New Riders of the Purple Sage - Up Against the Wall Redneck (Live)
Saw them countless times at The Calderone Theater in Hempstead , N.Y. Great evenings.
Jerry probably never knew that his guitar was hardly audible. haha
I do not listen to this type of music..... But these guy's groove! I had all their Albums once ( stolen)
David Nelson the only one still alive in this video RIP to the rest of this great band….
No doubt, the most under rated and mega talented country rock band that ever existed. Damn shame they were lightyears ahead of their time and never received the glory due to them. 👊
My heavy metal & psychedelic ass in the 90's found their records, then would just trip out on them. Haven't heard of them since till now! They r wayyyy underated, if I can listen to em, n I don't listen to that music, that says they could've been more mainstream with right push. But they didn't grease the right crooked palms I guess? Lol. They didn't sell out I assume
is this a song or a mini documentary?
When it’s too hot to speak, thank the Lord I can still listen to Marmaduke’s mellifluous voice
🙏
I ain’t lying
I had the amazing pleasure of playing with Buddy Cage in NYC in a band called the Greasy Boys and I learned so much about playing Country!!!!!!
My dad was there working for Alembic and the dead. Would have been his 3rd year. I learned so much from him.
❤
Jeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyy! NRPS forever!
For the first St. Louis Fox show anyway, this was the lineup second time around except Battin.
Spencer Dryden on drums, Buddy Cage on steel, Skip Battin on bass, David Nelson and Marmaduke! I saw this lineup with the Dead around this time, but I think Dave Torbert was still on bass at the time, and Garcia played steel.
They were one of my favorite bands, my husband loves them too, NRPS were one of my favorite bands in the early 70’s, my friends loved them and we played their albums constantly, right along with the Dead. Huge fan, I only saw them live once in 1974. But it was well worth taking the good ole midnight flights from LA to San Francisco for $14, my cousins invited me to come up and go to A Day On The Green!!
Tugs at my heartstrings somehow...
Less than 3 years after this date I saw The Dead with NRPS backing them up. Nice to see Garcia on the peddle steel. The bummer of this though is what went down at Kent State the day after this performance.
John Dawson is the real talent in this band, no doubt. Where is he now in ‘24 ? Amazing Skip Battin went from the Byrds or was it the airplane along with Spencer the drummer from airplane to riders.. Makes sense to me… gliding on the astro plane ! Going where no music has gone before !
At their apex around 1974, saw them several times opening for Dead, BUddy Cage incredible pedal steel player
Sadly, they're all gone but David. Miss ya Marmaduke!
❤
I always liked that song in their live sets, especially in 73 and 74. LA Cowboy is another one of their unsung heroes in their set around that time. I saw them in NYC at the Academy of Music on East 14th Street a few times, at college concerts a few times, in a huge Central Park concert. I recall Susan Collins singing back up that day and on studio recordings from that time. I knew her from the old neighborhood in Brooklyn.
The great Skip Battin on bass. What an immensely talented individual.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA I can't remember from another video about when I saw your comment. Cause I had to hear what people were saying I had to laugh That's not talent kid i'm sorry that's just not That's about as basic of basic as you can get And I know you're gonna go to my channel. It's new when and fortunately a small girl took out my stuff all of it. The recorder foot paddles Active e q But then again I remember that most comical thing in my history in career. I'm playing just before idiot o d Any news country based guitar player without? He was the best guitar player in the whole two state area No, come to give Kim credit work. Credit's given the guy had the national country. Voice any playing a box guitar? Pretty well for country it was what you would expect Same thing for support of the base player who. Was about to find out that he bragged way too soon. Especially when he was given chance. Just hear me play but stuck nose up Did you knock on my door when day's savings moving across the street? You don't mind if make a little noise. Do you have any house for me party I told him I did not mind if he didn't mind if I made a little noise myself. You got to listen to me polite 43 straight hours Now, this is just before we sign with medal blade records. Frank turkiye five eighty milligram methodoles and keeled over dead I played both of our albums in completion Threw in a little bit of extra cover tunes just to irritate the situation Mudvayne dig Couple of slipknot tunes Some face warning Metal church merciless onslaught Is it a road a big fatty and setback and watch it all begin After a minute or 2 of them start and clean up and everybody was you know, just kind of going throwing away. I hear it. Hey, joey I thought you said you were the best bass player in both south carolina and georgia Can you pride with yeah so what about it And all he said was well don't sound like it now now does it Because when you're chasing a guitar player who's fingers moves so fast that you can't see them. It's like watching lightning strike A huge screaming note for note You tend to play exactly like you're guitar player There's no talent in country music
OMG this is great..!!! Dig up Lonesome LA Cowboy from this show... and be a CZcams H E R O ...!!!!
In homage to Marty Mull.
@@jmebkk and Barneys Beanery too..

Reminds me of the best days Austin Texas ..crushing listening to NRPS
I miss the days of of good music ❤✌️
Long live rock and roll Don't break that golden rule Summer is here Your outta school Don't break the golden rule
They were a lot of fun...
I work with Buddy cage in the late 60s Goosebay Labrador, American USA Air Force Base just a great guy and a great player RIP
Why is it so quiet?
$25 a lid, totally blew up your lungs, made your eyes bloodshot AF, and tasted like hash!!! Yup!!!
Saw many GR8 NRPS shows '70-'73 with Jerry and later Buddy on pedal steel + shows they opened for the Dead. Cherished memories of them all!❤
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
😎✌ Thank you gentlemen. Brings back grand memories from back in the day.
Oh Buddy Cage your playin’ satisfies even better than ole Panama could with bent notes that linger in my mind like it’s happening right now! Truly mind bottling!!!
I was at that show.
Panama Red always makes me think of the pool scene from Meet The Parents
My 18th birthday would not have been the same without ole Red!
I loved it when Red was in town..back in the day
On his white horse Mescalito...?
That blue was better.
Acapulco Gold was always a close second to the real Rojo... "No stems, no seeds, that you don't need... Acapulco Gold is...mmm, badass weed"!!!
@@RiverRat_1977 blue was the best.
I wish i had some beans.
Very very nice!!!!! 😊
I might have been at that concert. It was suppose to be a double bill with Kingfish. Kingfish didn't show so the NRPS did a double set.
✌🏽
The... Thee only blues brothers of The Dead!! 🤠
Groovy man!!
You guys need to come to Illinois or St Louis
It's been like 20 years since I heard this, but I still remember all the words
The 1st time seeing New Riders was at this venue....in '75. Sounds great.
Far out!!!❤😊
I ❤️NRPS release this on vinyl for record store day!
