your the third person to show this tarp setup, wildbeare showed it but gave credit to another. But this one's great and remains in my reportoire with a 3 m x 3 m tarp.
Is this race the 7 valleys ultra
It’s just called the lakes in a day.
Slaughter to prevail mask? lol legit
Seen this a few times recently. Seems like a great set up, definitely will be trying this.
What a brilliant short documentary film, Dan! Fair play to you, a real inspiration! Also just to add; what a brave soul you are, being as vulnerable as you were here and in the interview part of this video ❤ you're an amazing being buddy
Thanks
Love this Dan! So, so good. What an experience 🤙 big love 💕
I couldn’t have done it with out you guys and girls! Always grateful for tribe. ❤
What an experience this was dude! Amazing to see you cross that finishing point and being surrounded by those who love you! Incredible story
Yes! Absolutely phenomenal. Super proud of you brother! Kudos to Dan for the documentary, he captured it fantastically 🩵
this is the one I was looking for! thank you!
You're welcome!
Best I have seen.
Have you ran those races before? I ran a marathon in 2015 with no training and finished but it was rough
I have run them before but this one I didn’t train for it. So no special training 6 months prior
If I was to use a 4x4 tarp would that be big enough to sleep two on this set up?
Cosy camp
Now we are talking . Poetry for the eyes and ears .
I love the ritual of gathering wood , lighting a good fire and cooking outdoors alone . I have the same grill and it adds such artisan theatre and olde world primitivism to a day/ night out . Great video .
Brilliant bro' thanks. Not sure I've seen that set up before. Got a woodland camp with a scout troop soon. Was going to use my Finish Loue shelter. Your DD shelter means I can travel lighter.
Modified PLOUGH configuration.......
Mate that was absolutely beautiful, nothing short of epic. What amazing mist 💜
Looks like a modified flying diamond
Sounds cracking ,guna try this at home first impress our lass lol 👍
Great vid, awesome pitch. Sub'd
It's everywhere too!
Another great video ❤
Great video and superb information😊
🇬🇧 (Translation) Thank you for your video, your basic setup is very close to the ideal. A tree, another pole and two or three pegs will always provide enough attachment points for a minimal tent construction in which it is comfortable to sit upright. What is attached to it as tarpaulins(!) depends on the weather and weight or simply arises from one's own imagination & needs or what is found on the spot. Protection from rain, wind, foreign s😉ight, insects and strong sunlight can be achieved with classic (tent) tarpaulins, foils, blankets, mosquito nets and fabrics of all kinds, which retain their practical properties for their actual purposes. The lighter (and the thinner) this "outer skin" is, the more of it you can take with you, which means "more living space". The many gaps in the structure allow ventilation and a view to the outside. With a rope and a walking stick as well as a small shovel that can also be used as a ground anchor and barbecue skewers, you already create the basis for your house, which can be made homely with a rain poncho, rescue foil and just various blankets and towels.😉 🇩🇪 (Original) Danke für dein Video, dein Grundaufbau kommt dem Ideal sehr nahe.
Gonna try this tomorrow. Thank you
This is absolute genius, I have just set this up in my field using an old 3m x 3m DD tarp and some extending poles and it is fantastic, I am going to order a 4m x 4m DD tarp as I am old and would love a little more room. Liked and subscribed.
Fantastic!
why do you sleep in separate tents?
Naomi was training to sleep on her own. As part of her cross country walk. Plus those tents are tiny!
I wore a super thin sun hoodie for walking the tour du Mont Blanc. It was high twenties at the start and mid thirties when I finished. Kept the sun off my neck head and arms and dried super quickly. Would definitely recommend one for you.
This is my favorite setup, too. Works with square or rectangular tarps, and you can leave it open or seal it up tight!
I've used a tarp quite a bit, but I've not seen this set up. It looks really easy and there's so much room. I think it's one of those "why didn't I know about this earlier" set ups. Many thanks.
great video, nicely shot and great explanations.....deserves far more views mate, keep up the great content ✌🏻
Yes I remember the amazing sky in the morning, I was approaching the north end of Salisbuey Plain, I was late because my bike got a puncture, had to repair at the side of the road with numb fingers. Anyway I thought the purpose was to see the high point of the sun at mid day, but the stewards were trying to get people to leave, including the drumming hippies who were on the stones. The point of it is to mark the fact that the sun is now higher at mid day than before, right? The stewards seemed baffled, but I am convinced!
Nice effort with the overheads...very effective for tarp videos
