Beautiful. Superb interpretation of Brahms with all the richness and tension in the first movement, beautiful melodies and passion of the second. Excellent all around. Clean with energy and commitment.

Coming back to listen to this again and struck anew by the excellence of this performance. In every place where a performer is exposed, the tone sings. In so many other performances the first violin lines in the third movement sound thready and anemic. Not here. All four are wonderful players and they're so strong as an ensemble.

Approaching the end of the first movement (say 7:30), you should listen to the cello when it starts that fatal rhythm that will conclude the piece. Well done madam!

Sin duda uno de los grandes cuartetos para cuerdas de nuestros días. Genial en la interpretación de este gran cuarteto de Schumann.

Opera densa e complessa, nella quale Brahms guarda a Haydn e Mozart attraverso lenti che, in modo sorprendente, giocano con il linguaggio classico, lo reinterpretano, talvolta lo distorcono e lo forzano. Una scrittura moderna e non così facile all'ascolto, nella quale Brahms esibisce una sorta di neoclassicismo ante litteram. Esecuzione magnifica da parte di queste bravissime musiciste.

Love this quiet moment 11:23. This is my favorite Brahms quartet, not sure whether because it was the first of his I heard or because it fit my mood in 1975. Heard it dozens of times that year, heard countless quartets since. If there's a better one, I'd like to hear about it. Recently I heard Mozart's No. 14. Unsure whether it was Haydn or Mozart, I said to myself: whoever wrote this is the greatest composer. Would have to hear both quartets again to ascertain whether this Brahms is indeed superior to all others ever written, or whether nostalgia plays a role.

The set of the three string quartets op. 41 by Schumann shows us how this Romantic genius had to "reinvent" the genre after the insuperable masterworks by Beethoven, and the romantic impulse given by Schubert<; The whole set deserves the utmost attention. Personally, this first one is my preferred one. The GoYa quartet is ... more than excellent here. 💜💜💜💜💜

Just a matter of curiosity: can we know where the surname "GoYa" (with its surprising spelling) come from? 🌹🌹🌹

To be honest, the architecture of this string quartet is not fully convincing when one attempts to catch it, considering that Schumann obviously makes use of "standard" forms. . Schumann was not "at home" with the discipline of sonata form. But his inspiration turned him either towards fragmented contrasting expressions or long lyric achievements. The mysterious alchemy of these trends makes this quartet dully convincing in its original and romantic expression. Impossible not to love it -especially when rendered by the GoYa quartet, who was so wide to "resurrect" the three quartets of Schumann ... among others!!! ❤❤❤🧡🧡💛💛💚🤎💚💛💛🧡🧡❤❤❤

The two fist SQ's, in C and A minor, were more or less dramatic or at least full of the uttermost sadness. This one is in major mode and in a very clear and transparent expression. It begins just like a SQ dialog by HAYDN. Brahms' lovers do not know his quartet enough, and this one is the least known of the three. And however, it exhibits a specific feature of the composer's mood and genius. ❤❤❤
