This is the home of "Gray Hair Hiking!"
I am Pops, an over 65 guy who began hiking in my 60's. I thought it might be fun to have a channel that in part talks to gray haired hikers like myself! I have learned many techniques related to hiking that I think seniors might find helpful. Here you can explore videos of travels I have done, hiking tips, favorite hikes I have done across the country, and videos of interesting places I have visited. This channel is not just about hiking but travel too.
As I live in a remote canyon in Southern California, I will also occasionally post videos of the amazing things I see around me!
Please let me know about your experiences in the comments sections of the videos.

Pretty cool 😎 didn't know this very interesting
So glad you stopped by!
Thank you for sharing this stunningly beautiful and unique spot! The raft is ingenious, the water is unbelievably clear, and the fish look so relaxed. I also appreciate your clear shots of the info signs.😊
So glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing! Yes interested in seeing these types of videos!
Great! I’ll try to do others in the future!
Very enjoyable! Thank you ❤
Thx for watching so glad you liked it!
Very nicely done, enjoyed the walkthrough!
So glad you enjoyed it!
I never knew he had so much artwork. Thanks for sharing that. I will plan to visit.
His work was so diverse too which is remarkable. Yes you should visit if you get an opportunity.
Love it Pops. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Enjoyable Pops! Just the right amount of coverage and time. 👍🏻 Keep’em coming 😊
So glad you liked it! Thx for the encouragement.
Really enjoyed your museum walk-through.
Cool! I’ll do some similar things in the future.
Hi Pops, enjoyed the video a lot. Good job.
I appreciate it and thx for watching!
Hi! This was great! As a senior, shut in, retired artist, I miss the art museums. This was a treat! Thanks. I love your videos! Keep on, please!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thx for stopping by.
Enjoyed the video'
Glad you enjoyed it!
I DID really enjoy this video, Pops! I learned a lot & feasted my eyes on totally new things to me. The only thing I knew before this video, was that the painting, American Gothic, existed. I didn’t even know the artist’s name. Always good to learn - thank you!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Pops! As a resident of Iowa, we thank you for showing the world some of the great things here, most people know Iowa just for Corn. If you like Grant Wood, the house he used for "American Gothic" is in Eldon, Iowa. Try to visit it if you are ever in Southeast Iowa.
I loved it! I've never been to Cedar Rapids and enjoy Grant Wood's work. Didn't know about the windows, stunning and the door clock is awesome!
That would have been fun to visit! Iowa is a beautiful state!
Thanks Pops for the memories. I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids
My first visit there and it was fun!
Did you know that you can visit the American Gothic house in Eldon Iowa? You and Josh can take your wives! They have costumes and will take your picture in front of the house. It’s kind of fun!
Just heard that from another comment! I wish I could have visited there but we were trying to hug the Lincoln Highway. That would be fun!
HELLO POPS OUTSTANDING VIDEO .WHATS AMAZING ABOUT A WOOD PAINTING IS THAT YOU KNOW ITS A WOOD PAINTING.YOUR COMMENT ABOUT THE WOMENS HANDS THE DETAIL THE SHADOWS ON THE HOUSE.A WONDERFUL DETOUR AWAY FROM YOUR USUAL .I LOVED IT LARRY FROM LONG ISLAND
Thanks for watching! I would have given a lot more detail as I dabble in painting myself but wasn’t sure that would be for everyone.
I like the walk through! I'm more about the tourist attractions since I can't really walk too far. Bad back 🫤 the hiking is nice & peaceful though.
I’m so glad you liked it! I really wasn’t sure. Thx for watching!
@@popshiking keep doing what you're doing!
Hi Pops! Thank you so much. Interesting..
Glad you liked it!
I enjoyed this video, Pops!!❤😊
I'm so glad! Thx for watching.
I hope you get/got to see the Grant Woods murals at my Alma mater, Iowa State University ('81). You can learn about them on the ISU website. Did you know that Iowa State (then the Iowa Agricultural College) was the first college established under the Morrill Land Grant Act of 1862? (Useless tidbit for your next trivia night! 😂)
Both are cool tidbits! Thx.
Very interesting!!! I would love to visit one day
I hadn’t been there before and really enjoyed myself. Loved what I learned about Wood!
@@popshiking super cool!!!!
Really liked this Grant Wood tour. But I wish that you had lingered over some of the items or pointed out particular features, as you did with the painting of his mother. Also, I could not understand some of the whispered commentary; maybe speaking in normal voice in post-production editing would be more effective. Otherwise, this interior museum crawl is a nice complement to Josh's outdoor hiking vlogs -- thanks much !!
I really appreciate the constructive comments. Thanks for watching!
Great video! The scenic photo at 1:43 with the fireweed, lake, and mountains in the bright sunshine is spectacular! I rode the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Denali in 1986, and it was just as beautiful. Got to see lots of moose, grizzlies, Dall sheep, and wolves too! Your helicopter flight to the glacier video is one of my all-time favorites...
Thank you for watching and sharing your experiences! Alaska really is a wonderful place.
What a fantastic sight.
@@C-TOS Thx for stopping by!
Excellent share
Thanks for visiting!
This is THE perfect travel video, Pops. The beautiful music, your narration, it is all just wonderful. Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
What a relaxing video, and I agree, what a beautiful little trail! Thank you for the background and readings from Mary Schaffer...it's nice to learn about some of the women who contributed to our history.😊
She was truly remarkable! Thx for viewing!
@@popshiking Follow-up: I was inspired to check a little further on Mary Schaffer. On Wikipedia, it says she was born in West Chester, PA, about an hour away from where I was born and lived most of my life! She and her husband spent summers in the Canadian Rockies and winters in Philly. There is a biography of her, No Ordinary Woman: The Story of Mary Schäffer Warren, by Janice Sanford Beck, for anyone who is interested.
@@Danika_Nadzan thx for sharing that!
Great video. I turned 75 yesterday and I am leaving in few days for Yellowstone (first time). I am a lover of Yosemite (as you are) and really love anything mountains related. I am really not into geothermal stuff that much, so was hoping for some beautiful easy/moderate hikes in the mountains of Yellowstone. My favorite hike of all time is the mist trail to Nevada Falls at Yosemite, but almost toppled off the stairs (no railing) leading up to Vernal Falls a couple of years ago. Not as steady on my feet, even with my hiking sticks, as would like. The Artist point you talked about looks good, hope I can find a few more.
Yes there are lots of other options besides the geothermal ones. Artist point for sure. Yeah those steps by the falls in Yosemite are a bit dicey! Thx for watching.
HELLO POPS WONDERFUL VIDEO HISTORY IS MY THING IT GETS ME GOING .MT.RUSHMORE A MASTERPIECE CHOICE OF PRESIDENTS BRILLIANT. REMEMBER OUT OF ALL OF THE CHOICES ROOSEVELT WAS THE TOUGHEST TAKING ON J.P. MORGAN OR ELSE HE WOULD HAVE OWNED THE COUNTRY THE OTHERS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. ONE MORE THING ROOSEVELT WAS A NATURALIST. THANK YOU LARRY
Those are great insights. Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
One of the few places you've been that I've been to as well! I visited Alaska in 1986 (can't believe that's almost 40 years ago!) and took a day trip to Homer. I still remember some of the spots you include here. And of course, the mountains are still as stunning as ever. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
So glad it brought back a few of your favorite memories! I’m with you on 1986. Seems like yesterday!
Nicely done, Pops! Very relaxing, beautiful scenery, informative narration. And "precariously growing trees" to boot...that one with the root reaching across was awesome! I just heard about your channel, and I'm impressed! 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Thx for stopping by.
What a hoot! You are an adventurer after my own heart...I once did an RV trip through a bunch of small towns in Wisconsin and got to see the Mustard Museum in Middleton among other unusual stuff (a town with big carved trolls, a monster-sized mouse and cheese, etc.). Not as flashy as the Spam Museum, but still fun to see. The Poupon U. gear was pretty hysterical...they're serious about their mustard in Middleton!😂😂
That’s hilarious!! There are so many crazy spots like that. I use the Atlas Obscura app as it shows you many of them.
@@popshiking I don't know if Atlas Obscura was even around back then (late 80's early 90s...I'm as old as you!😁) I visited another place on that RV trip that you and Josh (and kids) would probably love, if you haven't already been: House on the Rock near Dodgeville, WI. It was unbelievable back then, and now they've got a whole resort there. So many quirky places to see!!
Great video! While watching it, it felt like I was visiting Mt. Rushmore myself! Thank you so much for sharing it!
I’m so glad! Thank you for watching!
I enjoyed seeing the Monument from so many angles and appreciate the tips!
I appreciate you stopping by!
Ahhh! Mount Rushmore! We first visited summer 2023 and we loved it so much that we decided to go again this summer. The only difference is that this year we actually did the evening program and it didn't disappoint 😊 I highly recommend it. Kids can do a ranger program and get their badges as well.
I bet the evening program would be really fun! I wish I’d done the ranger program when our kids were younger.
Great video, Pops!!! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
Mt Rushmore is much bigger than I expected and yes the road up there gives you beautiful shot of it from various angles. It looms large over the drive in a very impressive way.
So true. Thanks for stopping by!
Love that the visitor center has references to the movie North By Northwest
Yeah that was a cool film!
Wow! That one was interesting. Added Keyes Ranch to my bucket list!
It really was. He was quite a guy and his wife was pretty amazing!
😊thank you!!😊
Hope it helps!
Love all your burro pics behind you! Where's your Oatman, AZ video? Lol
Hahaha! Where I live I drive past them every day and decided to paint them. Yeah Oatman is a fun place.
@popshiking Are those all paintings?! Wow! Very good job.
Roosevelt had to be included, but it does stick out if you aren't aware of why! In addition to the tunnel views and actual visit I was blessed to view the monument from a hot air balloon flying over Black Hills!
Wow now that is really cool!!!
It was so cool to find those tunnels on the way in!
They were a surprise.
@@popshiking Very nice!
I loved all the boardwalks that allowed for different viewpoints. Also, I enjoyed the studio where you could get an idea of what it orginally was supposed to look like
Yeah it is a fun place to visit and the boardwalk trail is not too difficult.
It's really cool to be there at dusk when the faces are illuminated by floodlights. A much different experience than in daytime. Being there for both is even better.
That’s cool! I didn’t know about that.
We've been to Mount Rushmore twice in the last 6 years. We love that area so much😊!!!
That’s cool! This was my first time.
Peaceful. Thanks for giving us a calming moment in our day 😊
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Pops! Me and my family talked about including this in our travels. Thank uuu for laying out the groundwork. Enjoy your Sunday. We appreciate you and Josh
I think it is totally worth the stop. Such an iconic US spot.
