ABOUT THE ARTISTS
"Why GoYa ?"
In Urdu, the poetic term GoYa embodies the transporting suspension of disbelief that occurs when fantasy becomes so vivid that it briefly merges with reality.
Remember those incredible stories that make you lose track of where you are and what you're doing? Those tales that elevate you to unimaginable heights? That feeling-that is GoYa.
For us musicians, each piece we interpret is a story in itself, and GoYa captures that suspended moment when time momentarily ceases to exist. It's a fleeting instance when we take the listener's hand, guiding them into the unfurling of the musical narrative.
Meet the GoYa Quartet, an international ensemble based in Amsterdam and Brussels. After years of dedicated collaboration, we are thrilled to announce our debut CD, recorded during a live concert on May 18, 2024, at 4:00 PM.
The detailed PROGRAM of our recording will include :
- Imogen Holst's “Phantasy quartet”
- Edward Grieg's 1st quartet in G minor
-“Automn leaves”, Joseph Kosma/Toru Takemitsu
- Claude Debussy's quartet in G minor
We want to invite the audience on a multi-sensory journey through musical and visual landscapes: an exhibition of paintings by the talented Dutch artist Rosa Meertens will be featured during the concert.
Sounds, Visual art, and... Language. As a third component, the poetry and power of words will also be present. Author and nature guide Ruben Jacobs will enhance the event with the music of his own words: a journey to nurture awareness, share insights, and pose poetic & philosophical questions - all crafted to weave a tapestry of contemplation, cultivating consciousness.
THE MOTIVATION BEHIND THIS PROJECT:
Beyond our professional endeavors, we are four individuals navigating the richness and complexity of contemporary society. Through our music, we strive to convey messages of peace, respect, and humanity. However, the profound sadness witnessing the severe decline in global climate often leaves us feeling powerless, as the structure of traditional concerts rarely provides an opportunity to raise awareness amid this climate crisis. Therefore, we are launching a transformative project: during this concert, essential matters will find expression, various art forms will converge to pay homage to Life. This is the occasion for us to give Nature a voice, raise awareness about environmental issues, advocate for gender equality by playing a piece from a female composer, and support emerging talents by providing an opportunity for a young Dutch painter to be discovered by the audience.
