Yeah I didnt play it as much as you but I still played a bunch. Whoever made this game knew what he was doing. You can count the vertices on the polygons but it still looks amazing despite the technical limitations of the time. And then there's the gameplay, the game modes, the cars, the tiny bit of history, the locations (funnily enough you drive a German brand of cars in France for the most part).

No, PS1 High Stakes physics are better of all, Porsche Unleashed have awful V-Rally 2 physics which doesn't fit to a street racing game.

I installed it using the script in PlayOnLinux. I was getting some random crashes by using different wine versions, including the system wine, in Lutris and I couldnt figure out how to fix it. I never got any sound problems though. The source code for the script of PlayOnLinux says you need XAudio2_4 DLL at line 51 - www.playonlinux.com/en/app-665-Secret_of_Monkey_Island_Special_Edition.html I guess that's gonna fix things. I also found out that FAudio is an XAudio reimplementation. There is also something similar for Monkey Island Special Edition Collection and there they say to change the audio driver to ALSA from PulseAudio at line 49 - www.playonlinux.com/en/app-2750-Monkey_Island_Special_Edition_Collection.html I havent tried it since, with the newer wine versions. Good luck and feel free to share, if it works.

Maybe 1 day but I'm not too enthusiastic about it. I wonder if you get used to the different handling over time cuz based on my impressions of the game you can't break your car down. If that's correct, you can use the damaged car until you need sth more powerful. I only did this out of curiosity, cuz some of the upgrades change the exterior look of your car.

Hello, yeah the game should run on ubuntu fine. You may need to get the correct version of your video card driver, if you don't get enough frames for example. I'm not familiar with laptops, so you're going to have to research which version you need. You don't have to use proton. I don't use proton outside of steam because I've had no need for it, so I don't know about any specifics but if you want to use proton, you can try a couple of things: - add the game to steam as a non-steam game, it may work even though it's on steam, that way you can use proton through steam - use another program (for example lutris) to launch the game and see if you can add and use proton there instead of wine (you can use steam to download a proton version - it's in .../steamapp/common/ and then move it around, if you want to or there may be other places where you can get proton); through lutris you can download custom wine versions to try and see if the game runs properly - if you're really determined to use proton, search for LinuxBits - SteamPlay/Proton Full Tutorial on youtube, the channel name is LinuxBits and he's basically talking about how to use proton in the terminal but maybe you can use some of that info to your advantage I'm not sure but I think that if you use proton outside of steam, some stuff may still not work properly because you'll be missing the automated proton bottle created by steam which sometimes has additional necessary stuff installed in it. That's because I think that the scripts telling proton what to install inside of a bottle are not kept in the proton folder, but you can install every additional thing manually. The problem is, you have to know what to install.

@@un57 Brother I am into another issue. I can't find drivers for the GPU that my Laptop has. The GPU is supported by Nvidia, and the GPU driver versions are shown on "Additional Driver" application. I tried downloading the driver, it is showing me errors. My internet connection and speed is excellent. I don't know what is the issue. I have even watched many tutorials, non worked. Maybe the problem is Nvidia is not Open-sorce. edit: My GPU: Nvidia MX130.

@@imop285 No problem. Search on the internet about your problem - just copy/paste whatever it tells you and see if you can find solutions. If you use the terminal there's gonna be a lot of text but usually the last several lines are most important. Search for Installing Nvidia driver on Ubuntu 22.04 by Abstract programmer on youtube. That should be good enough. It's possible that you messed something up by doing all sorts of different things. Ubuntu has a forum. They should be able to help you. Don't forget to restart the machine after you install a driver to make it use the newly installed driver. Also, don´t get hung up on the video driver. Try running the game for a while to see how it goes.

get the game files, apply the modern patch, turn off SingleProcAffinity in the nfs4.ini file so that it wont use only 1 cpu core/thread, you can use the system wine or a custom wine version, disable DXVK and ESYNC if you have them on in lutris or some other wine bottles manager program btw this first playthrough uses nglide if I remember correctly and some other patches were installed as well but I dont know what exactly was installed cuz that's how I got it (everything was already applied). You can see from time to time in certain sections of a map I'm losing frames whereas in my second playthrough with the modern patch that doesnt happen.

You could've just looked up the solution to that 1 puzzle or tried to solve it. It's part of the game.

@@un57 Oh no. I did play it. It's just that particular puzzle was different than the rest of the game. I meant to say that I didn't want to replay the game just to listen to the commentary. Yeah, that's what I think as well but it was nowhere near me to even imagine it could come ahead of me. It probably got out of bounds, but still why would that cause a glitch in the placement display is a mystery, cuz the game properly recognized I was actually first at the end. From what I remember, nothing like that had happened in the race until this moment, so that's why I cut it there - I thought the yellow car was the cause.

@@un57 I have played this game for more than 10 years, when I play that map (backwards ver) this rarely occurred. That shortcut glitch pos always existed, as long as you're in the shortcut it places you to be 1st. And then there's this extremely rare glitch where your opponent could get stuck in that shortcut and just never got out. Your opponent got stuck on the ground, cannot reset itself and doesn't have collision. Pretty fascinating

@@raphaelwijaya4928 Yeah I noticed several times when I was in the shortcut I got my placement changed to whatever was ahead of other AI cars which had taken the road even though it was clear that I was behind them. I didnt know they can get stuck somewhere out there on the shortcut path. I also didnt know they cant reset themselves but it makes sense since you cant see the yellow guy for the rest of the race :D You'd think he fell behind too much but if he had reset himself, he would've been somewhat close to the pack

@@un57 another fun fact, when I finish the race, the bot who got stuck actually finished. He rubberbanded so hard that he finished in a whopping time of 1 hour and 40 minutes (it was 8 laps)

I used a custom wine version from those you can download via lutris (I dont know which version it was but most should work), dxvk, a virtual desktop environment, no esync and maybe gamemode as well (not sure about this one too). If I remember correctly, using dxvk and a virtual environment was necessary.

Yes, this is from the factory career. You can tell by the names of the racers. They dont use these names for the evolution racers.

hahaha yeah I guess she is, but Tex's place is with Chelsee, unless you like your Tex to be different... then again Chelsee is a lot more present in the previous games - you get to see her and talk to her in every chapter

@@un57 Yeah, I was pretty bummed that choosing the 'right' path going for Chelsee the whole time had less content and less interesting things going on than the Taylor + Ariel paths and other things that could be done - kind of weird to do it that way, should be more rewarding to have done it. now I'm just like "eh, should have played the Taylor path or just not cared to go for Chelsee because it's just not matter to the game", but, it wasn't fun enough to replay - kind of mediocre

@@zerpblerd5966 Yeah well it goes hand in hand with how the main character feels. He hasnt seen her for years. He doesnt even know for sure if she's alive or not. The reward is actually seeing her. I guess there's the Chelsee room but people are also left in the dark about what Tex was doing during those "lost" years. The Taylor and Ariel paths answer that at least to some extent. Maybe you were more interested in that.

@@un57 yea like bot racers drive to the walls, certain wall have no hitboxes, cops teleport in front of you, even there's certain occasion where the bot driver is just stuck on the road, I have no idea how I did it but I guess I was too obsessed with this game back then

No, I dont use Windows 10. I think they apply a patch and then use nGlide but there may be something else as well. I remember I mistakenly bound 2 of my camera views to the same button at the beginning of my playthrough, so that was causing it to crash whenever I would switch cameras. I guess that's not the issue here but I'm just making sure you know about this. I was switching my resolution after every race but that didnt always work. I remember also that towards the end of my evolution career on part 11 I found out that sometimes it's trying to load the wrong map. On the main screen it always gives you a specific list of maps for the selected tournament. If you enter in the race info menu you'll see which map it's going to load under info and you can manually change that if it's not the one that it's supposed to load based on the order of maps from the previous screen. Sometimes it tries to load maps which arent present in the current tournament but in another one. I think you're not supposed to start 2 different tournaments at once, so it crashes. Factory career crashes a lot as well and even if my theory is correct, there's no way to change the map or even find out which map it should load next, as far as I remember, so you just have to keep trying until it works and/or wait for someone more knowledgeable to fix it. Maybe you can try a different version of the game, if you can find any somewhere, although I dont think that's the problem.

There is a lot of tutorials with patches to make the game works on Windows 10.

No mods were used. There's a text file the game's folder that says that it's version 3.2 but I dont know how legit it is. I know the last one is 3.5 and if that's correct, then that may be why., although I dont think that's the case here. I guess the AI modded itself this time around :D
