UP & DOWN DAY | BICTON REGIONAL FINAL | Eventing Vlog
Lucy finally managed to get her qualifications for a regional final. These are done through either coming in the top 20% in a section (Kingston Maurward) or two double clears (Launceston & Nunney). This means Lucy now can attend two regional finals in order to try and qualify for Badminton Grassroots Championships at 100 level (1m). The first regional final was this weekend with Bicton. The dressage is held in a 20x60m arena, normal 100 level showjumping and a longer more technical cross country.
The top 20% qualify for Badminton Grassroots Championships.
A lot of hard work has gone on in the background with flatwork and jumping to try and improve everything as much as possible to make sure we are competitive.
Join us as on this day and find out how it goes.

    Standing martingale would be advantageous with this horse for jumping, x country. He lifts his head before every jump, grabbing the bit , then rushing, so he can't see the jump properly. Or continual training to go towards a fence and as soon as he lifts head and rushes you turn away from the jump until he realises what your asking for is calm and no rushing. Maybe a different bit for jumping, copper with a roller and 3 rings . Worth a try with so many bits out there that he may go happier in. Great effort.

    • @theeventingjourney232
      @theeventingjourney232 Před měsícem

      We can’t wear standing martingales eventing. Against tack rules. He needs some training to stay round and in balance. It’s my plan for the next month. Improve the canter and teach him not to flatten on that last two strides. He is a lot better than he used to be so it’s just putting in final polish now. He is 5 and quite a big horse so sometimes takes time.

      Prizes are a bonus when in their first year. Instead it’s about the process and making sure they are confident. They are always learning so sometimes they make mistakes but if you are at right height they can sort it out. I do think we get very scared about them learning on the job. Tim and Jonelle Price write the most wonderful blog in their news section and are so relaxed if their horses have a run out etc just say they have got to learn and then to go back and educate them so understand how to solve the problem next time.

    Barbury is gorgeous. Pity about BE being so pedantic. It was a bit idiotic of them too. All of those people doing unaffiliated are potential future BE members. It's been a while since I had a Horse & Country TV subscription and so I didn't know that this had happened. How awesome to have a facility like that to take youngsters to.

    • @theeventingjourney232
      @theeventingjourney232 Před měsícem

      It’s great that Musketeer events run it as a very good organiser. I think BE has shot themselves in the foot with a few decisions and cannot back track. Won’t impact novice + but the Cotswold cup is very impressive and fills a big hole that BE lacks - no membership fees, a championship in the same year with very good prizes, outstanding locations and inclusive.

  • @user-fg6kg1dn7w
    @user-fg6kg1dn7w Před měsícem

    Clever boy Robbie. He got some good scores in the dressage didn’t he but his tail swishing does detract somewhat, it gives that impression of tensions. He did it lot more at this event than the last (rain last time??) Show jumping. A lot of nose poking out and then rushing at the jumps - and then of course flattening over them. Do you think the jumps were just too small for his scope perhaps and do he lacked a bit of respect? Cross country. Well for a baby he seems pretty fearless doesn’t he. So much tail flashing and nose poking though, must be a bit uncomfortable for you. So I guess the same as the SJ really, he needs a bit more to jump I guess. But Lordy Lordy Lordy what a bloody marvellous development in such a short time considering the weather and the ground in recent months. I suppose to be fair to you both, the things spoken about, had the weather and ground been more generous over the spring then Robbie might have had more work to strengthen his back etc to help him. But he is wonderful and looks great fun for the future. He is so honest isn’t he 👏👏👏

    • @theeventingjourney232
      @theeventingjourney232 Před měsícem

      The tail swishing in the dressage stops if I let him drop off the leg and not stay into the contact. It’s also worse when he isn’t through as of course I irritate him trying to get him in front of the leg. He was more through at Waverton but flat warm up really helped. Jumping I think he needs to learn to sit more in the canter which goes back to staying through in the contact and in front of the leg. It’s one of the things I am going to work very hard on and have some ideas about things. Xc he can go along in that longer flatter canter so it’s a bit better but he needs to learn to have a half halt and sit up. At moment you half halt and not much happens. It’s a strength and education thing. Essentially he has a very big engine and needs to learn to balance it and manage the power. He will be a very different horse next year. Most of mine don’t even manage anything until 6 so down to his good attitude that he is doing pretty well. You won’t see him eventing now for a bit while I start putting in the training to help him move to next stage.
