Zildjian Z Custom Cymbals Demo & Review (NEW FOR 2024)

Zildjian recently reintroduced the Z Custom cymbals to their lineup. These were some of the brand’s most popular cymbals in the early 2000s. They went out of production for a while, but Zildjian has brought them back with some refreshed sounds and features.
In this review, I test out some of the options in the modern Z Custom line, including the 14" Zildjian Z Custom Hi Hats, 17" and 19" Z Custom Crashes, and the powerful 21" Z Custom Mega Bell Ride.
I'm super impressed with these cymbals. They are bright and powerful, making them the perfect option for heavy drummers. I also think the hi hats and crashes are versatile enough to be used in a wide range of modern music styles too.

What do you mean about Schlagwerk Urban Cajo
All of the Schlagwerk cajons are nice, they record well too, just feel they're rather expensive but I like them!
I think audix are the most consistent and reliable mics out in the market. You can put these mics on any kit and it will sound great. Always a consistent sound that’s great

gideon, youve had this kit for awhile now, no? hows the build quality? anything break? are you getting tired of some of the sounds?
Hi Bruce, yes I've had it for a few months now! Build quality is great, I've had no issues whatsoever. I'm also experimenting more with creating new preset kits by adjusting more parameters like dampening, ambience, swapping out kit components etc.
one question: does the sound change from the Meinl Classics Custom Dark China to the Meinl Classics Custom China?
The Dark model has a darker and slightly more 'earthy' tone compared to the standard Classics Custom china which has a brilliant finish and sounds brighter.

Haven't owned a kit since I left Japan about 15 years ago. It was a little TD-4 back then.. Moving back to Japan. New kit time.
They sound MUCH better than the originals. Seem to be a lot more versatile!

Have you looked at Kopf Percussion of Waycross, GA? I have their Kopf S-Series DeUno Snare Cajon. I absolutely LOVE it. Their craftmanship delivers a beautiful, deep, and warm tones with a fantastic response. They are hand made with everything from solid 3/4" birch to whatever woods YOU want! I love my Kopf so much that I ordered 2 more, including their PB American Tonewood BASS Cajon. Get rid of that $100 "box" and get yourself a REAL instrument. You will NOT be disappointed. Keep Drumming!

In any case, what I cannot recommend is the Pro1-V from Trick. Although the machine was always checked before the gigs, I had two cases during the concert. I had to replace it during the gigs.

I have trick dominators, best pedals i have ever owned or played. Also once you go direct drive you never want to go back to chain drive.

Hey there, thanks for your question! I'd probably say the Tama Speed Cobras and the DW 9000s required the most power/ had most resistence. I think the Trick pedals are your best bet. Hello, I have a question, there is a delay, how can I solve it?
With your Alesis Strata Prime? That seems strange. Might be worth reaching out to Alesis - I know they all have a 1 year warranty and can offer support.
When I setup my DW5000's to play double bass, I noticed the triplets or faster on the kick did not trigger all the hits, did you have to update the settings to get it to work properly?
Yes I sometimes noticed that too. I think that's just the nature of what you can expect at this price point, it's not always going to be perfect. Try adjusting the position of where the beaters hit the pad to make them both as central as possible!

Both are solid options, I think the Venus is the only one of the two that includes everything in one package. It's a little more affordable too. I'd go for the Venus!

Yes you can. It might take some adjustment but I managed to get a double pedal working on this kit

Thanks for this! Impressive. I'm happy to see the great state of Texas so well represented. Clearly TX and NY dominate the drum kit naming battle!! The versatility of this kit is so great. Frankly, they all sound pretty good to me, but what do I know? Well, what I do know is that in my case it isn't the drumkit that's the limitation, it's my abilities. Percussion instruments are quickly becoming obsolete if not extinct. We are quickly getting to the point where there is no reason not to go E-kit. I wonder how much of the kit price is due to the libraries. Perhaps, if they could produce an offering with fewer kit sounds at a lower price, it would be even more popular. This kit represents a leap-frog in technology. Thanks again! Great playing!
Hey, thanks for the nice comment! The kit price is down to the quality of the components and largely the module (which is essentially a computer running the software with all the drum sounds). I personally think the price is fair considering everything you get with this kit, and how it performs! But there are cheaper Alesis lines too.
@@GideonWaxman Do you know what the warranty is on this product? I saw a post that said the E-Drums as a whole are not that reliable and they last about a year. I'm having a hard time believing that a $3500 kit will only last a year. I can see how the sensors could have issues if one beats the heck out of them, but I would think overall these products should last a long time.

Wow Zultans sound amazing! I was interested in the zildjan s dark series for the right and high hat, but the crash cymbals were a huge turn off. This opened up my possibilities!
Zultans are incredible cymbals for the price! Definitely the best value cymbals available. They have a great selection of different sounding lines too.
I’ve been posting this question on just about every review. Maybe I missed it in someone’s video but can someone PLEASE tell me can you assign effect symbol sounds splash or crash sounds to the rims of these drums or can you only make them have rim clicks or cross stick sounds???Thank you.

Thank you so much for replying. I thought it would be cool to be able to do that because moving to this from my acoustic kit, I will be losing a lot of my effect symbols. I thought it would be a way to get back and have a similar set up plus you wouldn’t have to worry about physically placing them everywhere you could just tap the rim, oh well, not a dealbreaker though thank you again
@@johnfrith7884 No worries! I remember some of the preset kits used the middle rack tom as an auxiliary pair of hi hats too.
My problem with the tricks is you have to absolutely get it 100% Dial in or you're gonna have a hard time getting use to it and can be a nightmare it took me 2 almost 3 months to get it dialed in and use to it besides that its a good pedal would i recommend them tbh no i wouldn't just for the fact it has very little feel in the playing but are great for guys in extreme metal bands that need to Cruise through songs

Hi Andy, thanks for your comment! To be honest I think you might have a struggle playing this comfortably due to your height. I'd suggest going to a music store and trying some out!
