Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my German grandparents. I feel that productivity was a big value to them and it got passed down to me. But I suffer with productivity anxiety, not just at work, but at home, when doing chores or even when I'm doing things I love. It's preventing me from being able to enjoy life fully. I relate a LOT with what you say here. Now that we are aware that we have to deal with this, I know we can work on it to take better care of ourselves and give us the love and encouragement to not always be productive.

Fascinating video. I wonder how training the quiet eye would impact the outcome of tennis players. I immediately thought of Federer, who is notorious for keeping his head steady for a longer time at contact point when hitting the ball.
This is exactly why I clicked on the video! I'm a tennis player, and lose the ball at contact sometimes. Federer was the master at watching the ball far past it left his strings

What a skeet shooter focus on?
This is me for the last 25 years. I hate going to bed b3cause I hate getting up. I used to eat until I fell asleep, now I watch movies or CZcams until my body can’t stay awake. All of life is stressful, work and home. Typically go to bed at 8PM but am up until 2 or 3 AM, then get up at 5.
It is working, I can feel that I accomplish something very badly that I had to do daily.

I have the Flow Lab app but I’m disappointed that there’s been no updates or fresh content for a very long time, years I think. The app is costly and is coming up for renewal but I’m reluctant to subscribe again if there’s going to be no new content. Have you disbanded the app now? I've been going through this for a few months now, and I can't tell you what it's cost me, both personally and professionally. Every morning I promise myself that this will be the last day that I deprive myself of sleep and that I will go to bed early tonight, but when the night comes, I fail again. This has greatly damaged my self-confidence and I feel useless and unsuccessful, but now I have learned that there is a name for it. So I hope there are some techniques to overcome it. I hope I will succeed, because it is eating me up.

There is eye training for dislexa and FPS games. You need to search "eye training fps game" and there is some videos. You can put it on 1.5× or even more if there is not sufficiently fast.
Damn. How insightful. For what its worth - i started eye training with dots and physical movements about a year ago. The difference in my fps playing is drastic. Went from a really bad leeroy jenkins 0.19 k/d filled with inconsistentency to a 1.5+ kd that has me comfortably popping out 2-7 kill games consistently while still playing the Leeroy Jenkins game. Much of it comes down to when i die, i can feel myself losing visual focus in real time. Its kinda funny how you become aware of it. Anyway ill download the app. Sounds like thats what ive been working on.

The norm I am transgressing is the norm to show enthusiasm and interest in others and to make small talk. I'm a fairly unhappy person and I hate small talk. I regret the embarrassment from the awkwardness that is my punishment for failing to do it, but I'm also at other times unapologetic about taking no interest in small talk skills.

Kudos to you for making this commitment and following through with it. It seems it took your creativity to another level. Maybe cultivating your relationships with people in person and getting out into nature more often? Experiencing something like this for a week could really open your awareness. Possibly now you may have more intentional focus of how you feel and what you choose to occupy your time with more meaningful activities. I do have a You Tube addiction. So, perhaps its time for me to implement some balance in that area of my life. Thank you for sharing your journey through this time. I admire the commitment and your expression to your self and your audience.
I just had a different perspective here. Was most of the Dopamine fast based on fasting from "media" . I wonder if a person would feel a different type of Dopamine if they increased the "creative arts" ? Those things that evoke your own creativity.Those things that get life flowing though you. Creating music, dancing, drawing, gardening, sewing are a few I was thinking about. Would those types of things effect the type of Dopamine or the receptors of the Dopamine?
Watching this before doing a week long fast myself. Going to try to remember to come back here in a week and document my findings to see how similar or different they are compared to yours. I've previously done 2 and 3 days at a time but I want to push for a whole week and see if there's a real difference.

This hit too close too home... I'm really bad (or good, depends on how you view it) at daydreaming. I make up these scenarios in my head and things rarely go according to plan. My plan. And the reasonable voice in my head knows that this is gonna be a disaster, but my emotional voice doesn't seem to listen. Thank you for posting this and reminding me that focusing on the present and the process will help me in the long run.

All good points however exercise can be a form of productive procrastination so burpees don’t necessarily reset dopamine as suggested.
